Welcome to my first instalment of the Dead Or Alive series!
Today Ill be talking about the protagonist and kunoichi of destiny Kasumi!
I hope you enjoy this video and learn more by doing so! I was pleasantly surprised with how this video turned out and I had a lot of fun doing.
I learned alot about the Dead Or Alive series from this one video alone and I am really REALLY looking forward to making future instalments In this series.

I am all for this! To many people believe that DOA is nothing more than fan service which triggered the childish controversy for DOA 6, even though the developers clearly stated that the fan service was not gone, just toned down and more realistic. I KNOW that fan service is a big part of the series, but to many fail to realize that DOA has a lot of deep lore and there are more to the characters than just looking attractive.
I agree with you. DOA has more iconic things about the series than just boobs bouncing in a fighting game. If it wasnt for Mai Shiranui being created there would have been NO WAY Itagaki implemented it into the series. DOA is also iconic for its fast paced 3d fighting, its crazy stage transitions, the main protagonist being a GIRL (And i love it too but im not a feminist), and having a spin off series which is dedicated for its iconic fan service. Hell I heard Itagaki was PISSED OFF that DOA5 was just so over saturated with sexy fan service and said "I wanted this to be a fighting game not a booby game. Thats why i made the Xtreme Beach Volleyball series." (I dont really think so about the fan service which i like but still he has a point). All in all, i think people need to realize that DOA isnt ALL ABOUT the boobs unless youre playing Xtreme. There is more iconic things about this game than just only boobs youll never hope to touch.
Exactly! Thank you! People said DOA was dead because they thought that fan service was the what made the game stand out. Guess they never heard about Soul Calibur then, I mean look at Ivy, she is more fan service than half of the DOA girls combined. And what I loved the most was how real it looked. The fight animation was much more realistic than most fighting games, despite all the over the top stuff. The hits looked real and the details of the characters getting bruises and even sweating when the fight is over, that's what happens after you have been in a fight.
My pick would have been Taki but yes. Ivy is very fan servicy! Also yes the realistic details help it stand out more, the only other fighting game i see doing that is Jump Force, and thats not even what the FGC wants or likes. Tecmo fans are way too boobs deep in DOA fan service.
The problem is that they toned it down to please people who don't even play video games, the same reason Extreme 3 didn't come out west. And this series has been well known about its breasts since the very first game with the age 99 setting.
Fans of the series both out west and Japan have been decrying these decisions as it is not about fan service vs plot, why can't it be both. It is like being forced to choose between pepperoni pizza and sausage pizza, I happen to like both toppings so why can't I get both.
Why do you think we are only getting a basic physical version and a digital deluxe version, when Japan is getting much better options.
No, the game was known for it's smooth game play and crazy over the top stages. It was among the first games that really brought out environment interaction something that helped inspire Injustice and even MK took notice of it. The game did not become fan service focused until Dead or alive Xtreme and Dead or alive 5 came out, which honestly is the reason why not so many people were taking the series seriously anymore because of how it devolved to appeal to people who is just in it for the ladies.
And I doubt they toned it down because of sjw, Japan never gave a crap about that.
I know fan service did help the games sell, just like Ivy helped Soul Calibur. But at the end of the day, people used to be all in for the fun game play, something I am happy that DOA 6 will focus on. *BUT* it does not matter now since the fan service is back anyway, so let's not argue about this. It's not worth it.
Once people actually give DOA a chance they find it’s actually a good game worth playing. Thanks for making this. Kasumi is great. Please do Ayane next

Funny I was just considering giving this game a chance. It's just what kept me away from this game was the SJW's and the complaints this game gets

Hearing all of that reminded me of how much crap Baesumi and Ayane went through when they were young up until the big reveal but at least Ayane had some semblance of care for her in four so baby steps.

To point out how bad her characterization is in that movie, She is one of the few Doa characters who is genuinely nice, while the rest are either assholes or entering the tournament for their own selfish desires.

can be considered asshole ;D almost all characters are noble in certain way, even villains.
Hitomi, Lei Fang, are playful that simply seek challange, they are not really that interested in money.
Eliot simply tries to test his skills, also not interested in money.
Gen fu fought to find cure for his grandaughter
Zack well seeks money, fame and women true, but his carefree nature makes him loveable in his own way ;D
Same with villains.
Kasumi Alpha despite being a villain she is just lonely confused child that seeks family love.

I've wanted to see you cover the DOA series since I first subscribed to you years ago.
Kasumi was one of my biggest video game crushes growing up as a fighting game fan of the 90's. Her story and character is very interesting, she's kind-hearted but not completely fickle. It's quite sad that people downplay it and simply dismiss DOA as nothing more than "fanservice bait for perverts".
Looking forward to more in the future. Especially for when you cover my fellow Karate practitioner, Hitomi.

