Excuse me, Doctor.. do your heels and toes really fit this shoe from end to end just like in the thumbnail or do you have a little allowance? Coz I really and always have a problem knowing what is the right fit for me whenever I buy basketball shoes. Thank you so much, doc! 🙂
Hey Doc-- do you think these would be good for someone with Plantar Fasciitis? And if not, do you have any suggestions for which shoes to look into? Thank you!
Thanks for the review and tear down! I have put 6-7 hours of play in the AJ 36 and this is by far the bounciest feeling shoes I have ever experienced! And I have been using ZoomAir shoes since the late 1990-ies. The impact absorption is really good in the heel, while the forefoot Zoom bag springs back after loading, giving you the sensation of mini trampoline! As for the fit - shoe runs a bit long and narrow. They felt uncomfortably snug wide wise at the forefoot, while lengthwise I still had 5mm from big toe to shoe end. First putting them on foot I thought that I will have to return the pair and go 1/2 or 1 size up. Fortunately either the materials stretch or insole compactifies(or both), so now I even need a thicker sock. The only issue I have with AJ36 is with heel lockdown - I feel a slight heel movement up-down incidentally. I have no problems with Zoom protruding - shoe doesn't feel wobbly to me and it's like the bulge makes it easier to feel ZoomAir loading and rebounding.
@@FootDoctorZach A short update from my side - found out that if I thread the laces over the covering piece of leather with the Jumpman logo the fit and lock improves noticeably! Not sure if real or mind trick ;) I also kinda like the look better.
Zero issues with forefoot either. Once worn it’s non-issue. Feel like this review isn’t aging so well @Foot Doctor Zach. Compared to the field, these are elite! Zero break in for me, hard to find anything close to this tech!

Mine are on the way, found your video while waiting and I'm a 14 very flat narrower feet. Noticed you said go up . 5 size. They don't make 14.5 so I did buy the 15. I'm 45 and still play like a younger athletic guard and need support, ground feel, not a ton of cushion and typically feel shiftier in a low top. Today's Shoes are made so small it seems, I buy performance and style, and I struggle with finding a good fit. Over the last 3 years PG4 and Gianni's Freak2 have been ideal. KDs in a 14 we're so tight and I thought they would be great but nope. Do you think these will work?
@@FootDoctorZach unbelievably Dicks had these in 15. (I haven't been to a retail store to buy shoes and so long I couldn't believe it but they had many models in my size) Tried them on and def too long. I grabbed some Pumas, as I've been really interested in trying them and didn't realize they have a similar return policy as Nike. I can wear them and bring them back within 90 days. The Jordans are still on the way so maybe I can get lucky and return them for a 14 or sell privately for a profit.
This shoe is the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. No pain at all when I play volleyball. I play middle blocker and setter, so I have to pivot, shuffle, jump and run a lot. I sprain my ankle often and have abit of a wide foot, but this shoe keeps me so stable and no chafing of my toes. The traction is pretty good, picks up dust but not too much. And it is so light, I don’t feel any negative weight working against me. As for the bulge of the zoom unit in the forefoot, don’t worry, i did not feel unstable at all. All in all, most comfy shoe ever, light and supportive. Out of 10, I would give a 9/10. Missing 1 is that crazy curry traction:) I’m 1.84m and 70~kg. Just for reference

The 36 is the goat, looks, performance, these things and the low are a beast, light, bouncy, tons of breathing. For my foot shape this is by far the best shoe I’ve hooped in over my 32 years of playing.
Played in these. And as for me, they play just fine. Quick, responsive. Secured and comfortable. I think the G.T Jumps are the only ones better tp Play in.

Like a running shoe, a basketball shoe is similar. comfort depends on the type of foot that you have. The only Jordans that I experienced playing on was the AJ12s and they're uncomfortable as fck, but I still loved them because Jordan wasn't retired yet during those years.
Air Jordan 36 were awesome….for about two months. When new the mesh upper really wrapped the feet very well so much so that it felt the arch were supported very well. Then the good times stopped there, the mesh upper on my pair gave out too much. Feels like the feet were sliding around in the shoes too much no matter how tight the laces were tied. That combined with the protruding zoom unit made it feel unstable.
Just got my pair, saw some comments about the wear after 2 months. Is the change in fit of the shoe because of the loosening that severe? also can you still use it efficiently after that slight change?
Thanks for reviewing! However, these are the only pair of bball shoes that makes my arches ache and feel on fire after an hour of play. Why is that? Is it because of the dual stack zoom unit? I hate to give these up because they perform well, but my arches though 😔
It’s just hitting you in the wrong spot- same with my foot and the numbness I talk about in the video- it may break in after a week or so of use but for sure some people just aren’t going to be able to tolerate these
Thank you! I was so looking forward to these but I hate them! Rigid, thin upper and that forefoot Zoom felt like the 33s, only less stable and a little harder. Super narrow too! Easy pass, the AJ34 low was way better for someone looking for the characteristics these have IMHO

