  • In this video I install the DEI Heat Shield kit on my dad's 2021 Honda Pioneer 1000-5 to keep the engine heat out of the cab. Previously the Pioneer was miserably hot to ride in but with this new mod it is finally enjoyable. Check it out!

Yeah man, I've heard quite a few stories about how hot these things can be. I think for 2024 they did something like what you did from the factory. Too bad it took this long to fix the issue from the factory. Glad your old man can use his machine now. $110 is nothing to spend when it comes to comfort!

yeah, its unbelievable how hot it gets in that cab. I suppose its not terrible with an open cab but probably still pretty warm. The seat even gets really hot to the touch. I feel like that's something Honda could have easily notice and dealt with during testing on this machine. Oh well, glad there is a simple and affordable fix for it.

Thank you so so much for this great video. We have struggle so with the heat coming up off the engine. Even burns our hands if we touch the seat belt clips. Now we can install this and enjoy the ride. Been shaking our heads as to why Honda ATV doesn't install the heat shield at the factory? They have to know this is a huge issue in their side x sides.

Yeah. It’s wild that they test drove these things and didn’t notice that the heat was almost unbearable.

This video was very helpful when I installed this heat shield. The shield works as advertised and I would recommend it. The manufacturer should add insulated tape for the joints otherwise this is a good product.

Next time on them clips with the small center. Push in and they will release and then you reset it once its out by pushing the center back out

I have 2 Honda pioneers a 500 and 700. The 700 has insulation under seat and still gets hot

What brand doors and cab is this?

I believe it’s a Honda factory cab. It looks pretty good but there are a few issues that we need to address with it like leaks, squeaks and getting the bed to dump properly. We are going to work on all of these things in the future.

Great video , but I'm wondering how do you check the dip stick and add oil for the sub trans ? Is there an access hole ?

    • @FilthyKnobsOffRoad
      @FilthyKnobsOffRoad  5 місяців тому

Remove the seat cushion and then remove the plastic panel underneath that. It should expose the sub trans and the dip stick is on top off center a bit

I have a 2021 model also. Do you know if the upper rubber piece that is behind the seat back was part of the cab enclosure ? Mine only has the mid section piece that has the straps that wrap around the tube where the seat back bolts to.

I believe that is part of the cab enclosure. Not completely sure because we bought it with the cab installed.

Did that can fit on my 2022 honda pioneer 1000-5 trail edition?

I’m really not sure. I know that it says that it’s made for pioneers up to 2021. They did update the pioneer in 2022 but I’m not sure if the seat area has changed. I know you can buy heat shield material and cut your own fairly easily.

So after I installed my heat shield all of a sudden after driving the vehicle for 30 minutes or so when I shut her off for quick stop I can’t start it. . There’s something going on with the fuel system. I played around with the connection to the fuel pump and lo and behold it started up after a little bit. Just curious if anybody else has a similar problem and has any idea what the remedy may be. I think the heat shield is warming up the connections for the fuel pump and possibly losing contact someplace. Please let me know if you have any suggestions and thanks for any help!

Haven’t heard anything about that issue. If that was the case you would think the engine would shut off while driving not after you turn it off and then back on. Maybe a wire got pulled out of the connector when installing the heat shield? I’d double check all the wiring first.

Thank you for your feedback! I will check the wiring for continuity.

Pull the fricken doors and windshield off and use it like it's meant to be used. Its a sxs, not a damn Jeep.