She was Trying to Save Helena

I would say Ryu Hyabusa. But I'm not sure how you'll handle his lore, because of his extended history in Ninja Gaiden.
Thanks for starting to make DOA videos! On the Kasumi Vs. Helena part in DOA4: Helena was trying to shut down and destroy DOATEC because she didn't agree with all the experiments and other activities that were being conducted behind her back. So she wasn't trying to release Alpha-152 but destroy it and everything else.
If we are going with Dead or Alive. I'll put my vote for Hitomi.

I enjoy both Tekken and DOA and I play both but I just realized, in DOA the main characters the story is based on fight against an evil corporation, in Tekken the main characters ARE the evil corporation and eventually corporations after Kazuya loses control over Mishima Zaibatsu and then takes over G Corp. Oh and definitely do Ryu Hayabusa. I'm actually hoping for Death Battle do a Ryu Hayabusa vs Jin Kazama in the future, fiend curse vs devil blood style.
Dang. The video's really good and a lot of lore that is to be discovered. Definitely would love to more of this series.
I recommend doing Jann Lee next as he's fan favorite from the series or Hayate, brother of Kasumi.

I know this game has a lot of fan service, but it has been a great fighting game since 1996. The fighters in this game can easily go toe-to-toe with the fighters of any other fighting game franchise. Great Move, Great Combos.

A quick correction though: Genra wasn't secretly working with DOATEC, he was yet another of the Mugen Tenshin ninjas that DOATEC captured and experimented on. After Hayate, Kasumi, then Genra all fell prey to DOATEC's experiments, this is what drove Hayate to launch the full scale attack in DOA4.
That was in the original games. He's going of dimensions version of events( which is why he mentions Ryu helping her defeat raidou.).

It's pronounce ka-su-mi, not ka-zu-mi. You pronounce the s sound in japanese names. The only exception i've seen is tsu, which is katakana, not hiragana.
Z to s - if that's the worst pronunciation issue then he's done an excellent job!

I think the DOA series is my favorite fighting game series, really underrated. In my opinion anyway. I know in most of the games he's called Hyabusa, but please just call him Ryu, it's so much easier and less of a mouthful.
Yes it is!! I bought DOA 5 a few years ago as my intro to the series and been addicted ever since. So much with such cool characters. Especially the ladies!! 😉🤩

No, it's underrated, it's always Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken, heck any Arc System game like BlazBlue and Guilty Gear gets more attention than Dead or Alive.

Question for fighting games:
Why does the character have such a flooded backstory? Am I suppose to learn something about life by understanding the Kazumi Klone Katatrophe? Am I suppose to feel better about myself when I learn about Gear wars and Gear people? Am I suppose to be more aware of real world problems by learning about the complicated reasoning for why a guy needs to go to ANOTHER GODDAMN FIGHTING TOURNAMENT?!?!?!?
Will give credit where credit is due though! These stories are very creative. Where do they come up with this stuff...?
@@Freefork Same reason other fictional stoies give their characters backstories and motives. Also most characters in fighting gams don't have this type of backstory.
@@fightingmedialounge519 I find it funny that you didn't give that reason. Another thing, even smaller games like Kenshi Sacred Fist and many more have ridiculous backstories as well.
I will say the reason if you won't: because it is fun to do. No one expects a story from something that isn't marketed strictly for its narrative, so we get vanity projects or brainstorm sessions in which every idea gets in.
@@Freefork I actually I did give a reason; it's called basic storytelling. No, some of them have ridiculous backstories, some just have pretty standard ones.
If you're problem is that you don't think fighting games should have the type of stories found in books, movies, and TV shows, then as I said before there are plenty of characters who have a more generic backstory for fighting games(even in doa) . It's just that as time goes on and new people join development teams, they want to push the limitations set by past games. This includes graphics, mechanics, and yes, story.

I also should let you know there is also Phase 4 the more recent Kasumi Clone you missed. Nonetheless IT FEELS SO GREAT to see you move on to other fighters and series too. I hope you do series like Bloody Roar and Virtua Fighter, and maybe the SNK fighting games too, but you know (SNK fans......) KEEP THIS UP!!!!!!!!

She ran away from the clan and did it without consent. Ayane and Hayate are coming and going from the village with permission.
@@TheDarkknightrules92 That's a ninja thing. Historically, for ninjas there is no such thing as "leaving for a good reason". If you leave the clan, you are going down.
There were many reasons for this. Gaijin Goomba has covered this topic in his videos from time to time.

Aside from mispronouncing her name (it's Kasumi, not Kazumi), great video! Kasumi is one of my favorite female characters ever!
By the way, she only appears in Ninja Gaiden as a DLC character in the the third game in 2012 without any story relevance.

Love Dead or Alive, nice seeing something besides Mortal Kombat, though I love that game too. I also love other fighters besides it, like DOA, Street Fighter, Killer Instinct, Fatal Fury, KOF, Tekken & Soul Calibur on top of Darkstalkers. You should do videos on all those franchises lol.
Samurai Showdown, Battle Arena Toshindin, Vitua Fighter and Primal Rage, Eternal Warriors also lol.
