    My mom has been using pressure cooker since forever. It's definitely a life saver. Sometimes she doesn't leave hers under a cool running water except she's in a hurry. She leaves it to cool and nothing happens to its contents. I don't know the brand name. I need to get one for my kitchen even though I cook for me alone. It's definitely a must have. Thanks for yet another jollofmas video.

    Hey Flo, thanks for this video. Like you, I was sceptical about pressure pots for years. Can you believe that someone gave me a pressure pot as a wedding gift 20 years ago and I carried it with me from one country to the other for many years. 6 years ago, I thought to gift it to someone who might find it useful. And so I asked a friend if she wanted it and she said she had one and that it one of her best investments. She asked me why I wanted to give it out and I told her I just didn't want something that could hurt me or my kids. You see, when I first received the pressure pot I read the manual and there were too many "do nots" and for me that signal "wahala" my friend laughed so hard and went on to show me how to use it. And now, I keep wondering why it took me so long to use this amazing kitchen gadget. The brand is vinod.

    Flo, Flo, Flo... my favorite cooking instructor. I also have the same brand of pressure cooker, but have the Fagor Duo with the large and small pot. And yes, I've had my share of mistakes including going from ponmo to ponmo pudding. This thing is just too powerful. I've had mine for a few years, just as you have and noticed something at 22:10.
    When your pot came to pressure, I could still hear the sound of escaping steam. This could be for 2 reasons: One is if the heat is too low and not enough to keep the pot firmly under pressure. It could still work, but that's the sound of escaping steam. The second reason is if the gasket has to be replaced. It might still work, but after some time, it might not work as well. No need to replace right away, but it tells u it does not have a proper seal. That could be the reason the lip popped up on you - it kept warning you, but you did not listen. ☺
    Thanks again for all your cooking videos!

    Keep them coming Aunt Flo! Pressure pot is bae! It is one of my most valuable items in the kitchen. When I bought it I was just asking myself why I waited that long to get it. It really saves time and energy! A bit expensive but it's worth it in the long run. Beans,ukwa,goat meat,cowleg,shaki,hard chicken and cowskin etc don enter wahala with my pressure pot.
    Another kitchen item I can't do without is my stand mixer. I use it for pounded yam...we don't joke with it at all,you wouldn't even be able to tell it wasn't done with mortar. Then I usually bake in bulk alot to store in the freezer so it comes in handy.
    Thanks for the video,keep them rolling.

    Your story on pressure pot is the story of my life ooo. Growing up, my mum was a kitchen gadget guru, but we never had one and I still keep wondering why. After I got married in 2011, a friend of mine tried talking me into buying one just like the aunty you were describing😀😀😀😂 but mba, I did not. Then you know what she did, July 2017, she came to my house with her own and said oya cook cow leg and beans and you know what.... I wanted to flog myself for all the gas I have wasted. I bought mine and had issues with it, I reached out to the company and it was replaced immediately. To all the time and gas I have wasted,I am sorry lord🙏🙏😂😂❤❤.

    Here in Canada, we're having a resurgence of the pressure pot, but now it's an electric model! We call them "Instant Pots" (marketing at its finest!); there are all sorts of different brands of course but the Instant Pot is what has recently become super popular because it has introduced pressure pot cooking to a new generation of cooks with a whole bunch of preset functions for making things easier for newbie cooks, like: beans, meat/stew, poultry, steaming, slow cooking, beans, rice, porridge, yoghurt(!), plus a manual setting if you already know how long you like to have things cooked. Plus there are added safety mechanisms to prevent the horror stories that grandmothers would tell about boiling hot liquids shooting straight up to the ceiling that would stain everything they touched ;) Personally, I love mine because it helps speed up making all of the traditional Chinese dishes my mom used to make that would take so long to cook normally on the stovetop.

