Captain America: Civil War is exactly what Batman v Superman should've been.
+Digital Knight Amen
+Digital Knight true dat ;)
+Digital Knight quite literally tbh...
maybe YOU'RE THE DC FANBOY
+Digital Knight the last act in civil war was so unexpected and awesome. It could have been easily another team up with 3 heroes against a bad guy and those 5 villains but instead it became way more intense by friend against friend
Fun fact.
Spider-Man in Civil War had more lines of dialogue than Superman in Batman v Superman. Tom Holland had 47 lines, Henry Cavill had 43.
+Commander_Ninja To be fair Spiderman character is supposed to be talking a LOT even when he should shut up.
+rapsody230 But a side character had more lines than a title character, who in retrospect was a side character in his own movie.
+rapsody230 That's no excuse. Spider-Man wasn't a titular character in CW (merely appearing in two scenes), and Superman is the entire focus of the film in BvS.
Ronster822 I agree, it was just worth noting.
Commander_Ninja not much of a difference
SPOILERS: Thank you guys for going in depth about Zemo! I've actually heard people say that they loved Civil War but felt that Zemo was an unnecessary and lackluster villain, and I'm like "Open your eyes!!!" He is the theme of the movie made manifest; the instrument of their destruction which THEY created. He broke the Avengers apart, and he didn't need magic, an alien/robot army, or an Infinity Stone to do it. When that guy asks him how it feels that everything he planned failed and he answered "Did it?" I LOST MY SHIT! You realize that he won, because by the end of the movie they're still broken and divided. I also believe this movie will serve as an origin story of sorts for Zemo, and that we may see more of him in the future... ~_~
+Majin Sole My only problem with Zemo being the Villain is that he isn't this small time in the comics and its even debatable if he isn't more dangerous then the Red Skull.
It felt like there wasn't a need for Zemo to be Zemo other then the name drop, he could have been just anyone and the movie would have been the same.
+Riko Wolfin who knows, maybe there's still a chance to see a more comic book-like Zemo. O mean, he did survive the film. Besides, I think that just like this movie, it's nothing like the comics, but it was just amazing in its own way. The same can be said about Zemo. This isn't Zemo from the comics, just like this isn't Civil War from the comics, but I really liked him. (maybe future masters of evil leader?)
ComanderScar The thing is that while Civil War isn't the same as the comics its still the same basic story with the same basic characters, they don't change into completely different iterations of themselves between mediums.
But with Zemo here he isn't anything like the Baron, hell he isn't even a Baron in this! He doesn't even seem like a bad guy ether, he was even ready to die for the things he did so its hard to see him go from that to the villain that puts together the masters of evil ( Because he doesn't do things because evil ) or making plots to take over the world as shown with murdering the five super soldiers that might have been stronger then Bucky and Capt.
Maybe he could come back when the Avengers reform to put together a team that is focused on destroying them but even then its kinda hard to see this version of Zemo doing that.
Riko Wolfin maybe, but he still could become the Zemo from the comics. Eventually. Besides, we have to see how as a villain for this movie he was great. Maybe not as Zemo, but I loved him.
ComanderScar As a villain he wasn't that great, the great thing about him was how nothing he really was and how he didn't do anything spectacular because he couldn't and didn't want to do anything spectacular, he just wanted to hurt the people that hurt him and he did that.
He is great as a plot device to get everything set up for movies like black panther and spider-man but as a villain you could have stuck any random military guy and he would have served the same purpose, there wasn't a reason for him to be Zemo and thats the problem.
DC: "I'm Batman!"
Marvel: "I don't care."
"I'm Batman."
Civil War: "I'm a better movie than you."
How It Should Have Ended better have some kind of reference to that between Batman and Black Panther
+Eddie the Head MARTHAAA!!!!
Niokolay Dimitrov STELLLAAAAAA!!!!!
+ZoanBlade90 That wasn't funny...
''I don't discriminate race, religion. I just hate all people'' I feel Rob on a personal level.
+PetriN94 I agree. I don't hate the people I care for, but I'm misanthropic. To many who know me, they know this. But to a lot of new people who meet me they don't know. But I just don't like the human race. I think we as a species are overrated. We've had plenty of good things/achievements. But that is no excuse for the bad/terrible things we've done or are doing currently.
So yeah, I completely understand Rob as well.
+Neil Ganti Edgy.
I agree on this point.
So much agreement!
Oh, good. You people. I hate this new "it's cool to be misanthropic" trend. It's fine if you are, but it doesn't inherently make you cooler or more intelligent.
I wish people would stop thinking Aunt Mae is too young. She's old enough to be a contemporary teenagers Aunt. 40-50 year old. How many women that age have poodle perms and grey hair, walking around in a cardigan? In fact MY mother doesn't even dress that old in her sixties! It's have to be his Grandma or Great Grandmother to style that old. She's not "cool aunt Mae", she's a middle aged women, who isn't being held to twenty year old fashion standards.
+Princeducielruka Marisa Tomei isn't too young to be an aunt. She's portrayed as too young to be THE Aunt May. It is part of the character that she is old enough for Peter to be worried about her health fairly constantly. And, it is part of Aunt May's character that she's so old that she's too conservative to accept his powers or heroics. (Or, at least Peter worries she is.)
