Almost a year later and I'm sure absolutely nothing will ever top the feeling of this. I slumped back in my seat and resigned myself to losing. The double save had us celebrating like we'd scored.... Then from utter despair to being at the bottom of a pile of my screaming friends 20 seconds later. Losing the playoff final just doesn't even register any more, but this still puts a lump in my throat. And lets be fair to Leicester, they're smashing it this year and certainly going up so it didn't do them any harm in the long run.
As a Madrid fan, i must say I fainted with Ramos’ goal in the CL final (header at min 93)... it ended by going to overtime and winning the 10th CL. THIS, however, is how KARMA in football would be screenplayed in Hollywood. Imagine if this was a World Cup or a Chanpions League goal in the final. The world would stop. The scorer would get a statue. And the sun would hear our shouts.
That header pass back to Deeney was brilliant, he could've scored that himself but saw Deeney coming in a way more comfortable position to smash it. Really a wonderful team play
Fair comment. I like both teams but to be fair that was NEVER a penalty. Still, the ref's mistake allowed us to witness a thrilling finish of that game.
The game carried on till the seventh minute because added time in football is 'minimum added time', which means the referee shouldn't stop the game in less than four minutes. If the referee feels however that more time was wasted in play, he can extend it beyond the MINIMUM added time :) And yeah, this was truly amazing. It's the kind of stuff dreams are made of :)
There was an injury in the beginning of the added time the game stopped for 3-4 minutes. There is a video on youtube where you can watch the full game. That was the reason why the match ended just in the 97th minute. When i saw this video first time i didn't understand too why they played still in the 97th minute. But there was a reason of it so it was absolute fair decision by the refree.
Not gonna lie I’m a Liverpool fan but that was sick and it wasn’t even a Premier League match, FA Cup, EFL Cup or the Champions League! This was a Football League Championship playoff semifinal to see who goes to the playoff final itself with a chance to become the 3rd team in that 2nd tier league to play in the premier league the following season. I mean you can’t write a better script in a 2nd tier English League. Similarly how Man city got the last Kick in 2012 to beat QPR to win the Premier League from Their Rivals Manchester United! That’s just the beautiful game we love
Props to number 27 as well, who managed to clear the ball nearly to midfield, sparking the final drive. The same player called for the penalty moments earlier.
Knockaert takes Almunia saves Knockaert follows in Almunia saves again Absolutely astonishing! Now here come Watford Forestieri Here's Hogg! DeeneeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEeeeee!!!
Could someone please tell me why they where still playing at minute 96?? I thought the added time was 4 min so it should have ended perhaps even before the penalty, right?? I dont know much about football and didnt watch this match live, so sorry if its a dumb question. :) btw this was amazing.
Needles to say, Leicester would have the last laugh! This was in 2013 and they won the Premier League in 2016. First team not named Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City, or Chelsea to win since 1995.
bruh those 2 saves gotta go down in history as the best saves ever.... like really think about it.... he saved the pk with his foot..... to get back up and fuckin save the rebound with your shoulder/face (couldn't really tell) man just fuckin incredible
It may be the only game on earth where a nil-nil draw is a regularity, rarely are more than 4 goals scored a game, but this sums up why football is the best and most popular game on earth. From despair to jubilation in a heart beat.
Could not happen to more nice person and true gentleman as Zola. Dont care that he did not turn out to be some star level manager, he was great for us{Chelsea} as a player. Just stumble on this video, wow what a game that was eh, though seeing Watford and the Foxes fighting for promotion is kind of weird haha.
Everybody looks so happy. I wish I knew what was going on. They were already winning 2 to 1 and then they scored. I can understand happy , but this place went insane. What am I missing?
Watford can’t score at the away match on Leicester home(they lost 1-0),and Leicester scored one at their home,so they are gonna lose if the score hold.
this is a promotion playoff semi final. watford lost 1-0 away, which means it being 2-1, (2-2 across both games) leicester win the tiebreaker on away goals. watford save a penalty (certain defeat) and score in the last minute to win 3-2 on aggregate score.
The first match was 1-0 for Leicester, this game was 2-1 for Watford, so aggregate was 2-2 after 90 minutes. But in the Championship Playoffs, goals scored away from home won't count extra. The rule is: if the game is draw after both games, there comes extra time.
I dont know if referee was fair letting play to continue after the 2 Almunia's saves. But they could win at that penalty, and the counter attack becomes that in a lose
This is one of the best Football scenes, ever.
You Know Dresden-Leverkusen? If not check it out will worth it

Stephen Hill Another year later and it's still awesome. Great commentary, too.

understood „D-Day“ all the six times I watched it , before I red this comment. 😅 would have fit, too 😁
Still one of the greatest goal sequences I’ve ever watched.
And just 3 years later Leicester becomes a champion! Congrats foxes!
As a leicester supporter I love this!!! It's just amazing. Gutted watford didn't go up that year. Yet they both are now.

The biggest moment in sports history. Im not a fan of the teams, but holy shit. The goosebumps are huge. This is the pure will of a human!

Lmaoooo he didn't even see it coming
one of those situations where it was worth it

This video inspires me every day
Life ALWAYS has a new opportunity for you...
Delighted - love Watford. Hope they come back up to the Prem.
1:53 police man
And then 3 years later, Leicester comes to the Premier league and just wins.
Still wondering who was the lucky bustard that left with Deeney's jersey
The most epic episode in history
To quote Nelson Mandela- "everything is impossible until it's done"
Best paradigm...

Look at 0:06 how Knockaert points with his head to which side is going to shoot the penalty

22 seconds between the penalty kick and the goal on the OPPOSITE end of the field
الكورة مجنون
That wax the slackest double save...
Its a shame that watford didn't get into the premier league
You should have included the non-existing fault which led to the penalty call.
Zola
20 seconds and the world turned different
I dont know if referee was fair letting play to continue after the 2 Almunia's saves. But they could win at that penalty, and the counter attack becomes that in a lose
English futbol at hes best
