I consider myself a good catching coach. But Next Level Catching Academy is fabulous. This old dog has learned many new things! I recommend Next Level Catching Academy videos to ALL catching students!
with an actual pitcher is it possible to work the pitch from outside in to the plate when the pitcher isn't as accurate? I understand doing it when you are calling an outside, inside or low pitch, but since it's pre pitch it won't work unless he hits his spot right?
So, the glove hand is actually going further outside than the incoming pitch, then coming back to receive it? And it's the glove side elbow that brings it back, correct?
I would like to ask about the angled receiving drill at about the 8:45 mark...is the machine actually coming in from an angle through the LH batters box or is the catcher just at an angle and the ball coming straight in from the regular direction? I can't quite tell and either way what is this teaching point of this? Thank you and great work again.
Another question: When would you choose to stick that low outside(on a RH hitter) fastball vs when would you choose to "cradle" as you called it here, that pitch that you are working on in the first receiving drill? Thanks again!
It really just takes feel and instincts for the catcher to make that decision. Much of receiving depends on how the umpire prefers to see pitches and call strikes, so making early observations on what he calls and doesn't call is super important. We want to be great at all the different receiving techniques so that we can use whichever technique wins more strikes.
All of our coaches played college baseball, most were all-conference at mid level colleges. Three of us played professionally, but even more important than that is our ability to teach and challenge catchers. Even some well-known catchers that played professionally can catch, but not necessarily teach effectively to the teenage or college catcher.
@@NextLevelCatchingAcademy I have been teaching young players catching for about 2 years now my son was obviously my first student and at only 5' tall has made the varsity team as a freshman because of the drills we have learned from your channel. Since then, I have taken a small group of young men and have taught them to be defensive catchers. I have zero catching experience actually I played goalie in college. A coach is someone that can learn something and teach it to someone else, having experience helps but you are 100% right on the money just because you are a great player doesn't mean you can be a great coach. Thank you so much for your videos they have helped my son tremendously and also have helped me teach other young men to be proficient in the position.

nice catching drills thanks
U should really have a camp in Louisiana we have a lot of talented catchers down here that would love to participate in this camp
Really wish we could and hope to set ourselves up to travel within a couple years. We get tons of emails like this.

we just turned the catcher, but either method would work.
So, what do we learn catching this way, on an angle that we don't learn from more straight on? Thanks!

Does knowing if it's going to be an outside pitch come to you over time?
Absolutely... Catchers are calling each pitch and location should be given at levels above 12u competition.
I’d like to know how far these coaches went in baseball