You can be conservative and have bad health while being younger. Those are not age mile stones. Also not wanting your teenage nephew to run head first into danger is a thing! My Dad at the same age had health issues and my brothers antics certainly made us worry once or twice that he'd triggered a stroke or heart attack. Still not buying that Aunt Mae has to be old enough to be his great grandmother to make sense.
+David Harshman read ultimates?
people are just kicking off because in the Civil War comic she was an old woman in a relationship with Jervis (who at the time was Tony's butler and not an AI), in fact most versions are an old helpless woman, even in all the films (Toby's trilogy). Fanboys just hate the change.
*May
favorite line
Toney "Do you even remember them?"
Bucky "I remember them all."
Finally someone brings up that line...I watched it again yesterday and that line really got to me..It shows that all of his kills still haunts him
Will Silapheth You can see even though he runs from Toney and fights he never blames him or tries to talk him down.
+Corn Bread its Tony btw.
jinofthethunder thank you my bad.
Corn Bread np
The drink containers gave me a giggle.
Mug. Generic water bottle. Mug, mug, and then just a basic metal flask. It's so out of place it's great.
I don't understand why people wanted Captain America to die like the comic. We all know he'll return during Infinity War. Killing Cap off would be pointless & cheap shock value.
my friend believes he will die in infinity war part 1 and will be the rallying cry into part 2
+winterwolf211 even superman didn't die in bvs.
+Seth B it's my theory too, and bucky takes the shield in part 2
Seth B Cap won't die in Part One. He's in Part 2.
pointless & cheap shock value describe civil war perfectly.
Nobody pointed out that Dean Pelton was there. meaning the universe of Community happens in the MCU
LOL
+The Juan Mendoza OML IF THAT BECOMES A THING!!!!!
+The Real Traitor Holy shit. Abed was in winter's soldier too. MIND BLOWN!!!
OH MY GOODDDDDDDDDD
+The Juan Mendoza the russos directed some community so yes they are dropping some of their friends in. surprised they haven't squeezed dan harmon in somewhere.
BUT..... AQUAMAN'S IN THE MOVIEE!!!
Angry Joe: SHUT THE HELL......UP!
cyborg...??
+Leon JO No, Zack, no.
+Leon JO
Hellooooo....
TheNoobofHearts
UUUUUGGGHHH!!!...
But... WE HAVE DOOMSDAY IN THE MOVIE
+Northreyar Also Aquaman!
+Northreyar Also Jimmy Olse- wait nvm
Don't forget cyborg!
Also the flash and Wonder Woman
Spider-Man man speaks more in his 15 minutes of fame than supes in his entire movie... This is actually true
And more than Tobey's Spider-Man in his entire Trilogy. Lol.
It's hilarious that this is actually true 😂
If I saw Superman and Captain America die in the same year knowing full well that both would come back, I think I would die a little inside. Bravo, Marvel. Deaths aren't the only way to achieve a dramatic conclusion. Do it when it serves the story you're trying to tell.
+Tommy North
Hey, they're just following what comics do often enough, kill of characters randomly for a dramatic moment!
Well, FINALLY! A critically-acclaimed 2016 film everyone loves that Doug DOESN'T think sucks or is just "good"!
I know right!
+Awesomo Finally, he stopped having a different opinion you don't like, thank god. Do you feel oh so validated?
Me: Wasn't Zootopia incredible?!
Doug: It was good..
Me: FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU
The scene with Sam and Bucky sitting in the car smiling like dumbasses at Steves kiss with Sharon was perfectly on spot.
Buckys thoughts: Seems like the little boy who was nervous around women finally grew up huh ;)
Sams thoughts: HEY HEY HEY goooood job man, was about damn time xD
I would have loved a scene with the two teasing Cap over Sharon.
I think the 50 year old aunt is much better than the 70 old aunt we got in the original Spiderman movies. 1. It probably means that Ben wasn't quite old enough to retire, so she will probably have to have a job for awhile and it might push Peter to have to get a job to help support her. One of the best things about Spiderman is that he has to juggle other things with his superheroing, and this could push him to work for the Bugle by his second movie.2. It makes more sense age wise to have an aunt around the age of his parents. This makes it so that she probably had a better relationship with her sister/brother and would have been more likely to take Peter in.3. If/when they want to do a storyline with Aunt May, she will most likely be alive and healthy enough to act. And if they decide to do one of the "Aunt May falls for the villain" storylines, the villain will be closer to her age as well.
I don't understand people saying Tomei is too young. Yes, in the comics she's much older, but as I understand it she's supposed to be about the same age as Peter's parents. Tom Holland is 19 playing an even younger Peter. Tomei is 51. That would put Peter's parents at roughly 30 when they had Peter. Is that really so implausible for people? Honestly, the way she's portrayed in the comics she looks more like Peter's great-aunt.
+firefly4f4 I think the problem is she doesn't look 51, she looks way younger. Personally I was surprised when I learned she is over 50 years old.
I am TOTALLY on board with Marisa Tomei as Hot Aunt May
So is Tony
zack snyder talking about Cap Civil war
What is up with the Avengers hate Rob? My favorite quote about this movie is ''it is not great in spite of being the 13th marvel movie, it is great because of that''. This movie wouldn't have been nearly as sweet if we didn't have multiple fun, lighthearted movies about these guys. It is like The Dark Knight Returns. It is not just the story that makes it great, it is all the stories we have seen with Batman before, so when we see this way darker turn it is both refreshing and cool.
