I'm 20 but I must say that I was raised up listening to kalapana and c&k...olomana and many many more of Hawaiis great musicians I'm thankful that I was raised up listening to this music one day when I have children I will pass this on to them cause I never want this music to be forgotten!
Night time, pretty lady, little bit of a buzz, sand between my toes, waves, salty air, bright stars, huge moon, Kalapana from the car radio...no mortgage, no bills, damn...good times.
Got introduced to Kalapana by my sister while in college. Saw them in concert at Fresno State Amphitheater in 1978. They were amazing... Best Hawaiian group ever... great memories
Right on brah! I’m 26 and born and raised in Waimanalo. Hopefully you’ve been able to come back and visit (I’m sure it’s drastically different today). Wherever you are just keep that Aloha in your heart. Hope life’s been good to you my braddahs 🤙🏽💙
Grew up listening to Kalapana and went to many of their concerts. Just breaks my heart to hear about Malani Bilyeu’s Death. And even worse how Mackey Feary took his own life while in Halawa Prison. Fighting those Demons. I had a pleasure of meeting him personally before I left the Islands and believe me he was the most compassionate person I have met. Rest In Paradise Malani And Mackey. 🙏🕊🖤
OMG!!!! I was stationed in Hawaii from 1976 to 1983 and was absolutely in love with the music at that time. It was as if a tidal wave washed over the islands and brought a flood of sound to us. Kalapana, Seawind, Celio and Kapono, Country Comfort, Olamano--they all were Kicking!!!! It didn't matter when you turned the radio on, the music flowed. Remember Kamasami Kong and "Whodaguy" Ron Jacobs?? Man I wish I could go back in time and relive those days again.
I never really listened to Kalapana until one day I listened to Naturally & found myself loving everything about their songs......... lyrics & melodys. The songs alone bring back my greatest memories of my Daddy. Thank you Macky Feary & Kalapana for the great music that I find comfort in when I'm missing my Daddy.
Matsumoto shave ice, must include azuki and ice cream. Pats at Puna lu'u, Kim Chee II, Crack Seed Store, Sushi from Woolworths, Kings Bakery, Dee-Lite and their over the friggin top Guava Cake and Coconut Cake, Hot Malasadas, Plate Lunch-must include potato or better yet, macaroni salad, (enough for about 6 people on one plate..haha, am I not right? Fun times, great memories. Thank you for posting this.
Takes me back to my hanabata days growing up in Hawaii listening to Kalapana albums on my dad's fancy console stereo record player. Rest in peace Malani Bilyeu.

this was such a special time in my life* so lost and mixed up...... this song brings it all back,, da good and bad.......... torn between two women but ended with the right one thank god........ but it was actually the best of times too*
What makes me most depressed is that Mackey was such a beautiful person and got so screwed over so badly by someone who he loved and could not bear to hang on. Also that he never received the writing praises nor commercial success that Kalapana were due. I can't blame him for giving up though this world has some dark forces lurking behind pretty faces, law makers and law enforcement sometimes. He really got a bad deal and his punishment truly did not fit the crime. Shameful of both his wife and the system. My only hope is that he is at peace and God's forgiveness was granted for his own suicide.
Kalapana...........love their music.............thi song brings back so many memories.......yes my kuu'ipo....For You I'd Chase A Rainbow...even though I stay fat now, I get hard time running, plus I color blind too, but freak 'em I going chase 'em anyway, like one freaking dog chasing me down the street ! :)
Right on Bruddah, only one more band that you and many others leave out, and that's *Summer* ....Summer, is/was a band that lived in the shadows of all the others , yet they had the same great sound, they made but one album in this same time period *Summer in Malibu* which to me is just as good a album as any other in the early to mid 70's...Google them...!!!
Ditto...knew members of Summer who lived few houses down from us...Alan Wong probably knew them too since we All lived in the same area for years till Summer of graduation from high school.
