This is a great result for me. The practice session on Tuesday paid off on Thursday. All I had done with the pistol since Tuesday was run a few patches through the bore and clean a little ink smear off the center of the front glass on the sight. Clearing up the sight was the difference, plus the trigger time.
Four good 5 shot groups without a flier for 20 consecutive shots on the last target of the day is a good indication that the eye strain I was seeing earlier really was due to the less than perfect visibility through the sight.