This movie was so awesome even Doug Walker liked it. No insult to Doug I still think he's awesome.
I'm a DC fan. More so than Marvel. And this makes me cry to see this happen to DC over and over again...
Man of Steel? Boring.
BvS? You've got to be kidding me.
Suicide Squad? Tolerable, at best.
Godspeed, Geoff Johns. It's up to you now...
Seriously though, Civil War was excellent.
I feel you
I'm not entirely sure whether I like this more than Age of Ultron, but damn I struggle to think of any problems I have with this film. I even love the villain, which so far has only happened with Loki, Ultron, Fisk and Kilgrave. Frankly I can understand the people calling it Marvel's best.
oh yes! this movie did three things right:
-Handled an ensemble cast very well
-Did the villain really well. he is easily the best they have. he broke the Avengers!
-Great writing and characterization ( especially Black Panther)
+Egie Asemota The cheorography in the fight scenes!!! FREAKING GALORE!!!!
and what i love is they respected both fans of the comics and the people who have just watched the MCU...
both communities can enjoy this movie to the fullest!!!!
age of ultron is a mess for me. The story is so simple, it has cool fight scenes in it but nothing really compelling to me. I think bvs and age of ultron are on the same level for me. Civil war did such a better job
I can't agree with that at all. To me BvS has no coherent themes or story for as complex as its plot is, whereas AoU has a relatively straightforward plot but themes that have a solid bearing on the characters (who are likable where BvS' aren't) and ideas that reward you for looking at them deeper.
***** wait chill chill. Only because a movie is simple doesnt mean i hate it. You can enjoy those movies in a firework kinda way.
Aunt May is 51. She's not THAT YOUNG. When I think if aunts, I always think of young aunts anyway. I always wondered why Aunt May was so old.
+Hunter VanderZwaag She has to be older than 51. Because in order for her to be 51, she would have had to have Richard Parker at the age of 18, then Richard would have had Peter by the time he was 18. 18+18+15=51 because Peter starts off bitten at the age of 15. It's a little unrealistic to say that they had to have had kids at 18, or at least both of them.
+aghostshell She is Richard Parker's Sister in law, not mother...
BlueDwarfMC I confuse the two all the time because usually it's the woman that takes on the man's last name, rarely the other way around, but either way just replace the names and the math still adds up that she's probably older than 51.
DC: Can you put your seat up?
Marvel: NO
DC: I really hate you.
dc: you need to change your tone!
+Jeremy Villaroman
DC-WB: *finally makes a really good comic book movie*
Fans: Why didn't you do that sooner?
DC-WB:..I hate you.
+Jeremy Villaroman DC: "Why does it always have to be 'Marvel, Marvel, Marvel!"
dena81 you are awesome
Its Zack Synder from the BVS review!
I was always confused about how 15 yea old Peter Parker has an 80 something year old aunt, who was still alive and actually doing shit when he's 25 or so. Marisa Tomei is in her 50s so it makes a lot more sense to me, especially going forward.
My Grandmother on my Mother's side had 5 sisters, and I called them all "Aunt". So I grew up with old ladies as aunts and it never occurred to me to question why Aunt May was so old. I thought all Aunts were old.
+Blake F Well, haven't you ever heard of great aunts before? I presumed that was what Aunt May was to Peter. At least in those incarnations.
+RyanX1231 Nope, it was established at some point that Uncle Ben and Peter's dad were brothers.
Oh my god! Its Zack Snyder in the middle! And he sounds here even more like himself
I'm fine with Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. I think in Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, Aunt May kind of the same like in this movie. It was not the old grandma Aunt May and it's make sense for me bcuz I think the chemistry will make more sense with very young Peter Parker and 45-50s Aunt May and I'm fine with that. I'm done with all the older style Aunt May and now we get fresh with new take on the character, really excited for Spider-Man Homecoming.
This talk makes me realize how much the MCU NEEDS Dr. Doom.
If the Marvel can get back the rights to Dr. Doom, the MCU will have the villain it needs to really shake things up.
+FrankLightheart marvel vs capcom MOVIE
we need wesker
and MAX from assist me
SMOSHOO You know what: a movie like that would be totally awesome, but I think a concept like that would work best as a cartoon movie.
It would be fun with lots more action and we wouldn't need to take it too seriously. Then we also won't have to worry about actors or who owns what property.
team assist me vs ?
SMOSHOO Okay, I think I'm a little too outside the Marvel vs Capcom gaming culture to understand what you're asking for.
FrankLightheart look up marvel vs capcom 3 assist me
sibling rivalry review????????????????????
They said there not doing it, cause they said pretty much all they wanted to here!
+ivan denona I don't like this new show, I wish nostalgia critic did reviews as he used to
he still does.... every wednesday
Why would a 51-yr-old Marisa Tomei too young to play the aunt of a high schooler?
+Leo Liu She isn't, as long as that high schooler isn't Peter Parker. Aunt May is old in the comics for a reason. It plays a big part in her character.
+David Harshman she wasn't as old in the Ultimate comics, pretty sure thats what they are going for.
