The thing I always found weird about CHECKMATE is how the girls managed to keep their hair on their head... like their company used to give them the most OUTLANDISH hair colors

That staff member in the car during the livestream was being beyond horrible. Berating them for not talking enough, but nitpicking every topic they attempted to discuss?? There was no way to please her, and you can tell that’s why they were so quiet and anxious. 😰

A few things to add :
- As far as I know it was Korea's Broadcasting System that found "Hit on me like a drum" to be too violent and so they couldn't promote on music shows.
- They got a lot of support for being one of the few co-ed groups to debut,but at the same time they also got some scrutiny from Hidden Cards due to them having a similar sound to Kard (tropical moombahton). But bruh if I was a coed group from a nugu company I would also try to pander to the Latin fans seeing they are the only ones who openly support coed groups.
- Fans were also very frustrated with how the male members were more like backup dancers rather than actual members especially when talking about line distribution.
- YOU comeback got pushed a lot of times. Many fans were tired and confused.

I, personally, found the comparisons to KARD to be incredibly unfair. Yes, the similarities are there; I'm not denying that (I have eyes). But many of those similarities, in my opinion, rly boiled down to them being the same type of group (co/ed) peddling in the same concept. Sure, there were things they and their company could've done to distinguish themselves from KARD, but I'm of the opinion that the group was in a v "damned if you do, damned if you don't" position when it came to their look and sound. People were gonna make the comparisons, irregardless if they tried to do everything to be the anti-KARD, so they might as well just do whatever the fuck they wanted/would get them the most eyes/ears.
Most of Hidden Kards liked Checkmate's debut with drum, we were very happy to see a new co-ed group debuting.
Things got more complicated when they released You, which sounded a lot like Gunshot.

I am happy to say that despite all of the bullshit, Sieun and Suri have persevered it together. They’ve been friends for years and checkmate literally meant the world to both of them. (Suri actually DMed the hacked checkmate account herself probably because that bumass company wasn’t doing shit) It’s especially sad for me because this was probably the girls’ last chance to debut because they’re “too old” at this point. :( whatever they choose next, I know it’ll be the right choice.

Good god, seeing that live clip made me feel so uncomfortable and i can't even imagine how the members felt having that person constantly yell at them over and over about how they're not entertaining enough, constantly correcting them and how the views are dropping, AND SHE DID THAT SO NONCHALANTLY LIKE THAT SHIT WAS LOUD AND IN THEIR FACES BRUH????

I never really got into them while they were still active so I didn't know much about them but, even if i wasn't a fan, seeing something like that happen is so frustrating 😭
That live video is so weird. Does that CEO not know how many idols just sit on the phone during vlive and read comments? And most car ride vlives are very casual where the idols just check in our their fans to show their face. And the thing about a new album? A second album IS a new album so the members were right to say that
it's awful knowing that there are so many people like that woman speaking to them in the industry. so many staff members, directors, and trainers who treat these young people like objects and their personal punching bags. i feel like idols and trainees have very little power over their lives and how they're treated since speaking up would ruin their chances and also probably wouldn't work... i truly hope all the members are in a good place despite their idol career being over.
That whole clip of them going live was so awkward and unprofessional from whoever was making those comments. No shame
So sad to hear that group disband. I did like both of their songs enough that I was curious to see where they go next. I remember that their second song was surrounded by some controversy bc it sounded a lot like Kard's Gunshot (i didn't mind, i still liked it but you can't deny the obvious similarities). I would have loved to see them grow and develop their own identity and style but maybe it's good that they aren't with that company anymore...
Co-ed groups are already so rare, it's sad to lose another one

This is just upsetting, I remember when I came across their first released song drum and I loved it. I was happy that people are trying to bring back co-ed groups. It's just dissapointing on how the manager was treating them like I would be just as uncomfortable as them. I hope they doing better now
I'm so mad at whoever that was talking to them like that in the live, like who is she to talk to them like that? She wants them to talk, but when they do talk she wants them to stop. I know they weren't standing up to her bc she had some sort of power over them, but my god i wish i was there to give her a piece of my mind. No wonder they weren't a stable group with someone like that in charge, but I hope they're all much happier doing their own things now!
im actually impressed that the girls still pursued a career in the music industry after multiple failures. i wld have left the scene the first time i experience failure

The live with that staff member was uncomfortable to watch, I can only imagine how terribly they were treated behind the scenes. I loved Checkmate's music and I'm glad they re-recorded "Drum", and I loved "You", the music video was great. I hope they all get to reunite later under a much better company.

