general surgery advice: post-surgery depression is real, and it can feel like regret. it’s not true regret. i had life-saving cancer surgery and felt depression and regret because of the pain and some complications and just how much it changed my life. obviously i didn’t really regret NOT DYING TO CANCER; the brain and body just go through a lot and because of lowered functionality you don’t know how to cope. but it does go away. you just have to get through it. be aware of it and make sure your support system knows about it too.
ala I had the same thing when i had a mastectomy (breast cancer) - i felt regret because obviously i was in pain and i was missing one of my boobs which made me upset and worried that my wife wouldn’t like me anymore (she does still like me haha). I thought I regretted getting the surgery, but obviously I also don’t want to die lmao. It cleared up, however, and I no longer feel regret even though I am still missing a boob (i mean they don’t grow back lol).
My family and friends also laughed at me about it, and told me I was being silly because of course it was a good thing, don’t complain. But after I told them about it, they understood and we’re more supportive. Make sure you tell your family/friends!
I had this after I was circumcised. Thought my life was over without foreskin. By the end of the same month it felt more or less normal.
I second that. I had an emergency surgery after an accident and I almost felt anger towards the doctors that they did not just let me die (I never consented to surgery, because I couldn't) it was all the pain and the weakness from severe blood loss that drove me insane. I felt depressed for month but when I recovered I was really happy that they saved my life and I realised that it was all worth it. But in the moment I couldn't feel happy for being still alive, because life was just too painful... also I was high on morphin like all of the time which probably did not help to get a clear head.
I had my tonsils removed and cried all the time in recovery cuz I wanted my tonsils back... I can’t even see them

i was scared too, it's pretty normal but almost no one talks about it which is a shame. i also sleep on my stomach, i also love hugs, i also was scared! surgery was fine, the nurses were so kind, the pain was extremely minimal, and the worst part was not being able to really look at my results for the first few weeks. so, these are my recommendations!!
1.) get high strength tylenol so you don't have to take oxy
2.) make sure you're with people who will be excited for you
3.) call a friend before and after surgery for support!
4.) they'll probably give you a form of elastic wrap to wear to keep all dressings in place, draw some nipples on it!
5.) get some binge-able shows ready (id recommend the series of unfortunate events because it's wonderful)
6.) drink water with electrolytes more than you think you need because you go through a lot of fluid as your body tries to replace the blood
7.) remember that you'll be okay! this is something you've wanted for a long long time (if you have someone that can express that to you too it helps). the best combatant to uncertainty and anxiety about a major surgery is talking to someone else who knows how much you want this!
8.) remember to be so proud of yourself when you wake up

Ever sense you made the video about you getting top surgery and when you would be getting it I started counting down everyday and just telling my friends that there was 9 days left to 4 days I was just sooooo excited and I’m even more excited now because it just tomorrow!!!
Stressing about stressing is a big mood 😂
congrats man!!! to give you some helpful tips for recovery: 1.) make sure you have a ton of benadryl for the itchiness from the post-op binder/ace bandage. 2.) be prepared for your back to be really sore from sleeping on it/the post-op binder being super tight. 3.) it helped me sleep to put pillows underneath my knees so my feet were elevated. when you’re sleeping at an upright position your feet tend to lose circulation and that was really distracting for me to sleep. 4.) start a new tv show so you’re occupied for a while! also crosswords and sudoku are also great stimulators. 5.) wear super easy clothes to take on and off ie: live in sweatpants. 6.) after the first couple days of recovery are over with start taking little walks for like 5 minutes every hour to keep your blood flowing. 7.) dont overwork yourself! make sure you get enough rest and are keeping yourself hydrated :-)) and GOOD LUCK!! you’ve got this man. so excited for you ❤️ much love

I have a massive fear of things going under my skin, I would call it a phobia but it is rational in a way. I also have anxiety. So since I have this fear, I couldn't imagine myself having top surgery even though I want and need it so badly. Hopefully, your recovery documentation will help me become as prepared and ready as possible.

Best advice I got to calm me down was just it’s happening. There’s nothing you can do except just take it, accept that it’s happening and let it happen. I know it sounds weird because it’s something that you want and of couuuurse you’re excited and want it to happen, but for me, like I’d never been under anaesthetic and I didn’t know how much pain I would be in after and it was scary. So just accepting that there is nothing you can do and your fear isn’t doing anything for you definitely helped me
So, while wat, hing this I was thinking "I'll be thinking of Noah tomorrow" Then I realized. He lives in the UK. I live in America. I don't know what time it is there. He might be surgery at 1 in the morning for me. I'm still gonna think about him and hope everything goes well, I just don't know when he's surgery is my time. I'm going to go look.
(Edit: I FOUND IT! it will be 4:30 am for me....i might wake up (or honestly probably will stay up cause I don't sleep) just for you.....nah I have to wake up at 4 am anyway.)

I am getting the letters from my doctor and therapist to get top surgery soon so this really helped calm my anxiety. I thought I'd have literally no control over anything for some reason but thanks. I'm gonna cry out of pure happiness. Been wanting this for LITERAL YEARS!! Can't wait to live my life finally :D