Not really...nothing that can't be done with a 50 year old
Yes but she looks so beautiful, even Tony points that is unusual XD
She's been younger/more active in Ultimate Marvel, Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, Garfield movies...
Personally, I liked the younger Aunt May. It never made much sense to me that his mother's sister would be roughly 30-40 years older than her. The comics always made her look more like his grandmother rather than his aunt. Which could work because I could see someone wanting to be called Aunt rather than Grand-mom all the time. But then the comics pointed out that she was his mothers sister after that the Grand-mom type just didn't work anymore, especially not for a young teenage Peter.
+Jason Norris Correction ..Aunt Bae.
GritsnBeans Huh? His Aunt's name is May Reilly Parker
white america's worst nightmare Ahh, as in Aunt Babe. Okay, brain being a little slow this morning.
Am kind of curious how Bae came to mean that. I mean if you look it up it actually mean excrement in some languages.
+Jason Norris Its pretty interesting that in a movie with Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Emily VanCamp, everyone is talking about how freaking hot Aunt May was. And we only saw her head and sitting on a couch. Like... hot damn.
Commander_Ninja lol, agreed. I think in a way it was because she was unexpected for some people. When I went in to the movie I didn't even know she was in it, I knew Spider-Man was in it but I didn't know Aunt May was in it or who was playing her.
I wish the guy who designed Black Panther's suit was the head designer of the Power Rangers movie.
imdb88 Black Panther's suit doesn't have Tron Lines or armor kibble
Marisa Tomei is 51. She's not to young to be peter's aunt.
+Jacob Stewart Right... I don't know why everyone is thinking she's so young??
+Jacob Stewart Although it true that actor is 51 years old
But did you find any normal person with 51 years old look like that she look like in late 30-40 if no one tell her age who can guess
I loved the fact that CA: CW didn't pull a Doomsday/Venom trick to try and get everyone fighting on the same side at the end. It was a gutsy twist to have Zemo killing the Super Soldiers rather than reanimating them at the end, that would've been a cliche Marvel happy ending. It also strengthened the Zemo character for me too, he had more centered goals and actually achieved them by the end of the movie with out having to resort to a major collateral damage/disaster porn set up, far more intelligent and satisfying.
The Sokovia accords on their own weren't divisive enough to generate that wedge as a plot device and Zemo's entire plan was an adjustment on a previous step. At the start he was waterboarding the former Hydra Agent for the location of the super soldier serum/winter soldier footage, if he'd got it then he wouldn't have needed Bucky, but he didn't so he posed as Bucky to draw him out and plotted his way in as the Shrink/electromagnet etc. to get what he needed. He arranged that the body and disguise would be found by the arranged call via long distance to the hotel. If he hadn't have got Tony to follow or be mad he was still behind the inpenetrable glass while they were secured in the silo and could've got away or shot himself, had he not planned on black panther being there. Had Tony not followed he probably would've simply fed exed the tape to avengers HQ and adjusted his plan further. These aren't so much happy coincidences as re-evaluating startegies. The thing that did bother me is why the character had to be Zemo, they could have just made a brand new character and saved Zemo for later. Other than that given the overall nature of Comic Book Movies, I'm prepared to put up with a few happy coincidences, I mean we're hardly talking Schindler's List here, just as long as I can't drive articulated lorries through the plot points. Sorry if it faltered too much for you though, peace :)
Captain America didn't actually die in Civil War comic, but in the after comic when he was being prosecuted. But eh,
"I really believe that Captain America and Bucky have a real friendship!" - Rob Walker.... sure, a friendship.... that's what it was
One thing that BvS did better than Civil War is the crowd response. In BvS, there was a lot of people who feared and resented Superman, but there were also some people who thanked and praised him. And at the end the film, there was a great monument that says "If your looking for a Monument, look around you" thereby saying that the people alive are Superman's legacy. But in Civil War, all they concentrated on was the people who hated and resented the Avengers, but never did they once show us fans of the Avengers or the thousands of people in Sokovia who the Avengers did SAVE. Not the family that Iron Man saved in a bathtub, not the people who Captain America and Thor saved from falling over the edge or the mother of the kid that Hawkeye saved and Quicksilver sacrifice himself to protect both of them, not a single sense of gratitude. I know overall it's not that essential, and it did show us the casualties, but I believe showing gratitude, as well as resentment, does give us better perspective.I hope Marvel picks up on this. So that's my opinion on the one thing that DC did better than Marvel. What are you thoughts?
This douche I know who's got a degree in film said the script in BvS was as bad as Steel. If you consider those 2 films equally bad go ahead but even in Steel it had Sparky. But BvS had much better written SCENES. And the R Rated version will be even better written.
+TheGTunit7 Garrett Tatum Wow this was a very good point..i never even considered this stand-point..well done on that brilliant observation
blacksparxdadon thank you very much
Or, we could stop comparing the two and agree that each universe is doing its own unique thing? Just a thought.
+TheGTunit7 Garrett Tatum I totally agree with this. If the Avengers didn't do anything, how many more casualties would there have been? In Winter Soldier, if Cap and company didn't intervene, millions would have died. Like Cap said, you try to save as many people as you can, but that doesn't mean you can save everyone.
It's worth noting that RDJ did this movie even though it's not in his contract, he was brought on from a creative standpoint and agreed to do it because he liked the story. Solid move.