Yeah that zoom pod that sticks out is something you HAVE to get used to bc just walking in these shoes you’ll be all over the place until your leg muscles get used to it
Yeah that zoom air really pushes into the ball of my foot. Do you think you can eventually smush it down to where the forefoot becomes relatively flat?
Hey Doc, what are your thoughts on using basketball shoes for hard court tennis? I have some really solid pairs of bball shoes that I didn’t play much with on the basketball court but I’m thinking of using for tennis. I feel like aside from durability, they have similar tech as well as the advantage of being lighter and more breathable. Thanks!!

Doctor Zach. I would be glad if you help me. My son is a 15 year old licensed basketball player. He has been playing basketball since he was 8 years old. We live in Turkey. My son has elastic flat sole problem in his foot. The doctors said it was okay for him to play basketball. When the foot is on the ground, it becomes a flat sole, when it is lifted, it becomes a normal sole. I may not be able to write correctly in English. Until last year, he always wore Jordan. (Jordan 4, jordan 11, jordan sapce jam 8 etc.) His feet and knees were sore after training. I researched last year. Kevin Durent also has flat feet. I bought Kd 14, my son's foot and knee pains are gone. But when viewed from behind, it looks like his foot is a little crooked. I bought it at Kd 15. My son didn't like it very much. My son jordan wants 36 or 37. What would you recommend? Should you buy insoles for flat soles and put them in shoes? His doctor said there is no need for such a thing. Should I get Jordan 36 or 37? What would you recommend? Or should we choose other than these models? Could it be pg or curry ? Since there are no Turkish subtitles in your videos, I have a hard time translating and understanding what you are saying. I would be very happy if you write a detailed answer. Thanks.
I was thinking there was air that popped in the forefoot area due to this feeling of pressure the front of my foot. After watching this.. and knowing that I have unbelievably high arches.. think I found my problem. Any suggestions to accommodate for this? I’d hate to buy new shoes.
Thanks 👍 UA curry probably my go to in that category if using for indoor - outdoor probably GP turbo even though a tennis shoe works great on outdoor hoops
Is the shoe good or bad for hoopers with bad history of rolled ankles. The jordan 35 was a great shoe for ankle support. The 35 low was even better for ankle support. Im looking to upgrade and would love to stay with the jordan brand
Just got a pair of these and absolutely love them. But for some reason I can feel the forefoot Zoom Air Unit when I'm walking, but only in the right shoe. Alongside this, it's also squeaking. Any idea why? I had the same squeaking problem with the zoom freak 3.
Great vid Zach, are these a magnet for a rolled ankle? I like the kobe protro not just as the court feel, but I feel the outrigger and shank plate lock my ankles in. Any advice?
Hey doc I got a question about the AJ 36. If you cut the tread bridge out and made the sole two independent units similar to the AJ 28, would the shoe preform differently and would the overall shoe still be usable?
Almost bought on line. But I have wide feet. What shoe do you think is the most comfortable for outdoor basketball for people with wide feet. I like a big bounce effect. Wearing 2021 Lebrons. But fit a bit tight. Thank You for true video info!!
Great review Zach. I just picked a pair of these up and like them although the toe box is a bit snug causing my pinky toe to rub some. What do u suggest for that? Different socks or tape my toe?
@@FootDoctorZach thanks for your reply. I may add/try Zoom Freak 3’s since they are reasonably priced. I’m hoping they will be friendly to my old knees. My KD13’s were not and the Nike ES was out of the 14’s so I bought the J 36’s.
so I picked up a pair of these, and I love them. HOWEVER, the forefoot zoom bag in the right shoe popped about 20 minutes into my first time playing in them. will be contacting the company to leverage the warranty.
@@FootDoctorZach they are replacing them. I was pretty shocked when I felt it pop. I've had zoom units go in other shoes, but only after like years of use. love your videos by the way.
Hey! Wondering if you think this is good shoe for somebody with a flat foot? I often get plantar fascia pain while playing basketball, but not running or anything less dynamic. Also have you heard of MOVE Insoles? Would love a breakdown of them as they are co-founded and invested in by Cp3 and Dame
Surprised you didn't touch on the perforated insoles. After the first day playing in these shoes (1.5 hrs) I came home and immediately ripped out the insole. The holes were acting as a cheese grater on the balls of my feet. I fully expected to have big blisters on my feet when I took the shoes off, that's what it felt like. No blisters, but I did have a lot of redness and soreness. I had small indentations on my foot even the next morning. Since replacing them with a normal, solid insole I have been able to play in them without issue. Just something I thought others would want to know before purchasing.
Hey Zach, I just bought this shoe for basketball indoors. After trying on the size 10.5, they were too tight, so I decided going with an 11. After playing in the shoe, I got blisters on both of my heels. Do you think this is because I need to break them in? Thanks in advance
New subscriber here. While I like the basketball reviews. Let's see some hiking shoes, running shoes. I am in my 40s and don't play much ball anymore but definitely have a shoes addiction. With that said I want shoes that are comfortable. I still buy basketball shoes but mainly running and hiking. Like the New UA Hovr Phantom 2. I would like to hear your feedback on those. Since I have them I will be able to hear your thoughts on them. It will help me with other reviews you have done. Hope you understand all that jumbo.
I just bought these shoes 😍 instant hit for me. Initially it’s a little tight on the front but after few hours of intense play it fit’s snuggly now. This shoe is only for intense performance athletes coz comfort is less vs performance. It’s beautiful looking too. It didn’t slip on dusty court. It’s super light too and reflexes are at lightning speed. I did some massive dives which i wasn’t able to on a kd9. I am a competitive volleyball hitter and upgraded from KD 9 coz landing impact was harder and hurting my front of the foot.
@@desinomad7413 I'm considering buying these for volleyball, but I have a wide foot so I'm afraid they wont fit. Also, I have a bit of knee pain, and I was wondering how good the impact absorption is?

