I discovered Atarashii Gakko a month ago. I'm 52 and I've been a musician my entire life. I grew up on the foundational bands like CCR, Moody Blues, Beatles, Stones, The Who, etc etc who became famous through their talent. Modern music's emphasis on appealing to the lowest common denominator gets me cranky. AG is the first group I have truly loved in a long, long time. They are talented, creative, and it is a joy watching them have so much fun doing their thing.
I just discovered Atarashii Gakko this week and since I have the luxury of not being a reactor, I have been loosing my mind trying to consume everything I can find from them. They are another group extraordinarily talented and very diverse across their catalog of music. They seem to be a shadowy reflection of an idol group in that they are four girls in school uniforms that sing and dance, but that is where the similarity ends. They do have some poppy songs, jazz based songs, hip hop stuff, rock, you name it and it’s all good. I would be inclined to call them performance artists as much as anything else, but I am a new kid, so I have a lot to learn. One of their newest songs is a hip hop based song called Nainainainai. While this is not my usual style of music this song is insidiously infectious and is one of my current favorites. Love your reactions by the way and hope to see more Atarashii Gakko reactions!
@@gombers i know you have to preserve listening to songs so you can react to them, but I would recommend you listen to Shiritai. It is the polar opposite to this song. It’s just Mizyu (the girl with the twin tails) and piano. It is a song about self discovery through her choices. Makes me think of a haiku where a deeper meaning is expressed in just 17 syllables. Definitely need the lyrics. AKAME is a great channel for lyrics to a lot of their songs.
Great reaction and you will find that this is one of the most creative groups around right now. They're young 19/20, do their own dance, music, scenes, etc. You need to do more. There's one called "50 Questions" if you want to learn more about them.
Big fan. I found out about them when they were picked up by 88rising. They do alll their own choreography, and write many of the lyrics themselves. Most of the lyrics to this song are from kanji aphorisms, like the ones you might have to memorize for a test. : )
Omg, I'm usually here for Day6 but OMG Atarashii Gakkou! THEY'RE MY LONG LOST BRAINCELLS THAT SOMEHOW GREW UP AND BECAME A PERSON. My youuuuuuuuuttttthhhhhh. They're seriously super talented tho. Very good technical dancers too. Their energy is so out there I love it
So glad you were told about them. They are so much fun to watch and listen to. The one in the front in the glasses with no lens is Su....always loved that twitch it fit is so well.
I just discovered Atarashi Gakko no Leaders about 3 weeks ago. I've been binging on them hard. Love this group... I guess they fall under the ALT-idol category. Yeah, their choreo is amazing. From what I gather they do all their own chroeography and considering the oldest in the group, Mizyu (twin-tales girl), is only 22 years old and the rest are 19 is amazing. Suzuka is the front woman, the one with the glasses. From what I've seen she's the primary vocalist as well. I fucking dig her vibe. Very quirky, geeky, awkward yet intensely cool at the same the time, total NO FUCKS GIVEN kinda attitude. All these ladies are amazing dancers and they all have a very unique style even though their doing the same moves. I find have to watch the videos about 4-5 times in row just to take it all in. They just signed with 88RISING recently as well. I'm looking forward to seeing where these ladies go. And call me crazy... but what if Band-Maid and Atarashi Gakko did a collab?
This is one of the best groups, seriously! they seem wacky and weird but they are great, their music is great, their dancing is great, they make their own stuff (choreos, lyrics, performances) by themselves and they are just soo creative and their personalities are soo geniune and funny. The members are : Suzuka (19 yo) : the eyeglasses girl, the leader and weirdest one, main singer, and she is a great dancer Mizyu (22 yo) twin ponytail girl: she is the oldest, she is also a dancer and singer Rin (19 yo) : curly hair girl, hip hop dancer and DJ, she also great singer Kanon (19 yo) the straight hair girl, ballet dancer, she is also great singer
On the blackboard, it is written, "Tomorrow will be the exam, so study hard! (明日は試験、勉強しとけ!)". I hadn't heard of "the New School Leaders", but this MV is a cool one-shot.
More Atarashii Gakko please! Most people start with their song Nai Nai Nai - the official video and the live from the train car version are both great. Freaks (official choreography video) version is another good one!
I think you might like the band SCANDAL - ‘A.M.D.K.J.’ and ‘Saishuheiki Kimi’ and ‘Masterpiece’ and ‘Scandal Baby’, just to name a few. They just celebrated their 15th anniversary.