INT. WALT DISNEY STUDIOS, BURBANK - NIGHT
A terrified KEVIN FEIGE approaches a small, shadowy figure with its back to him, sitting atop a throne of gold bars and one hundred dollar bills.
FEIGE: Twentieth Century Fox. They are not the cowering wretches we were promised. They stand. They are unruly, and therefore cannot be ruled.
The figure stands up and Feige bows.
FEIGE: To challenge them, we must court...Deadpool.
The figure turns slightly, coming into the light and revealing itself to be MICKEY MOUSE, a shit-eating grin on his face.
The only complaint I could think of about Civil War was that Vision felt like a near no-show for much of the actual battle. It was just weird for such a powerful character to feel so useless for so much of that battle...especially considering his action earlier in the movie and his error towards the end of that battle.
Am I the only one that really wants to see Doctor Strange?
nope✌✌
+famineinfernal1 It could be the Guardians of this year, look at that cast
+famineinfernal1 Nope I'm looking very much forward to it.
It does look pretty cool. I'm mostly excited about Benny being in the MCU. Mostly because he's no stranger to geekdom on the big screen.
+Michelle Lehto The guy who plays Dr. Watson on Sherlock was in Civil War. Half of me just wants him and Benedict to meet up in the movie because I know they were also both in a Hobbit movie, I haven't seen it but I know they were.
Chris Evans actually texted Hayley Atwell after Peggy's funeral scene, "I'm so sad today, you just died."
On the subject of "Aunt MILF"
May Parker is supposed the be the wife of Ben Parker (Uncle Ben). Ben Parker is Richard Parker's brother. Richard and Mary had a son (Peter) in their late-20's or early 30's. Peter Parker is 16 in Captain America: Civil War. If Ben and May were only 2 or 3 years older than Richard and Mary, that would put Ben and May in their late 40's to early 50's. Marisa Tomei is 51 years old. She is very attractive, but that doesn't change the fact that she is the perfect age to be Aunt May. Portraying Aunt May as a 70 - 80 year old "grandmother" type role is more unbelievable than Marisa Tomei.
Skip to 2:16 to actually see the start of the review section. Everything before is boring BS.
+Guypersonmanthing3 Thanks, mate
I went into Civil War never having seen a single Cap.Am. movie, not having seen Ultron, never having read the comics. It still got me. I still understood all the things they were talking about. That's how refined the pacing is in this one. Also, as complicated as everything looks, the story is actually very simple, and that simplicity shone brightly throughout the film.
Thank, film, for taking the time to tell me an awesome story.
Awesome to hear that. I think the reason they say otherwise in this video is because they all saw the other films and saw that there were callbacks.
+Dragon Sword just to be clear I am agreeing with Doug here in saying it should have become a mess but wasn't
+eating raw faces is my least favorite thing to do. Recently did. Yeah it was pretty good.
my dad built the stair case in the action scene
Woah, seriously?
ya he works on marvel movies
+Maria Kaleigh My friend and I was talking about how many people were involved in making it while we waited for the post cred. scenes. ... Nice set your dad helped make, btw.
My 50th cousin played Spider-Man
+Steven Kollin YOU ARE RELATED TO TOM Holland THAT IS AWESOME
Tomei must be loving the "too young" comments xD also I am used to cool aunt may since some of the cartoons had a less grandma aunt may and more active matured woman aunt may
I hope Zemo comes back for a Thunderbolts movie
I hope he forms the Masters of Evil.
32:20 I love when the guy on the right gets fed up with the dude on the left ripping the previous movies like they are bad. LOL
DC should have gotten Bruce Timm to write BvS. He's already done two great stories dealing with the theme of people being afraid of superheroes, the Cadmus arc on Justice League, and Justice League: Gods and Monsters.
+KingOfMadCows problem is, even today animation is still underestimated and is considered kids stuff, that is not what producers want in their dark, gritty and joyless DCCU, that's the main reason the first directors of flash and aquaman walked out on the projects saying they had to many creative disagreements.
I'm hoping for Gods and Monsters 2. And I'm hoping it'll feature Doomsday.
Everyone always talks about cap dying in Civil War comics, but I have them all and he is still alive in the end. He gets arrested at the end, not shot. Him getting shot happens AFTER Civil War.

I agree with you on your list except I would switch avengers and ant man.
Hell, I like totally agree, perfect list
2:52 Well Doug, it's actually quite simple. When the people making the movie actually CARE about their film, this is what happens. It's a collaborative effort that requires every person on set to be as passionate as the next. For some reason, I get the feeling this is more of a job to the people involved at this point. They're pretty much set for life, I doubt they'd continue if they didn't care.
I think that I like it better that Cap didn't die exactly because it wouldn't feel like one of those classical comic book hero deaths that are supposed to shock people.
It would really just have soured the experience and degraded the message that you can stand what you believe in and still be friends with those that disagree with you. Which is something that I need cuz of how a friend and me recently broke up after a rather political argument. Not that I think that my friendship can get back together (all bridges were burned there), but knowing that even though that friendship is gone for what I think, not all friendships are that flimsy.
If Steve Rogers died, we'd have gotten the pathos, but at the cost of the tone of the rest of the movie.
