  • Last week I shared how to install a "no dig" mailbox. Now I have to remove the old post so we don't confuse the mailman! Here is a quick and easy way to remove a post that is simply driven into the ground. This is especially helpful if you have accessibility issues or are by yourself and cannot just rip that sucker out with your bare hands.
This will not work if the post has been set into concrete or other matter. You will have to exercise other options if that is the case!
I hope that helps and I hope you learned something you can use!

This is going to help a bunch. We have been trying to get it out of the ground this morning with no luck.

Nice video. I had a concrete one in mine and used a car jack to lift it up. I did like you did by screwing a wood block into the old post about 7 inches up. came out slowly but the car jack did the job

Thank you so much for the tips. As a girl who can lift max 40 lbs, this method really works. Removed a stubborn mailbox post using the tips. Super easy!

That's great. I've got one with cement at the bottom, metal post. It has to come out because it was installed to close the my foundation, it caused a crack in my foundation as the years went by, every spring it moved during the thaw. It moves slightly, and eventually cracks the foundation. Previous owner put it in. I know I'll have to dig it out, and fix the crack. Your advice is great, and I was thinking of an old Jack, but you said so at the end. Like your stuff!

Pull the post, then jam a 4x4 back in the ground? Why not just cut off the old Mail post at ground level? Or where you going to later fill with dirt...

Gary Emerick I was just going to fill in the hole but that scrap piece of 4x4 fit perfectly! And sawing off the post at ground level would have been WAAAY harder for me to do.

Gary Emerick Rick has a good tip, of course he would fill it in, not with wood, that rotts.

Ross Munn The wood was, of course, temporary. He filled it properly with dirt after the video.
