  • Come with us on a wild trek into the jungle on the hunt for amazing QLD mining history. This mission was no joke. We were equipped with pin point accurate KML/GPX mapping pins after some extensive research and previous field work in this location, but this mountain range is unforgiving. We battled countless enormous spiders, numerous snakes and unrelenting heat and jungle as we embarked on the hunt for the elusive upper Phoenix Reef gold mines. We find a high grade stope not referenced on any maps and find a long lost lower adit on the second day. Two of our crew suffered from serious heat stroke the evening after this adventure, relegating this mountain range to a winter only expedition category. On the day we set of my pack was 22kg full of the best 4k cameras, lights, mic kits, water and food rations. At one stage i was not sure i would actually make it off the mountain.
We hope you enjoy this wild ride and please remember to never name any of our video locations in the comments section. We keep the names out of our content to protect the sites, local residents and keep the important mining history intact. We respectfully ask you to adhere to that same code.

@@norm6973 I was in Australia drinking margheritas and egging on Buck Chancey to push the limits whilst he was in the US & Canada. He did! He also spent a lot of time underground with an extreme lack of sleep. It was a commendable effort.

Just another important note about this huge mission... RIP the original QAM mine exploring chariot. The plucky 2010 Ford Fiesta. In our first 3 years of exploring that tiny thing got us to some insane locations it was not built for. It blew two hydraulic engine mounts, 4 shocks and many tyres getting Buck Chancey and I up some tough 4WD trails. It's now slowly dying in my shed and has not started since this trip. Thanks also to Brophy and John for push-starting it for 3 full days on this trip ♥️♥️

This mountain became a complete obsession of mine. There still is the biggest series of tunnels inside this mountain nobody has seen for decades. I was desperate to get inside them and document it. In the end, the mountain always beats us as the grade and jungle is unrelenting.
The research comes with the hobby. We have done entire day-long hikes that have led to collapsed tunnels or bulldozed workings. You never know if you don't go.