EDIT: Also, a lot of people talk about this movie as though this encompassed the whole of Civil War. It may be called "Civil War", but it only sets up the beginning. Civil War can be neatly split between when they are all still in disagreement, but not bloodthirsty and everything that happens after the Thor-Clone kills Goliath.
If you killed Captain America, you'd have that same tonal shift of the death of Goliath, but none of the build-up or pay-off. Right now, we are still building up the stakes of the disagreement between one side and the other on good terms. In the movies to come, we can set the tone for what happens when one side goes too far.
One of my nitpicks about the movie is that the examples Ross uses to show the Avengers of their destruction isn't really all that convincing once you think about it. Without their intervention, New York would be a nuclear wasteland, a lot of people would have been shot down by those helicarriers in DC, you can blame Tony for Ultron but let's not forget that Ultron was about to drop a meteor on Earth before they stopped him. Oh and without Wanda's intervention in Civil War, a lot of people would've died on the ground too so it's really not her fault. Also, how are the Sokovia Accords supposed to fix all this?
+EX7Sonic Yeah that was my thought on that scene too. Especially with the helicarriers from Winter Soldier - how the hell was any of that Cap's fault (or any other Avenger's)? That was all SHIELD/Hydra's fault. And what exactly was the alternative solution - just wait for them to kill millions of people?
Exactly and the more I think about it, the only reason they were able to take down Hydra there was BECAUSE Cap was operating without government regulations.
+Philippe Gabriel I both see all your points, and agree with the premise that you are sharing about Ross, and the government's position; however, It is EXACTLY how real governments would react. Not that they were in the wrong saving all those people, but who gave you the right to come into our country in the first place. governments want to control everything, and the nature of this MCU and any super-powered reality is that the heroes first and primary motivation is to save and protect, not comply, and petition.
+Romelo1988 Having said that, believe me I am NOT agreeing with the Ross position. It is the nature of the hero to run toward danger, when he/she sees the danger!
True but remember that this is coming from a villian, so obviously he'd fudge the truth about things, it is very clear he's not a big fan of the Avengers.
Hey Walker Bros, just a note! The "choppy" look that the fight scenes have are most likely achieved by increasing the shutter speed over normal. It doesn't actually drop frames. It helps by making every frame clear with no motion blur, as you guys mentioned.
My absolute favorite movie in the MCU!
Zemo just wasn't the same to me without the royal garb and the purple spandex mask. Imagine the gritty tone of his presence in the movie but with the old costume. Nobody would question it, for nobody questions Baron Zemo
The King of the Penguins I hope he gets to wear the costume in a future movie.
I like Aiyanna Wade's leather jacket. Looks pretty damn cool.
She's hot too
Who wants extra road trip scenes with Capt, Bucky, and Falcon in the VW on the DVD?
Im not used to seeing Doug praising a movie this much.
+W-James For a comic book movie, no less. I was beginning to think nothing would impress him anymore.
I'm more shocked Rob enjoyed it as much. He's been a bit of a downer when it comes to the mcu movies so much that it's gotten annoying.
I rewatched this recently and I still love this movie. It's my 2nd favorite film from 2016. I'm also impressed with what they had to do in this film and they made it work. It wasn't a clusterfuck, the action was excellent, and the acting was top notch. While some characters aren't necessary story wise like Antman, Spider-Man, or Hawkeye. They still did entertaining bits with them so your like. "I know your not exactly necessary but I don't care!" I also think is Zemo is one of Marvels best villains yet in what he represents and unlike most villains he achieved what he wanted at the end.
Best MCU movie so far, but my problem is the movie edges you into supporting Cap, but I was with Tony the whole time and the ending only cemented it for me... Sorry Doug Tom Holland blows Andrew Garfield out of the water.
Well it is caps movie so that is justified its not supposed to be fully on ironmans side
J- Rich I wasn't, sure the accords are extreme and Ross is a asshole, but he does have a point. If Wanda can kill a dozen people by accident while trying to save one dude and Vison can accidentally paralyses a guy he wasn't even aiming at.
I won't even go into what Bucky did but regardless he does deserve to be locked up if he not even gonna faced his crimes.
Really they should just called it *Marvel's Civil War* but Cap needed a trilogy...
Li-Li Mandragon
eh in the movie's defense they don't solely put one side in the wrong i was team cap in the beginning of the film but as i watched it i do see where tony is coming from that superheroes need to be put in check but like like cap i do believe the government would put restrictions on where they could/could not fight and more people would die in those areas they would not act.
J- Rich I wanted to agree with Cap but I hated Bucky even at he start of the movie and Tony got Spidey (my favorite) on his side. And in the ending I was happy to let Tony rip Bucky a new asshole
I like Garfield a lot more then Mgguire but I found Holland a good middle ground
I love the fact that everyone else is drinking coffee and water while Rob is just drinking from a flask.
But... But... WE GOT SPIDERMAN IN THE MOVIE!!!
+Scrubman lowell you make my day XD hahahaha
Lol difference is, we wanted Spidey. Didnt groan when it was mentioned. I hope the rumor of Snyder getting phased out and replaced by Afleck is true
LMAO at your avatar bro. read your post with Homer's voice
I know Marissa Tomei seems young, but she's 51 so that's more than old enough to be an aunt to a 19-year-old Tom Holland.
wait... Spiderman fighting a wacky giant insect-based adversary? Did they actually do a homage to the 80s japanese tokusatsu TV series?
