- Megadeth is an American Heavy/Thrash Metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1983. Founded by guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine, bassist Dave Ellefson and guitarist Greg Handevidt following Mustaine's expulsion from Metallica, the band has since released 12 studio albums, three live albums, two EPs, 26 singles, 32 music videos, four compilations, and one box set. As a pioneer of the American thrash metal movement, Megadeth rose to international fame in the 1980s and was ranked as one of the "Big Four of Thrash" along with Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, who were responsible for creating, developing and popularizing the thrash metal sub-genre.
The band line-up of Megadeth has been changed several times, due partly to the band's notorious substance abuse problems. From 1983 to 2002 - and as of February 8, 2010 - Mustaine and Ellefson are the only original members of the band, with Mustaine being the only constant member. After finding sobriety and securing a stable line-up, Megadeth went on to release a string of platinum and gold albums, including the platinum-selling landmark Rust in Peace in 1990, and the Grammy nominated, multi-platinum Countdown to Extinction in 1992.
Megadeth disbanded in 2002 after Mustaine suffered a severe nerve injury to his left arm. However, following extensive physical therapy, Mustaine reformed the band in 2004 and released The System Has Failed, followed by United Abominations in 2007; the albums debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #18 and #8, respectively. Megadeth, along with their new lead guitarist Chris Broderick, released their twelfth studio album, titled Endgame, on September 15, 2009, which debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200, marking Megadeth's fifth top 10 album.
In the band's 34 active years, there have been over 21 individuals that have all officially been a part of the group at different times, with Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson being the only original members still in the line-up, with Ellefson leaving temporarily. Megadeth is known for its distinctive, technical instrumental style, often featuring dense, intricate passages and trade-off guitar solos, as well as for Mustaine's recurring lyrical themes including politics, war, addiction, personal relationships, and religious themes. Megadeth has sold over 30 million albums worldwide, with five consecutive albums being certified platinum or multi-platinum in the US. The band has also been nominated nine times for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.

One thing about Megadeth, they sound as good live as they do in studio! Mustane makes sure he, and everybody else, plays each song lick for lick.
well kinda, but they sound good enough knowing most of the live material is near 3 decades old, and mustaine is almost 5 and a half decades old, its kinda forgiveable and godly that he can still perform how well he does
+Ironjayden Taylor Yea that style of music has got to be insanely tough to play live, no matter what age you are
Especially for the fact that idk how mustaine creates the riffs he does and performs them whike singing
Ironjayden Taylor I was going to comment the same, I play and sing, I really don't know how he does it.
That's cool.
To be perfectly honest, Chris nailed every solo.
Chris is a bit underrated
He played just the same of the original version
he is robot
Clorox Bleach) @😀
@@onurcyprus7366 That's his job, not to ad-lib his own shit in there. Play it as written and get paid. Why does everyone world think these guys should just "play what they feel"?
chris broderick is an insane guitar player!
the best one Megadeth ever had. No disrespect to Friedman.
Friedman / Poland / Loureiro / Broderick. That's just 4 excellent guitarist, no need to compare them they were all killers
Mats Bøgwald) @😀
Better live than Marty
Metal Morphine Dave has screwed up quite a bit over the years still hope he heals up
I am a huge Metallica fan and I have never actually listend to megadeth... huge mistake this guys are awesome
As u listen more to
megadeth, u'll soon realize they're far far better than 'Tallica.... That's what happened to me
+Skum Dawgg i have listend to plenty of songs and I have to say they are amazing and I am becoming megadeth fan but I still think metallica are better not by technique but i just like their songs more (darker, heavier). still megadeth is ducking amazing especially chris
SHITALLICA
Well, whether Metallica or Megadeth are better, one thing is for sure: Megadeth fans will usually be the ones to start shitstorms.
it ain't it is preety good especially kea
Thanks Lars Ulrich for create this band.
lmao
Essa foi a melhor coisa que esse lixo fez na vida dele, amo Metallica más Lars é um verdadeiro lixo, como pessoa e ( atualmente ) baterista !