I had NO idea all this was happening, I was there when the debut happened and was OBSESSED with the song. I feel so sad for them and I hope they are not stuck in a horrible 7 year contract.
Also, the lyrics thing... I’m sorry but they are not violent at all. ‘Hit on me’ or ‘get hit on’ is a common english expression used to describe someone approaching somebody else with romantic intentions. ‘Hit on me like a drum’ was OBVIOUSLY a play on words, trying to describe someone hitting on somebody else hard or in intense manner while also alluding to the sound of the song and it’s musical influences. Kpop fans don’t even bother to THINK before getting offended nowadays. The new version doesn’t sound as good sorry.
Yea, I think it was a reach but there was definitely some out rage over the lyrics and I believe the reason they didn’t perform the debut (at least according to some fans in the comments) they couldn’t perform the song on tv stations because of the lyrics 😭

Omg this situation for a kpop company is so messed up😤Why would a staff or a CEO talks to their artist like that, even during live. The checkmate members couldn’t even speak. They look so nervous and scared. The amount of people watching them live depends on your company promotion. If you don’t promote enough, then how can people recognise & support them. That’s why this kind of company is impossible to succeed. Not because of not working hard enough, but because of their treatment towards their own artists. They should be shameful of themselves, so awful😡 (i’m sad cuz the members were trying really hard to interact with fans during live, but that happens)
I loved their music, I felt like this group was really needed in kpop, it was refreshing to see a group with female and male members debut, I was so sad when they disbanded but now I'm glad it happened, watching how the CEO treated the members made me cry, they didn't deserve that, they tried so hard to keep up with their livestream and the CEO just kept screaming at them 😟 They're really talented so I hope they're onto better things

what also happened, before releasing 'you' they planned to drop the mv teaser but instead of doing that, they accidentally posted the entire mv days before the actual release date. and then deleted the video a few minutes later TT. i was so confused at the time

I miss checkmate. I remember waiting for their debut and the comeback. The disbandment was sad, but if they were mistreated it’s what needed to be done.

I had no idea that the company had such incompetent staff. Since Hot Issue was disbanded recently, I'm tempted to compare the two. In comparison S2 entertainment did a lot more for the group, including their own short reality show, and announced the disbandment on Twitter (well, Naver, but they posted the link on Twitter). Of course, disbandment after mere months is always bad. But talking into a Instagram live like this thinking your voice won't be heard by the viewers is pathetic.
It was an Instagram live, which is worse since IG is more accessible globally...

Let's not be naive here. Since idols are closely watched by the public, their livestreams will always be monitored and supervised by their company, which is necessary for their wellbeing too since I don't believe all idols are good with managing their public image (thus needing the help of a manager and public relations officer). But what that staff missed is that they should have a briefing BEFORE doing the livestream, not DURING the livestream. It backfired to them because it shows the company's unproffesionalism.
Oh no, I loved their debut drum, and I subscribed to their channel, sadly I forgot about them and their songs🥺

Always love your videos. I was wondering if you could do a video one day on the pre-debut girl group called "YOURS?" They first gained attention back in 2020 via their UA-cam channel and fans could vote on the trainees and the top 7 that got over a million votes would get to debut. They also gained attention when they started doing MV reactions. Then they went silent and eventually all the female trainees left the company and I think the company is going to debut a boy group instead.
Honestly, I fear for the boys, too. Before settling on the final line-up, Deep Studio also let go of a bunch of male trainees along with the girls

the staff member, ceo… whoever that was.. was so mean. i felt so bad for the members. it was hard to watch this and listen to the way she spoke to them. they literally did nothing wrong. she scolds them for each topic they discuss. they’ll move on to a new topic and she’ll complain about that topic every time. you’re supposed to talk to your fans during a live. it’s okay to talk about the weather. it’s okay to tell fans know you have something new coming soon. it’s okay to just read the comments to see what fans are saying. i’m sure they were just staring most of the time bc they didn’t know how to react to her embarrassing them like that. imagine being someone who understood what she was saying when this live actually took place. situations like this just remind me that not every staff member or ceo is going to be nice. and that’s sad. everyone is deserving of respect. the artist is the reason why you have the job and why you make money to keep your company afloat. don’t start up a company if you’re going to treat your artist like shit and not treat them like human beings deserving of respect. this story is just so sad. i’ve seen so many videos about people who wanted to be idols. they spent many years training only to end up in a group that disbands after five days, a couple of months, or 1-2 years. i can’t even imagine how that feels. it’s gotta feel like a waste of all that precious time.

Since rarely ever debut now or if they do they don't stay together for long. It sucks that they disbanded but I'm glad they got out of there after the mistreatment they had to go through.

i used to stan them 2 years ago alongside with secret number, but both groups lost my fave members so i lost interest

Also the Haechan (I think that’s his name) wasn’t even in a song. And Nason, Yongseok and Noah being treated like background dancers and singers compared to Suri and Sieun, no hate or blame to them it’s Grace’ fault, (look at the line distribution to understand). And don’t even get me started on the supposed CEO lady, like lady, shut the fuck up. Do think people can’t hear you or some shit?
I’m praying everyday that they reunite under a better company or atleast meet again and just be group of normal friends cause their story was short, yes, but also so sad and heart breaking
