This may be our final harvest of the season for the Dorset naga challenge. While the final count isn't as impressive as we were hoping, it was still quite a bit yield from a single pepper plant!

500 peppers off one plant? Wow I have some pepper plants I can count on my hand how many I've gotten! I think the most peppers I've gotten off one plant this season is about 3 dozen and it's off a cayenne plant!
Thanks, definitely not a bad harvest at all! The plant could just keep on going, too, if only the weather would stay warm!
If you take part in another challenge like this one next year, you should place your pot on a dolly when transplanting. So you can easily move your plant into your garage to protect it from the cold nights at the beginning and end of the season. That's the advantage of growing in pots: we can easily extend our growing season by almost a month.

That is still very impressive, many growers can only dream of such a harvest. Apply what you have learned to the next season and I bet you'll do even better. And thank you for taking on this challenge, it has been fun watching the different strategies unfold.

Too much rain in the northeast this year. HORRIBLE for just about everything. Nice job for a crap season. Was much happier with last summer and zero rain. Its easy to water containers and keep everything regular. Fewer slugs too!
I want to hear what you plan to do with all those. I made a powder out of much of mine last year....a powder that is so hot it may last forever with how little you need to use!! I also made some hot sauce, but that only took 7 peppers. I still have a gallon freezer bag full that I expect will last me forever.
Well, it's a lot of the same for us. Since we aren't Johnny Scoville, superhots last a long time in our kitchen. We were going to donate a bunch to a local sauce maker, but some of the pods showed signs of mold/stink bug damage, so we didn't want to risk it. So, more powder (sometimes we use it to deter rodents, and freezing for small batches of superhot sauce

I did not come close to either of you in quantity, but still had far more Dorset Naga pods than I knew what to do with (I turned 60 of them into powder, a few I froze, and I gave away 20 to a friend). My plant in the sunny allotment ripened about 100 pods before killed by frost in early November; the one in my more shady Old Garden ripened about 30 before I took it out (still healthy other than a bit of yellowing). The third one was much smaller and did not produce at all. I still have a lot to learn.
Still a great haul overall, look forward to next year's challenge 🎉
That, is an impressive plant.
Would be interesting to see what an overwintered naga would do in the same conditions (although can't be exactly the same, like next year may not be rainy/cloudy).

I've just done another harvest on my Dorset Naga, so far I've picked 932 (957 actually, but i didn't get photo evidence of the 25) pods. There are still more on my plant, ripening and growing, so I'm hoping for 1 more harvest before the weather gets too cold. Super happy with my monster plant 😊
Defeat or not, it is still a really nice looking plant and a really nice total harvest! Also, your peppers looked bigger than ChilliChump's I think. If I had room (and didn't have seeds for so many varieties I want to try) I would probably have tried my hand at growing a "moster plant" as well 😄

Just checked, looks like long range weather up here, outside Boston, no temps drop below mid to high 40's for the next 10 days. And stays into 70's most days for that same time frame.
That means more time on plants for both my dozen or so Bell, and coupe of Lemon Drop Aiji Pepper!
Awesome! We're looking okay for the next week or so too. The plants definitely don't love the low 50s, but they'll at least have a chance to ripen up what is already there
Very nice. I've been keeping my indoor habanero going (planted spring 2022). This year I've harvested 923 peppers so far totaling 3.4 kg, or about 3.7g each.

Amazing results, especially for indoors! I wish we had a better indoor space so we could try growing big plants inside. Kudos!
It's a good 5-6 ft tall and it's growing in a diy SIP container we made out of a window box planter somewhere around 20L in size.
I need to get into one of the challenges (pepper grower of 20 years.) I would have so much fun
For the next challenge may I suggest a challenge of total weight of peppers. Your peppers seem a bit larger than chilli chimp's. So in my opinion you won🎉

I’m in zone 8b. This is my first year planting habanero peppers. I have watched all your videos from seedling, transplant, fertilizing, pruning etc. I started seedlings right outside in April. First transplant in May followed by a second transplant in July. I discarded a total of 3 small plants and ended up with 11 healthy, strong plants minus one that didn’t bear any fruits. I know I started late but right now, I have green habanero peppers hanging from 6 of the plants with 4 plants still flowering. It’s been a couple weeks since they’ve been in that stage. Night temperature is falling in the mid 50’s. How long before they turn orange? Will it get too cold for the ones flowering to bear any fruits? Thanks
Still a really nice looking plant even this late in the season Calvin! I wonder if Shaun would be up for a rematch; same capacity container, each growing one out in the environment, soil mixes and nutrients depending on what each of you wanted. Just curious of leveling the playing field betweel a couple good competitors! -Bob...

Rocoto chilli do a video on this please as it’s the only perennial chilli in the world and I wish it to be hybridised to create new perennial varieties of chilli plants the way the universe can be a good thing for all of humanity
Hey pepper geeks! Can you please please help me, I have not been able to find an answer to my dilemma. I love to cook with dried pablano, ie, ancho peppers. When buying at the store in the mex section, the anchos are wonderful, soft and pliable, with a sweet Smokey and an almost tobacco fragrance. I’ve tried to grow pablanos to mimic this result to no avail. I’ve dehydrated which results in a more crispy texture and almost no smell, stopping early in the dehydration doesn’t work either. I’ve hung them on a string to naturally dry but they seem mold or rot before they dry. I can’t find a method to mimic the store bought. Any suggestions? I grow peppers from bells to reapers, love making dried peppers, smoked peppers, and pepper jelly, but I can’t find a way to properly dry a pablano to make a proper ancho, please help!
Hey pepper geek, I've got an issue with my peppers. I've been trying to grow capsicum annuum plants (for decoration) for a few years now, with mixed succes. When growing from seed, they always pop up to quite big, bushy plants, 6 to 8 inches tall. However, at some point the growth stops, leaves start to drop, stems start to shrivel, and eventually the plant dies. Recently this started happening to one of my plants, so I cut it back to basically just the stem. This started sprouting leaves from every single node, so looking like a promising recovery. However, without any warning, after a while the plant then started shriveling at the very top. Any clue what could cause this?
I _think_ the main issue that causes the plants to have issues in the first place is aphids, even though I only see very few bugs on the plants, but I don't know what's causing the second decaying.
Hmm, if you have a pest problem, then it could be the cause of all the issues. Aphids are easy to spot, but broad mites and thrips are smaller and harder to notice (but can cause major damage). Otherwise, I'd make sure they're in a large enough container, and water enough to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Nutrients can also cause issues (too little _or_ too much), and of course, diseases..
Damn congratulations, thats a lot of heat from one plant! Ny season has been the worst. Ny Carolina reaper produced only ONE pod 😂 location south finland.
I commiserate with you, the cayenne plant that I had high hopes for ... yielded 6 peppers. :(

Nice. I didn't grow any Dorset Nagas this season, but I plan on doing so next season.
My biggest producer (zone 7a; southern coastal CT) this year were my scotch bonnets where I ended up with about 10 pounds off 5 plants and Aji Charapita, where I have just over a pound dehydrated off 8 plants.
To all the people in the comment section stop calling it a dorset nega...its a fukin ghost pepper