Naelson Simões 400% pixtola
Agree hahaha
Its too weird not seeing Dave Ellefson on Bass
I was thinking the same
andreses parra i too
:(
Goabnb94 i immediately change the video
Lemenzo was definitely a worthy replacement until Jr returned later on.
It's a scientific fact that it's impossible to watch the intro without headbanging
The man with the frying pan I proved you wrong by literally not headbanging throughout the entire song.
@@hyperbiscuit2284 u aint human
@@hyperbiscuit2284 I suppose you broke your neck then.
I don't find this song particularly headbangable.
@@oscarquintero2209 cuz u listened to tool, lmao
Sounds just like the recording, they know what's up.
+Christian Taylor This is definitely not live. They never play this clean on stage.
+roman taylor this is live dave is a perfectionist and you can hear mistakes just cuz modern bands cant play live doesn't mean shit he is clean so now so you cant compare this to when he wasn't
+legomypancakes shoosh, kid.
I have heard many times Dave saying that he hates bands using backing track just because they are lazy, and that if they can play something they have to do it, this definitely live, Dave's voice (and playing, and pretty much everything Dave Mustaine) was in shape, Broderick was killing it, James was a fine member to hold the bass while David was away, and even Shawn is doing good here, it's a very complete Megadeth performance.
+SigmaTV Ok after reading some of the recordings I have come to the conclusion that Dave's voice was overdubbed on studio after this was recorded, but that's it, instrumentally they are kicking ass.
This sounds pretty damn close to the studio version
This is were dave could still sing :(
The one they did in 1992 sounds even better
@@draiverc7519 it's overdubbed tho
still his voice wasn't in bad shape back then. It got ugly in late 2009..
Just knowing Dave's story and everything he's been through to achieve what he has with megadeth is simply amazing to me. By all measures, a rock god.
Thanks bro make sure to smash that subscribe button and click the bell 💪
Yessir he is tuned in all around not just musically ✌️❤️🇺🇸

Dave's voice was on point here. Really good.

This is 100% re-recorded in the studio
@@dirtyharry1881 hmmm now that I think about it, it does look kinda like you said
@@dirtyharry1881 definitely re-recorded, the vocals don't match up with his lips or facial movements.
This is one of the best live version I've ever heard
End all mind hiney some moke yes all waiting my am blind aia
Chris Broderick is one of the most skilled metal guitarists of all time.
first time listening to this song
drumming, solos, bass, and riffs are all perfect and tight! love it!
im 18 and i am glad these guys are still going today!
Derek 18, i know too much
3:52 Dave in the audience
Future Dave travelled from time to see himself perform! It really looks like him
MattMcFaddenGuitar Hahaha
Just the thought of Dave Mustaine watching his own band live and having a blank expression is priceless. I imagine him thinking "How has nobody noticed that my band is so fast that I'm literally in two places at once? Wow look at that hair, looking good, me"
Matthew Mcfadden "Hello me, meet the real me"
Haha it was a clone from Sweet Bullets
The resemblance between this and the studio version is unbelievable, everything sounds almost identical!
Dave is beyond talented. Dudes playing lead licks and singing without showing any signs of struggle. Boss mode
Those solos are insane. After all these years it's still like an out of body experience. What a band.
I've always loved it when a concert starts with the stage totally dark and on the first note of the song all the lights come of like that. There's something exciting about that moment! It's like..WHOA! HERE WE F***IN' GO!!!!
Jap that's great. My expirience with that has nothing to do with these monsters, but I'll share it. It was a Helloween concert. No supporting or opening band. Just darknes. Then I saw the light from Michael Weikaths cigarrete somewhere on the right side of the stage. And I thought " well here we go"
damn I forgot how good this live was.....12 years ago ? damn
trying to learn this by ear lol, taking quite a while but ever so happy in my progression, half way :D
ashdragon1) @😀 (
You know you're talented enough when you're a rhythm guitarist but also do the solo.
You forget. Dave was a lead guitarist before MegaDeth. And he’s always traded solos with his lead players in Megadeth
@@thegstr33t81 No, You're wrong.
I will not forget that Dave was a lead guitarist in Metallica,
But I'm talking about Dave in this video, IN MEGADETH.
Tegas Van Halen I’m saying that’s why he’s so good at lead. He wasn’t always rhythm. Dummy.
@@thegstr33t81
Relax, Mate. I have nothing against you.
But... Dave Mustaine was asked by AXS on how he determines who plays lead and who plays rhythm in Megadeth, to which he replied: "It's pretty simple - it's based on the rhythm. I'm a better rhythm player than a soloist.
But he's lead too sometimes probably.
Tegas Van Halen he’s always trades solos with his leads. He usually carries the rhythm and the lead fills in, but sometimes in certain songs they’ll trade off for certain solos. That’s how it’s always been.
This song Is massive , a truly Megadeth masterpiece.
somebody help me! I cant stop listening to this song! im not even a metalhead!
When you watch Chris playing then you realize how a guitarist should look while playing, excellent posture, he looks very comfortable, the guitar at a proper distance (sorry for those who think that having the guitar at the knees is cool), both hands moving elegant. Even if I didnt know he had a classical guitar formation I would ve thought so. Excellent musician.
2:41 Daves headbanging is sooooo awesooomeee.
Best solo ever imo
Best live version of Hangar 18. Just like the studio version, just a bit faster
I could detect no difference between this performance and the album version, superb!!
If anything this version is better due to the guitars more pronounced when palm muted
chris is as buff as his guitar playing

I think that MONSTER actually improved the 3:06 solo segment.

