This videos from you guys are gold. No one never will be able to teach us like this. Been making music and mixing for 6 years. Now i understand very well how exactly compression do
Compression tip for yall: I submitted a song to a radio station and they didn't like it because they felt like my vocals were peeking out of the mix instead of sitting in it. Make sure you automate your volume before using compression, gives the compressor less work!
Great video, this is the kind of videos newbie mixing engineers need, after all, if you don't know why you should use a tool, you're just mixing blind.
One thing I don't understand is why these dynamic range issues arent a problem during live performances. in a live performances singers might want to suddenly do loud flasettos, instruments might suddenly go quiet or pop at random points....Why isn't this an issue then?
Is it a good idea when you’re singing to have your vocal compressed before it is recorded on a track in logic and then fine-tune the compression later? I’ve heard that some people do this.
I still don't get it, 1) you can fix with a better recording or automation 2) with EQ and fader 3) intstrument missing? change instruments? 4) all of the above
I am missing the part where compression is also used for loudness (loudness wars, etc) but in this Spotify age that might become more and more irrelevant. See this video: ua-cam.com/video/EiRMYoqU3ys/v-deo.html
WE DON’T NEED COMPRESSION!!! Alan Parson: “I don’t use it” Bruce Sweden: “Compression is for little kids” It destroys dynamics! It causes ear fatigue!! IT CAUSES UNNATURAL WAVE BEHAVIOUR!!! Etc.

You guys put out so much great content that it´s mindboggling. Like seriously without your playlist for mixing I wouldn´t have gotten into university!
Glad we could help!
Thank you for this video! Can you please make a similar video for EQ in detail? It would be much appreciated. :)
I’d love this too!!

A long sales pitch, how frustrating!! Thought I was going to learn how to use compression.

You need to grow a moustache like Riley from Linus Tech Tips. :D
Where is the course ??

Isn't step 4 a part of step 1, making something that stands out less obvious?