From my experience AJ36 runs long, so going size up will only exacerbate this fact. I went TTS and I have more space(~5mm) between big toe and shoe that I like, adding a full size up seems not a good idea, especially when you say you have narrow foot. I have found AJ36 do breaks in, making some room at the forefoot after few hours of play.
Great review! I’ve been looking at these for a while but I have been scared of the mid foot shank and plastic overlays on the lateral side of the shoe. Did you experience any discomfort in that area?
For me, no problems there but I did feel a slight imbalance in the pressure of the zoom forefoot unit from right to left shoe. Right shoe was a little more raised and less comfortable.

Excellent analysis! Keep it up mate!
Thanks! Glad you liked it
More of this please! Nice video btw! Keep it up!
Thanks! Glad you liked it
My mom needed to see this when I was a kid.. she would understand why they worth $200 😅
Nniiceee!! Can you do tear down of retro sneakers? Like Scotty Pippen kicks, Penny Foamposites, Shaqs, or Kenny Griff Jrs?
Yup- I’ve got the Jordan 2 coming up soon actually as well
Great review, thanks for putting it together.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow I'm new on your channel and impressed with this rewiew.
Thanks! Glad you liked it
Hopefully you get a chance to do a review on the new jordan 12 retro playoffs. Great content once again
👍👍
Wow your videos are really informative
Glad you got something out of them 👍👍
Yeah that zoom air really pushes into the ball of my foot. Do you think you can eventually smush it down to where the forefoot becomes relatively flat?
I didn’t for me but if it does then the zoom is going flat so that’s not a great outcome either
Thanks!!
They aren’t as stable laterally and aren’t as fast but plenty of people do it and have great luck with it
Nice review
You should do the dame 7 extply
SUBBED!!!! Been lookin into a new hoop sneaker. Thanks for the in depth review. 🔥
Appreciate it!
Hi 👋 Gr8 content doc👌☝️. Yes I buy the Jordan’s Every year since 1991 and must say they become like the Rally cars 🚙 structure..Nothing in or on them ,just what really need for performance..But this year model is really “unstable” for me and all the details what you just mentioned are CORRECT ✊..Not good for wide footed people too..Even when I walk in the shoes Only on street, sometimes my ankles wanna go on sides in this shoes…Should Not stuck out those front units..And needs more some stability things on the sides…Keep up the AMAZING work of yours 👌🤝..Fan from Dutch
Thanks! Glad you liked it
Thanks for making video very good

Not particularly - maybe a stiffer insert but it’s just the shape of the shoe unfortunately
Great review! The magnification was dope. Any suggestions for recent basketball shoes that do offer comfort without sacrificing performance?
It’s the interface between the air and the foam- most times it doesn’t go away but you can try powder under the insole that sometimes helps
that shoe destroy my knee, thank you jordan 36 i have my mcl injury till now
good and unique content!
Thanks! glad you like it
Great vid Zach, are these a magnet for a rolled ankle? I like the kobe protro not just as the court feel, but I feel the outrigger and shank plate lock my ankles in. Any advice?
These arent the greatest things in the world for an ankle sprainer but not terrible either
Thanks great video
Are they any good for just walking outside with them?
Instantly subscribed to your channel
Thanks! Glad you’re liking the videos
would love to see you do a video for the converse bb jet!
Yeah that’d be fun
Thanks
Great Review bro, watching your videos for years, could you do a Review of ANTA shoes for example KT 7 ????
Please....
Ty....
Yep they’re on the list
Do a versus video!
These vs the zoom gt runs 😈
👍👍
Hey doc I got a question about the AJ 36. If you cut the tread bridge out and made the sole two independent units similar to the AJ 28, would the shoe preform differently and would the overall shoe still be usable?
Yeah it would prob be more flexible
Does this shoe make it so that when you jump you would jump higher in the Jordan 36 thank you would in the KD 15 for example?
Almost bought on line. But I have wide feet. What shoe do you think is the most comfortable for outdoor basketball for people with wide feet. I like a big bounce effect. Wearing 2021 Lebrons. But fit a bit tight. Thank You for true video info!!
I actually made a video on that - hope it helps!