broderick nails it, precise and perfect
I can see this song a million time and not get tired
Can anyone imagine how insane it would've been if dimebag Darrell took up mustaines offer of joining Megadeth?
And if Vinnie was on drums!
Then we would have no Pantera. How about no?
^That's true actually
Rob Halford: oh there would have still been a PanterA i imagine with Dave Mustaine's ego & how he has a hard time getting along with people especially back then. & i'm sure Mustaine would have found something wrong with Dimebag & it wouldn't have lasted long i don't think even if Dimebag did join Megadeth & i still think there would have been a PanterA regardless even if Dimebag did join Megadeth back then because like i said i don't think it would have lasted long anyways. But that's just my opinion.
Actually, it was offered around 1999 meaning Pantera was on the verge of breaking up anyway. Also, Mustaine was a close friend of the brothers.
when i look up for megadeth live i always go for san diego, dave's voice here is the best imo
I never appreciated this song fully until I saw 4 masters play it. Dave, Dave, Marty and Nick. Still the most skilled line up I have ever watched.
Chris is a beast and truly a compliment to the band's sound. Match made in metal heaven.
My other favourite matched pairs were James & Kirk and Rob & Logan (Machine Head)
So glad he did Marty's solos. This album has legendary solos.
He did a pretty good job with the vocals, I was surprised. If you listen closely you can clearly listen to him growling to reach the highnotes.
Chris Broderick is my second favorite Megadeth guitarist only just behind Marty Friedman. He's so technically perfect with every note. Also props to him for playing a 7 string guitar even though most if not all of these songs were written for standard 6 strings. This is one of favorite Megadeth live shows.
dayum. 2 things happened in real life JUST NOW (2-3 mins). I just commented bout the same shiz(the first part of ur comment) and seconds bf4 that actually typed "MEGADETH's BEST LIVE". DUDE, fr, fkkkklkk hahahaha. this really just happened hahah
I love metallica but Mustaine's voice leave me like o_o and that dark epic guitar riffs its just too much. Megadeth are freaking amazing I think I like them more than Metallica.
+Alejandro Aguilar WAY better than Metallica
A mi tambien me encantan Metallica y Megadeth, pero mas me gusta Metallica

the best version of hangar 18
I love Metallica but Megadeth has always been better IMO. Dave, Chris P, Marty, and Nick just pound for pound their songs are harder to learn as a guitarist and the style is so much more aggressive!
harder isn't always better... I likr both bands a lot

Speaking as a Metallica fan who doesn't hate Megadeth but usually doesn't like them, THIS SONG KICKS ASS!!
God bless you,Dave

Hangar 18 is LITERALLY the greatest metal song of all times!! It has 14 fucking solos man!!!! 14 fucking solos!!!!
I was in hs in '08. Just really taking off on my guitar journey. Good times
chris and dave have amazing chemistry. seriously though. these two are phenomenal on stage
Esta cancion siempre me sube el animo, gracias megadeth, gracias dave :)
Super! Thanks!
Absolutely flawless... great live vocals of Dave
Dave Mustaine on stage in a KISS - shirt !
I guess everybody's got their secret heroes ;-)
But what a great performance, wow !
One of those bands who make it to sound like on the records when playing live :D
This is for geniuses only, just perfect!
i think its super awesome how dave lets the bass player be in the center of the stage sometimes
Broderick he's amazing
just 6 word for describe this video:
fucking impossible on guitar hero live
It's easy ass hell on gh live
+Noé C. but it's fucking impossible on real guitar lol xd
+Noé C. Is harder on GUITAR HERO II. I prefer the older GH games. Better music and better notes/harder ones.
+Diana Soto we share the same opinion. I don't like the new gh game
+GunsnRosesfan2012 i madr a stupid decision and buy it on my ipad
Oh my god... that guitar... is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen!
Dave is so creative, he has so much taste... incredible composer and guitar player!

I've always said that in terms of main stream appeal, Metallica is obviously better. But in terms of technical skills they got nothing on Megadeth. Honestly I love both, with Megadeth only inching slight further.
Megadeth, from a purely technical standpoint, chews Metallica out, and shits them out 24 hours later. Even at their height of the thrash days, Metallica was never this good. Never.
Metallica are better songwriters
Its not even close - Megadeth all day from technical standpoint.
metallica: better vocals, darker riffs, better bass lines
megadeth: better riffs, better solos, better drums
idk both are just great
@@seflw9666 I 100% agree

Essa formação do Megadeth é maravilhosa! Eu amo também. ☢🎸🎸🎸🤘💖
For those who think this sounds good take your hat off to Dave Mustaine for quitting the alcohol. I saw them 4 times in 4 years and they were only good for one of them. We booed them off the stage for the Monsters of Rock Tour in Portland Maine. They were so badly out of time and Dave couldn't even stand up. Alice in Chains blew them away that night.
Kudos Dave for mannin' up. Your fans will appreciate it for a long time. Peace.
Anciano Deacon AIC blows everyone away, not really a fair comparison
