I think people use taunts clear their mind for a second. You spent the whole match focusing in both you and your opponent, trying to calculate the exact distance to land a move, but because of you focus on two thing moving at the same time, you often miscalculate. But by taunting you stay in one place for a couple of frames were you cant do nothing, this forces you to look only at your opponent. Once you know the exact distance, the taunt is over and you can easily hit your opponent. Or maybe I am overthinking such a simple thing as “Taunts”