Atarashii Gakko's videos are often a lot of fun, especially those non-music clips where they're just goofing around or showing the viewer japanese school life (in a highly satirical way). Unfortunately I don't connect to their music at all, it's not my cup of tea. But they're highly talented and the choreo is impressive.
Not sure why I am not more "in" to this group. Obviously, massively talented. Choreography is fresh, super tight and in-sync. I generally have a soft spot for jazz/fusion music (or jazz influenced music). And 1-takes are impressive. Maybe I am just too old school for these "new school leaders." Or just too old. 😉 Glad you enjoyed. BTW, Gombers, AJ Hartley did 2 or 3 reaction/review videos on this group. You might want to see what he had to say (after you've done your own reaction to the particular song, of course). Adds his usual extras regarding Japanese language/culture.
These girls are hilarious and have quite a few catchy tunes. They post a few of their dance rehearsals on their official site and they are quite funny. If you fancy taking the J-pop route, then I highly recommend the queens of the alternative J-pop scene BiSH. It stands for 'Brand-new idol Shit' and they are more like an anti-idol group whereas they don't really give a shit what people expect of them, just do their own thing. They call themselves the punk band without instruments and all 6 of the girls have distinctively different voices and styles. They've got some great songs too and have played in some pretty big venues around Japan. This is a link to one of their songs from their biggest show so far called 'NON TiE-UP' at Makuhari Messe in 2018 - ua-cam.com/video/-EBhpOs-zsw/v-deo.html And yes, before you ask they are doing exactly what you think they're doing during the choro in the chorus lol. They are quite big in Japan but haven't transitioned to the react scene yet. Someone has to change that...*winky face*
AG sing better than many idol groups, but I think of them as more of a dance group that sings than a singing group that dances. They do their own choreography and have also choreographed for other groups. They've lacked the extent of resources and musical support that Amuse can give BM, but now they are with 88rising they might grow in Asia and also America. Like BM they are original and it's the differences from many idol groups that makes them interesting. They are sort of anti-idols and "enfants terribles". Their lyrics can be very down to earth and they don't shy away from sex. I suggest you look at the three versions of "NaiNaiNai" available on UA-cam and react to the one you like best...the dance practice and from the train car are my favorites.
Oh Yeah! You will love them! This is the "other" Suzuka in my life, lol! She can sing quite well and is a nutball who will crack you up. They have some great songs and like others have said, they design their own choreography. They have a series on Japanese school life and culture called Seishun Academy that is cool. They also just started a new series , The Real AG!'s American Experiment from their recent trip to LA. Otona Blue Live on Thumva is my favorite right now. ua-cam.com/video/-yR1IBtixHY/v-deo.html
They are Japanese. Mistaking Japanese for Korean is as disrespectful to both sides as mistaking Ireland for England. The Koreans are very good at making pretty packages that look like the West, but the Japanese just can't seem to make anything that doesn't smell like Japan. Also, they just can't help themselves and this is what happens! It is a characteristic of many Japanese artists that they have a sense of being out of place.
I didn’t think they were Korean? I thought it was pretty clear from their name they’re Japanese? And also the language? Would love if you found a spot in the video where I say this because I honestly don’t recall it 🤔 Edit: yeah just rewatched my whole reaction and I never even comment on the language or where they’re from. I figured it was understood with the title of the band so I’m not sure where this is coming from. But if I said anything that insinuated I was confusing the two cultures I’m sorry. But I’d be pretty disappointed in myself considering the amount of both languages that I’ve been checking out 😅

The words that come to my mind with Atarashii Gakko are “Creative Geniuses”. Definitely check out more of their stuff.

Atarashii Gakko is inevitable after Babymetal.
its like old scholar memorizing book, the lyric is insane, i feel u guys, hahaha
Fantastic reaction!
The lyrics are a list of "Idioms" that are learned in school and meant to be memorized.

Suzuka of Babymetal and Suzuka of Atarashii Gakko are my weakness.
try reacting to one of their live performances. imagine dancing like that and singing at the same time. sick! i luv them.
I loved that homage they did to Michael Jackson with the Beat It dance

I have been waiting for someone to react to them. They are really fabulous and a lot of fun. You should react to all of their stuff.

That was fun!
