    I’m an astrophotographer mostly because of you, Trevor. I started almost a year ago a quickly advanced to the gold standards. Mainly because I wanted the best result with the least frustrations. I like this video because it’s something special for anyone to be able to share a hobby with a life partner. That’s something money can’t buy.

    About 7 years ago my wife, Virginia, and I were driving home from North Carolina where I had run an Ironman triathlon (144 miles of swim, bike and run). Soon after we started the 800 mile drive, Virginia asked me, "now would you do something for me...would you teach me to run?". Blew me away (she never ran in her then 59 year old life). Of course I said yes.
    Glad you said yes too...well done.

  • @Wheeljack678
    @Wheeljack678 3 роки тому

    I enjoyed watching this video. Goes to show that all you really need to be able to capture and process great images is an interest to do so. The improvements will come naturally over time with practice. There really is something special about assembling amateur gear, pointing at spot in the skies and getting those images back from your own backyard. That will probably never grow old for me. My first image of the Whirlpool Galaxy was a blurred, out-of-focus, trailed mess of an image with a swirly dot that with enough imagination could resemble a galaxy. That horrible blob of pixels is probably still my favorite image - because it got me into this hobby for real.

      @@BhojinderpalSingh I get that, but I don't have a fancy motorized setup, with an electronic tracker and all this other stuff, and I was just wondering: if I were to buy such a camera, how would I make it take pictures? I merely want a cheap small camera like that which fits in an eyepiece slot that I'm thinking to insert in a turret; so I'd pick an "ambitious" target like the Moon or Jupiter or Saturn, get it manually in the middle of the view, then rotate the turret and get a few shots, hoping that one of them will be with both the telescope and the atmosphere reasonably still. I guess such a camera focuses automatically when inserted into an eyepiece slot, right?

    Nice start Ashley, keep shooting ! Trevor, the reason that you have to rotate the dec axis so the telescope looks East or West to see through the polar scope is that if you have to rotate the ra axis to bring the polar scope diagrams at the correct position or to calibrate the e-polar scope to do the polar alignment there is a danger to hit the scope to the mount. With the dec rotation the scope will pass in front of the tripod and not on the tripod.

    I’m wishing for a decent telescope for my 10th birthday in 6 days. I’m gonna see the moon,mars and Jupiter if I can. You made me really interested in astronomy. Thank you for giving me my thought of a future job!

    Hi Trevor, this is a very valuable tutorial because it is so detailed; including the little things that your more advanced tuts just skip over (things like your polar alignment). And it was great to have Ashley getting down ‘n’ dirty - more of Ash please,. Well done!

    This was the perfect video for me to decide on which rig to buy and get started. I was going to jump in the deep end and get an EdgeHD11 with all the trimmings and just work it out as I go. However, I'm going to start with the basics first, learn as much as I can and go from there. Good on you Ash!

    Ashley, it's good to see that you're doing this. Honestly, not sure if it's because you wanted to, or you were asked to, but it doesn't really matter. I started into this hobby a few years ago, and then had my world come crashing down, so I haven't done any AP, haven't been able to, for four years now. I'm hoping to be able to get started again maybe this year. Your learning curve will help me to really get started in all of this, and one day, I hope to be able to do as good as you've done on this first image.
    Very nicely done!

    Hi ! I love your wife's t-shirt: "Protect the night"!
    Light pollution is really a big problem, and not only for astrophotographers.
