Some people would ask why we hike in the heat with bothersome flies, bugs and uncomfortableness. Because we love hiking. What a view!!! Oh man, I really feel for both of you today. Water is the essence of life (Dr. Strangelove). With climbing comes altitude and cooler temps hopefully. Stock up on electrolytes. Glad you made it to your Air BnB. I followed Runa on her PCT hike and she said the same thing about the trees and the forest. When you are from the Midwest, we have trees everywhere and being in the desert is not something we are used to. And also the smell of the trees and forest is something to behold. I haven't hiked in the desert but I'm told there are lots of pickers and thorns and sometimes they pierce your sleep pad. Hope the patch works. Keep the faith Sunsets and Chica!!! John from MI
Love your authenticity! Every day is not going to be a great day on the trail. Thank you for showing that there will be good days and bad days. Thank you for not giving up but instead taking a break! Listen to your body and mind and know it’s ok to stop a minute and get off trail. Keep on keeping on. You inspire me. I’m 57 and I’m doing some all day hikes and will do my first weekend trip in 3 weeks near Lake Tahoe. Everyone starts somewhere! Take care out there!
Just found you and subscribed! I’m a local who was hiking in Wrightwood yesterday, June 14, when I ran into another thru-hiker, Trail name Jailbait. He spent the night of the 13th at Cajon Pass too. He’s a youngster at 22 and you two are on the more mature side so hooray for you! I am a 78 year old hiker who will follow the rest of your journey with great interest.
I really enjoy that section just north of Cajon Pass. Even though you can hear the highway, it's such beautiful terrain with a cool mini ridge walk and such, then that big climb is just quintessential PCT: takes like 20 miles to climb 3k feet. Amazing. Some nice women brought us a ton of Del Taco at the water cache when we camped there.
I know the Big Fella does not like the heat, but if you were hiking in Alabama today the temp is 97 with 70% humidity! Ear trouble, lack of energy are both signs of dehydration, so keep pumping electrolytes in that dry heat. Happy Hiking
@@ChicaandSunsets Thanks was not sure the first time I went through there was lots of snow the second time hardly any.Used to be a frog reroute ahead I always thought that was funny seen a lot of reroutes but never one for frogs.
Haven’t heard any more. She was 54 . It could have been a lot of things. Heat exhaustion or heat stroke. She could have had other conditions to complicate the heat.

Love pecan pancakes!!! Love your videos…thank you & safe travels!!
Thank you for sharing even the rough times. It’s refreshing and educational. Love your advice and I’m glad you took a much needed rest.
Keeping it real!! 😍

Thanks for the positive update👣
Glad y’all got recuperated. Hope Chica’s ear issue is gone. I have the same feeling if I get too hot and dehydrated on trail.
Interesting! My ear issue HAS gone away, thank goodness! Thanks! - Chica
I totally understand the frustration with the dry and heat. I couldn’t eat at all and had to get off all together. The heat is very difficult for me.
For sure it is hard. Sorry you had to get off, but for sure we get this.
Glad you guys are taking good care ❤️
Wow! That thumbnail image !
Nice ! Just tuned in. You guys are doing the whole trail ? I’m an old guy, keen to do the trail, so was wondering how old you
both are ?- cheers
The plan was to do whole trail. Currently dealing with a severe muscle strain so we’ll see. We are 52 and 55. Thanks for watching.
That's a big climb out of Cahone Pass.
Is there still snow around the acorn trail and hwy 2 ?
All snow in that area is gone.

Haha- yeah, we walked the road for the reroute. Seems the actual trail is in poor/dangerous condition because it’s been closed for so long.
Does the pickle work for dehydration and leg cramps? I just hiked near Hanover for a few days and suffered really bad leg cramps.
It has a ton of sodium providing electrolytes. While it won’t rehydrate you, I’ve found it prevents and addresses cramps quite well.
A woman from my town died from the heat In Colorado Monday. She was only 2 miles in on the trail. Don’t know any of the details.
Oh wow! So very sad. Very dangerous. So sorry to hear this.

Looks like you need some sun block
Not sunburn, just exertion.