1:05:02
They were half right on that. Look what happened this year.
53:42 What do you think Marvel is doing right that DC is doing wrong...Everything! Nailed it!
+J- Rich it's so pathetic that DC adapted one of their best comics (DKR) into a movie and it turned out to be complete fucking dog shit, Marvel adapted one of their worst comics ever published (CW) and it turned out to be their best movie
+grkpektis
ikr! Civil war is the only comic from marvel i wasnt really a fan of and the dark knight returns is not my favorite but definately in my top 10 and Civil war was the 10x better movie
+grkpektis the only problem i have with civil war was i still think cap or someone should have died but the movie still works way better then batman v superman and for me is the best mcu film right now
How old are you? 6?
+Miss X I wish then I probably could enjoy dc movies more
I watched this movie yesterday, and it has the heart and soul of the comic in a different well-organised story. I was totally invested in this movie; I also feared this movie would finish with an open ending, but when "the final third" was close (climax of the Avengers battle) I realised there was half an hour left; I think that's Marvel magic in the majority of their movies, they perfectly manage to tie everything into quarters (Intro, two-act conflict and ending). Besides, it had a perfect kind-of-a-open ending which suggests Avengers 3, I loved this movie.
I don't think Marvel will die like they say they will. The superhero movie craze probably will, but Guardians of the galaxy was more like a sci fi action comedy. It was about as much of a superhero movie as the original ghostbusters movie. Jessica Jones talked about superheros but there weren't any in the show. It was a noir with a supernatural twist. Marvel has LOADS of different comics they can adapt. Not all comic book movies need to be superhero movies. Just look at 300.
I'm with Rob on this---the humor when they're all fighting made the split seem less divisive. i mean even with Clint and Nat and Steve, the ones for whom the split would be the most emotionally divisive, it was all "We're still friends right?" and "I'm gonna regret this aren't I?"
54:16 Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING Rob Walker said after this point are just words of wisdom. I don't even consider it a personal opinion, they are FACTS.
+Commander Shepard It's funny, I agree with every thing he says too. Even when I try not to.
And now we also find out that Doug loved Creed. YEEEEEES.
i honestly think that the 30-45 min of screen time spiderman had.... i think that this is the best on screen spiderman ive seen yet. i can see where people are coming from saying he talks too much and whatnot but that is one of the things that i love about him. this just makes me want to see a spiderman/deadpool tie in movie even more.
I wasn't expecting much from this movie by the first trailer, I was more excited for Star Wars and BvS. Sure enough, I was heavily disappointed with both of them, and this movie blew me away.
I expected Spider-Man to shine in this movie, and I love Ant-Man, but I walked out thinking Black Panther was the star of this movie, the ultimate badass.
You gotta love when a movie really surprise you, and this one absolutely did. I look forward to the Black Panther movie.
when the killing joke comes out this summer will you guys make a review from it :)?
@41:05 I am that guy Rob. I haven't read any comics and avoided all trailers for this movie to prevent spoilers, and I had that exact reaction when the son of the king became black panther (who I didn't even know was an actual superhero). It was such a cool moment when this random guy in a black suit shows up hunting down Bucky, and then after getting caught takes off his mask to reveal he's the son of the king, making his line about killing the man responsible for his father's death really sink in. I gotta say avoiding all trailers and even the comics is the best way to go into these movies when you know you're going to buy the ticket anyways.
doesn't make it any less exciting for those of us who have followed the comics for years. To finally see Black Panther on screen and done right is quite exciting
LaughingOwlKiller I didn't mean it in a way where you can't fully appreciate the movie after reading the comics. I just meant its cool to not know the original story because that way the whole thing is new.
...I don't know why you guys are so down on 50-year-old Marisa Tomei being the "hot" "young" aunt. How old do you thing aunts generally are? Does "aunt" mean "second grandma" to you? I've got a niece Peter's age and I'm 26. Given Peter's age, I'd expect his aunt to be in her late thirties/early forties at the oldest.
...early 50s
probably because of the way she is drawn in the comics looks closer to the Raimi casting.
Phil V ...Duh.
Spider-Man: SHAZAM!
Shazam: get your own line
Big paragraph.
As a big Marvel (and DC) fan, I love the movie way more than the comic. That is because I prefer heroes to have hard times but not change to completely different characters. If that is about to happen anytime then always make it be a what if story. Not the main one.
Ironman in this movie was so heartbroken and then went full avenging character in the end and it was so well demonstrated. Captain America was really the most senile and calm person in the whole movie. He has seen what Hydra did and others like them can do. He also knew that Bucky did those things but must not be pummeled by Ironman. What's the point of be an enforcer of justice and peace if you are gonna pummel everyone like a tyrant, like a rageful monster Ironman was about to become. The point is to arrest and stop them without the act of this taking a heavy toll on your values.
Now that I rewatch the past MCU phases they really did all of these characters Justice with this movie. Not all these heroes took the problem seriously, nor there was a heavy politics view in their dialogues which was the specific magic the movie has for me.
