Holding permanent residency in Japan means you have the right to live and work in Japan without restriction. As a permanent resident, you're generally considered a resident taxpayer, irrespective of your physical presence in Japan.

I've 80 points in hand, but I'm not paying pension in japan, india-japan has a mutual contract where if you pay pension (PF) in India, you can exclude from paying pension here and I opted for this. So in this case, will I be eligible for PR now?
Good question! As you are not paying pension in Japan that shows you have no intention to live here permanently. You are basically considered as an expat who is here for a few years. That being said, you are not eligible for PR.

The Japanese legal phrasing is intentional because it is a VISA status. It's why some Permanent Visa holders were denied entry into Japan during the pandemic. There are many people who lose Permanent Visa status each year due to crime activity or failing to meet certain legal requirements.

HSP is company specific not business so HSP PR is possible if you are an employee of a company not business owner.

The validity period of VISA can be extended based on your study period. You don't need to get a VISA to complete your study.

There is no skilled PR in Japan. You get job first and then based upon your salary, experience etc you can apply for highly skilled visa.
