I hadn't listened to Nightwish for a very long time, but when they announced this album, that changed almost instantly. Started revisiting both Tarja and Anette's work with the band, as well as Floor's contributions. Needless to say, Yesterwynde was absolutely worth the wait. I thought it was a much more emotional journey than their previous albums. (You're also right about the dryms on this one - freaking insane!🤘)
Oh thats awesome! What was it that made you want revisit the band? I think that this is far and away better than Human Nature and definitely will be one of my favourites this year! Lanternlight is a particular favourite too. What a band eh!
So glad to see this band return to what makes them great. I really enjoyed this album and thought it was a massive improvement over the last one. Still doesn't quite reach the heights of my favorites like Dark Passion Play or Oceanborn, but a fantastic record nonetheless. Here's hoping they forge onward in this direction. \m/
Me too! I think that this record wasn't as immediate as Endless Forms Most Beautiful but definitely more so than Human Nature and there wasn't a second album's worth of instrumental stuff. I definitely think that this is a good sign for the heavier end of Nightwish too. It's a shame that it won't be performed live on this run but glad that they are all doing well because of it. Thanks for checking out the video!
Couldn’t agree more. Definitely like an onion this one, there’s a huge amount to dig into here. I’m just gutted that we won’t be able to see it performed live just yet but I am sure that there will be room for one or two of these tracks at later date soon enough. Thanks for checking out the video too!
It was refreshing to hear your review. Specially after the very bad reviews it has received in many Latin American channels. For me, it's a great album. Love the tracks 7, 8 & 9 particularly. It's an album you definitely need to dedicate its time to sit down and listen to. But at the same time it's one that grabs you immediately by the most part
I definitely agree, there's a lot that this record does that hasn't been happening on the previous Nightwish releases. Personally it was one of my favourite releases of the year and I played it a hell of a lot more than I thought I would have! Thanks for the kind words all the same though :)
Thanks so much for the kind words my friend! I'm glad that you're a fan as well too. It's such a cinematic experience of a record I think. I'm also so glad that we've had a real return to the world of Metal too - I really enjoyed the previous albums but this one was just something else. Though I do really love Endless Forms!
You’re spot on about the drums! Some really good moments proper makes you go ohhh okayyy njghtwish Much better than the last album, listened to it 4 times today 😂😂
Haha funnily enough I was listening to The Antikythera Mechanism when I read this just now. Such a brilliant track, recalls that kind of Ghost Love Score level of bombast for me. Really exciting stuff. Thanks for checking out the video!
To be fair I think that the band are a bit of an acquired taste but I have got to be honest, when it comes to this kind of symphonic metal. They're just unbeatable! I love it. Thanks for checking out the video dude x
Symphonic metal is very hit or miss for me. I usually need an avantgarde element I.e. The Sham Mirrors by Arctuteus or In a Flesh Aquarium by Unexpect (both fantastic if you ga haven't heard). Hearing heavy and dark as descriptors has me intrigued to listen to Yesterwynde. As a companion piece, I'd recommend Maze Controller by Dungeon Crawl. Symphonic blackened thrash sounds odd on paper, but it works!
Same here! I am very picky with what I like and I definitely think that there's an element of nostalgia where Nighties are concerned because I remember getting into them with one of my best mates. Still to this day, remember moshing around in his kitchen super drunk hahaha! So good. let me know what you think of Yesterwynde when you do check it out!
ahhh yes! I have been listening to Die Urkatastrophe for quite some time now. Noise is a great song writer it has to be said, definitely reminded me of Heaven Shall Burn kind of vibes. If I get time I will definitely get around to it! :)
Oh interesting, as opposed to what else out of curiosity? I really loved Endless Forms but wasn't as enamoured with Human Nature too. Thanks for checking out the video!
I have been a fan of Nightwish for almost 20 years. After one listen of the whole album and a few listens of the released singles I must say that I am not particularly fond of it. The first half of it is just meh after meh. It gets better for me in the second half. My highlights were more or less the same as yours, Antikythera Mechanism, Spider Silk and Children of Ata. Maybe also Something Whispered. I believe Tuomas sometimes likes experimenting with melodic lines and unusual twists just for the sake of it. If you listened to the album he made with his wife a few years ago (Auri) there is also plenty of that to hear. My personal favourite albums remain Once and Imaginaerum.
That's fair enough! Once and Imaginarium are solid records for sure. I think that for me I loved the fact that it was more of a back to the 'band' approach that this one had you know? Really exciting and I do hope at some point we'll hear some tracks from this in a live setting! That would be great :)
Once really was a, if you pardon the pun, Once in a lifetime record for the band. I really love Endless Forms I have to say, that record is as close as we got to Once I think, though Yesterwynde definitely gives it a run for it's money!
I get the ideas Tuomas had with this album, but the final mix is just bad. Its muddy and lacking clarity. It sounds nothing like the band are claiming it does, 'part of the orchestra'. No sorry, its just a dull, narrow mix. The songs are great, the production is bad.
Oh really?! See I thought that the production on here was actually pretty good. Lots of clarity for me but then perhaps I don't have the same kind of ears haha - like you say though, the songs are brilliant and this was definitely a bit of a surprise for me but one that I really, really enjoyed!
I definitely think that this might well be the record that changes your mind this time. It’s a great return for sure and Floor especially has an outstanding performance throughout it!

One of their best. Ysterwynde has been on loop, these musical novels must to be listen to multiple times.

Great review
This album deserves it. It is not pop symphonic metal. It is heavy progressive symphonic metal. Awesome.
Thanks so much for the kind words my friend! I'm glad that you're a fan as well too. It's such a cinematic experience of a record I think.

I remember seeing Nightwish back in 2012 or 2011. I did not like their last ones but I will give this one a listen.
To be fair I think that the band are a bit of an acquired taste but I have got to be honest, when it comes to this kind of symphonic metal. They're just unbeatable! I love it. Thanks for checking out the video dude x
@@TheMetalTris plus Floor has an amazing voice.
The Weave is their most Avantgarde track
The Weave's section where Floor just fully goes for it is just fantastic isn't it!? Thanks for checking out the video!

Thanks ever so much! Appreciate the kind words and I hope you enjoyed the vide too :)
You should do a review of the best album of 2024 tris. Kanonenfieber 👍👍👍👍👍

Oddly I prefer Imaginarium and this.

My favourite album was Once, there has been good songs since , but not great albums

@@TheMetalTris Some songs are better than others Perfume is very dull sounding, but Lanternlight is fine.
Looking forward to hearing this. Love Floor as a singer, but I've found every album they've made with her has been poor.
This is absolutely the best album what they have done with her, in my opinion. Hard, heavy and still so beautiful.
Prefiro EFMB.
Tuomas holopainen falhou com a Floor Jansen.