Ant-Man helped because he was a fan of Cap and had a past with Falcon
Spiderman had literally his first appearance in the suit (which explains why he loses against Captain) and wants to prove himself upon the characters he loves as the kid he is. All of his existence in the movie is a big coming of age and a reference to young Steve Rogers and Ironman's 1 Stark. It was also great of how he sparred with Captain like he was his mentor.
Black Panther. Oh god Russo brothers. Boseman's character is the best among the great highlights in the movie. Instead of being a rageful avenger in the whole movie he had a powerful perception of events. He never attacks Black Widow, nor he interferes in the snow base. Instead he takes his time understanding events and then of how revenge eats you alive and then arrests Zemo. He earns the respect of the audience by having an origin and character development inside a movie that isn't even his own.
Finally I am glad they left Captain's death out of this and instead went directly for Agent Rogers and his team of secret Avengers. Let Captain die as a hero in the Infinity Wars. Not now.
I read everything haha
Emperor Nerd Thanks!
One faithful reader right there!
I would like if the Marvel Cinematic Universe can continue like the James Bond franchise where it can stand the test of time.
19:45, zemo was secretly loki in disguise to destroy the avengers, that's why thor wasn't in the movie, loki wanted to keep thor out of this situation because he figured if they are united, then they will stand, but if they are divided, then they will fall.
Seriously? Where is your source for this info?
+Caden Young it's not true. If it was Loki he'd have no reason to be in disguise around black panther or sit in the hotel room as zemo. Loki is too busy in Asgard being odin
What a time to be alive. Being a comic book nerd for 20 years, even thought this movie is a farcry from the civil war comic, it is believable in the context of the mcu and is actually satisfying to watch how they interpret a 100+ issue comic book line. Batman V Superman was a chore to sit through with the occasional kiss on the ass from Batman to make the pain i was feeling better.
the auntie of a 19yr old kid shouldn't have grey hair. I think the casting choice for aunt may is perfect. + she's hot which is an improvement imo. great review. thumbs up!!!
who at 16 had a 70 yr old aunt? nobody...aunt may is the right age
+DELTABOY04 Aunt May is the wife of Uncle Ben. Uncle Ben is Peter's father's older brother. The age difference is pretty amibiguous considering you can be born to a teenage mother or a mother in her 40's 50's and yes even 60's. And who knows, maybe Uncle Ben likes his women old. The point is that from the very beginning up until this movie, Aunt May was old, gray hair and wrinkles...not a milf.
+DELTABOY04 well kinda not, it's not his mother, any age is ok, but in the comic she was older.
I did. I had, like, 5 of them.
Marisa Tomei is 51 years old and Tom Holland's Peter Parker is at least 17. She would have been in her 30's when Peter was born. I have younger aunts to be honest.
He's 15.
+Monkey D. "Straw Hat" Luffy And he jerks one out
There are some good animated Marvel films. Hulk Vs set, Planet Hulk, and Dr Strange are the best.
next avengers is a guilty pleasure of mine tbh
About Captain America not dying in the movie, he actually did die. By the end of the movie Steve Rogers no longer has the shield, and can't use the name Captain America anymore because of what that name is associated with. So even if Steve is alive, Captain America is very much dead by the end of the movie.
My jaw just dropped to the floor.
I think Malcolm from Nostalgia Critic's team or Black Nerd should have been at this table to bring an African-American point of view.
There were 3 African-American heroes/hotties in Captain America: Civil War when usually there is only one token black guy, and they ALL had their own personalities/motivation/development and were bad-ass in their own unique way.
NONE of them were stereotyped into the "thug-life" role.
And I loved the banter between Cap's new best friend, Sam Wilson/The Falcon, and old best friend Bucky.
I remember everybody walking out after the film ended and they were all saying how happy they were that they saw the film and saying how much they want to see the film again. The last time I walked out of a cinema surrounded by people being so happy that they saw a film was Ant-Man and some people were even applauding as the credits rolled when they revealed the Wasp outfit.
The best MCU movie imo
Yes it is indeed the best "Marvel Universe Cinematic" movie
Yes it is indeed the best "Marvel Universe Cinematic" movie
Kai Jordan I edited it about an hour ago. Idk why it still comes access as "MUC."
+W-James It's because this video is over an hour long. He read your comment before you edited it since he was watching the video for an hour or so.
BK201DarkerThanBlack Its just changed now.
The atmosphere in the theatre, during the civil war movie was amazing because, i also don't like packed theatres but, you could tell during the movie that everyone was having a good time. This was due to the drama, the action and especially the comedy, which they somehow managed to balance it out with the drama and the tension in the movie, and i don't know how they did it but, they made it work.
@57:20 Super hero's controlled/docile by the government......Disney's "The Incredibles" ?
Why can't you let supers just be supers?
4:54
I LOVED when the movie actually paid homage to that image.
I have a prediction... Tony Stark will bang Aunt May.
he and Rhodes will gang bang Aunt May while Peter watches
Fluffypro Spider-Man: 😳
U SUCK Really Peter Parker won’t to see his aunt and Tony and Rhodes getting on he would throw up if that happened
The more I watch this show the more of a crush I develop on Aiyanna. Not just because she's beautiful and totally adorable but because the vast majority of the things she says are the things I would say if I were there. Like I'm thinking it in my head and then when she speaks I'm sitting here like "I was just thinking the same thing!" Got to love a great mind! ;-)
