Some great advice there Mark. Fresh herbs from the supermarket can be divided into new pots, lots of free plants there.

Great idea for a video and excellent points! Another way to get free plants that I've been doing lately: Scroungin'! If you notice any abandoned plots or buildings or something like empty apartment complexes or corporate structures scheduled for demolition, go ahead and have a look around. All those plants are going to just be destroyed anyway, so you might as well rescue them! A lot of these plants are considered weeds anyway. I've gotten two linden trees, two alders, (got the trees as sapling "weeds") a rosemary, poppies, love-in-a-mist, fox and cubs, semper vivum, a rose, wallflower, lavender, gooseberry, currants, sedum autumn joy, geranium, two Japanese maple saplings, strawberry, hazel, Japanese anemone, lily of the valley, and columbines! Not only do I love getting free plants, it pains me to think of them being destroyed, so it's a win win - a win for me and a win for the plants! : )

Mark you always share such great ideas! Plants have become so expensive to buy , I appreciate you sharing some ways to help the budget out! Your garden is looking so lovely! The pond area looks as though it’s been there forever, even though I know you just made it recently. Just gorgeous! Have a great day!🌷🙂🌸

I love your ideas. I always do “plant rescue” and have had great success getting deals and have never been disappointed. I belong to 2 horticultural societies and they are always so generous with free plants etc.

Casualty corner is always my first port of call at garden centres. I rescued a Fatsia from B and M 2 years ago, its was a2 leaf 4 in tall £4 bargain. It’s now 3 ft tall and just as wide!

Great video, beautiful gardens and wildlife pond, They are the bees knees. Five years ago I decided to widen four flowerbeds. I got beautiful topsoil for free off a neighbour who I gave annuals grown from seed every year. I lifted and split loads of perennials that spring to fill the new area.

Hi Nicholas. Thanks for this. That's a kind of swap plants for soil. I need to do a part 2 for free plants and include this. Best wishes. Mark

Your gardens, especially your pond garden, are looking fantastic.
The bartering you do with your elderly neighbor is a win-win. When planning for plant swaps with friends, don't forget to include seed swaps or just giving seeds you've gathered as presents in handmade seed envelopes.

Florida here. Totally into "free" or under $10 plants these days. Some plants just arrive via the air. Some free from fellow gardeners. And just got some dandy begonias and an orchid from the discount section at Walmart. Some like aloes and bird of paradise self-propogate.

Some plants absolutely do just fall out of the air! Haha, or germinate from animal droppings both feathered and not. A few of my favorite backyard plants are just such volunteers including a beautiful loquat tree. 🌱

Hello Florida!!! Amazing. Hi Linda. Yes they do just arrive don't they? My sweet fennel just popped up. It's quite mysterious. Mark

Morning Mark, RHS brought me here on how to move a chantos beauty (rose). Could you please show the rose tree you moved front front of house with your doggie. Or a little say on how it’s doing, I’m giving my rose to a friend as too big for the space I have. I’ve subbed and thanks for the rose tree advise. 🎉

    Great minds think alike 🪴🌱
I divided my big fern in early spring and they are really tall and beautiful. Just taken cuttings from my persicaria fingers crossed they'll take. I took a Fastia cutting and now that produced new shoots.
    Happy gardening Mark 🌴🪴🌱😀