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  5 років тому +1

      😂😂😂 What would the world be like if there are no grandma horror stories, eh? The Spaniards prefer driving manual transmission cars and when you ask them they tell you that driving automatic transmission vehicles is boring. One lady told me that she will sleep off if she is not switching gears. Little wonder why they rank high in the happy index!
      Your Instant Pot sure sounds like a nifty kitchen equipment! I want to be like you when my pressure pot breaks in the future. :)

      @@FloChinyere Oh man, I totally get the manual transmission driving! I still haven't quite gotten the hang of driving automatic in my little Smart Car (and it's been, oh.. just about 10 years now?? LOL!!!) -- I am currently in the beginning stages of a cold/flu that has been going around and I just heard my Instant Pot beep, telling me the big pot of rice porridge bubbling away is ready to eat! I have to admit: I love the ability to "set & forget" the Instant Pot ^_^ (It's also fantastic for making almost no-effort homemade Chinese soybean milk!)

    It is a life saver Flo and I've upgraded to the electric one now o. I not only cook meat and beans with it. I now make jollof rice, pasta, ukwa etc with it, and because it has a timer and turns itself off, i leave it on while i go out and about or take my bath without stress.

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  5 років тому +1

    My mom has been using pressure pots all my life and my younger self decided to go and use too, aunty Flo I almost killed myself oh. It was pressure pot that taught me that steam is HOTTER than boiling water. I went to force the cover open without fully depressurizing it. Jesus, it was truly an explosive mess that day and nearly killed me. Thankfully I was quick n off the cover's trajectory so I wasn't seriously injured other than the burn from the steam that hurt for what felt like eternity. Anyway, the best way I enjoy beans porridge is if it's cooked with a pressure pot...jst melts in the mouth like baked beans. It's DEFINITELY A KITCHEN MUST HAVE!!!

      @@FloChinyere no, not fully under pressure. The one we have at home, there's something on the cover u pull up and hold up (with the string we attached to it) to release the pressure faster 🤣. So I'd pulled it for a while and then got impatient so i decided to force it open. I'll never forget that day...never ever will i mess with pressure pot again haha

    The problem with pressure pots in Nigeria is that even with the good brands, a lot of fakes have flooded the market. I bought one earlier this year and it took 3 hours to cook beans. I had to stop and continue the next day and it still didn't get done. My husband was waiting to eat and I had to boil rice (thank God I had stew in the freezer).
    I bundled it the next day back to the shop where I bought it here in portharcourt. My husband was like are you sure they will refund you? I said they will o, because my 11,500 naira cannot burn like that.
    I got there and it seemed like they were acting funny, na so I change am for them. My Lagos upbringing came out fully...long story short I was refunded and my husband was shocked 😂.
    So if anyone can also point me to anywhere in portharcourt I can get a genuine pressure pot, I would be glad.

      Nne the hustle is real ooooo. I buy from kubwa market, Abuja. Goat rearers no longer allow the mkpi to mature too much before butchering it. I was initially not sure about the cooking time but I had to pay attention these 2 or 3 last times I've cooked.

      I think that is what is happening there. They are selling nwa nkpi as ewu. LOL This is what they sell in the meat market here in Spain too because they do not eat mature ewu. Those guys that buy for us go into the villages to look for mature ewu.

      Ngozi I am glad you are loving it.
      The way I cook black eyed beans is I soak it in the evening the next day I rinse, put in the pot, pour water to cover the beans then add add about 2 inches more of water above the level of beans. Add all the other ingredients. Start cooking on setting 1 pressure. When I hear the shii sound, I check the time and cook for 30 more minutes then turn off the heat. It will be perfect when it depressurizes.
      For brown beans, I cook for about 20 minutes because it cooks in less time.

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  5 років тому

      Nonye I wouldn't want to make okwo ose at home with my spice grinder because it is messy and may even clog it.
      I make mine at the market where they use heavy duty grinders. If you watch my Nigerian ingredients haul videos eg this one: ua-cam.com/video/lW295cngeqc/v-deo.html you will see a small drum of okwo ose we usually bring back from Nigeria.
      To make it you need well roasted groundnuts (the very brown ones), ehuru and dry cayenne pepper. Blend every thing several times. In Nigerian markets, they blend it about 3 times with the heavy duty machine.