Great review Zach. I just picked a pair of these up and like them although the toe box is a bit snug causing my pinky toe to rub some. What do u suggest for that? Different socks or tape my toe?
You could try to stretch them but that’s just how they’re built and the uppers don’t give much so it may be unavoidable to a certain extent
@@FootDoctorZach thanks for your reply. I may add/try Zoom Freak 3’s since they are reasonably priced. I’m hoping they will be friendly to my old knees. My KD13’s were not and the Nike ES was out of the 14’s so I bought the J 36’s.
Would love to see you do your wear down test on a shoe with XDR rubber vs it’s regular counterpart
Good idea - XDR is usually worth a mm
What’s the best shoe you’d recommend for arch and ankle support?
Probably hardens in the basketball lineup - the next levels are good but just so so heavy - lebrons have a nice tie down around the ankle too
so I picked up a pair of these, and I love them. HOWEVER, the forefoot zoom bag in the right shoe popped about 20 minutes into my first time playing in them. will be contacting the company to leverage the warranty.
Jeeze thats terrible- they should get you a new pair no problem though
@@FootDoctorZach they are replacing them. I was pretty shocked when I felt it pop. I've had zoom units go in other shoes, but only after like years of use. love your videos by the way.
Thanks!
I was sold until you said the ankle support not good. Dope review but I mainly wear lows but I need ankle support from the shoe for roll over...
Nice vid
Ill be reviewing them soon
It hurts me everytime someone cuts down through these
Surprised you didn't touch on the perforated insoles.
I didn’t really notice them underfoot that’s interesting - I typically don’t talk about the insole just because most people replace them
awesome video
Appreciate it👍👍
Hey Zach, I just bought this shoe for basketball indoors. After trying on the size 10.5, they were too tight, so I decided going with an 11. After playing in the shoe, I got blisters on both of my heels. Do you think this is because I need to break them in? Thanks in advance
Did going up a size be best for people with wide feet or does it just get longer. Also did they break in
Had blister on these on my tts. Should i go half size up?
That’s a good insight- interesting you like them for volleyball too
@@dwilfred923 they are amazing , fit like a glove. I have used them tournaments
@@dwilfred923 Nope nothing of that sort.
@@desinomad7413 I'm considering buying these for volleyball, but I have a wide foot so I'm afraid they wont fit. Also, I have a bit of knee pain, and I was wondering how good the impact absorption is?
@@alexanderarberg the absorption is fantastic but don’t buy if you have wide feet. My narrow feet even find them tighter than I would like
Good explanation than others
Glad you got something out of it 👍
Mine are on the way, found your video while waiting and I'm a 14 very flat narrower feet.
From my experience AJ36 runs long, so going size up will only exacerbate this fact. I went TTS and I have more space(~5mm) between big toe and shoe that I like, adding a full size up seems not a good idea, especially when you say you have narrow foot. I have found AJ36 do breaks in, making some room at the forefoot after few hours of play.
@@zlatko. thank you. It's nearly impossible to find a 14 in any color. If so I'll cancel the 15
Doe sit fit good
Great review!
@@Kalbo.. that’s great to know, thanks!
The width and those protrusions broke in better than I thought but it’s still a pretty stiff shoe
Have you experienced the issue where the forefoot zoom unit feels squeaky/or when the insole rubbing with the thin cloth layer on the zoom unit??
Can you give me your opinion for how the shoe would feel for a flat footed player?
Just as good as any other IMO
Hey Doc-- do you think these would be good for someone with Plantar Fasciitis? And if not, do you have any suggestions for which shoes to look into? Thank you!!
I actually made a video on that - hope it helps!
ua-cam.com/video/wqJGIY1m9qc/v-deo.html
I once rolled my ankle practicing football barefoot so I am not sure about a wobbly forefoot, but my name is Michael so you know.
Haha right
Love your videos can you do tray young basketball shoe please 💯💯💯
In the mail 👍
Does anyone know if you can cut off that little piece of fabric with the Jordan logo (on the laces)? I have a hard time tying the shoe properly.
Also what would you recommend for flat footed guys with wide feet?
Hi Zach, can you do a video for Zion 1? Thank you!
👍👍
