Casting a Self-Skinning Foam Head With TC-284 Foam

- In this tutorial we cast 2 head props using 2 different foam casting techniques. For the first head we used TC-284 self-skinning foam by itself. For the 2nd prop, we "sloshed" a skin of FP-15 into the mold and followed it with TC-284. The 2nd method allows us to cast a complicated foam prop but still have a nice, bubble free skin.

Thank you Mitch!
You are welcome, Bruce!
FIRST YAY!!!!!! I have a question, have you ever seen the movie norbit? With Eddie Murphy, if you have could you tell me the best way to make a rasputia mask, she's the aggressive heavy set wife of norbit, Eddie Murphy plays as her, if I wanted an expressive face how could I get the effect of a gasp or a yell because obviously I can't make just a fat prosthetic because I don't have the same features of her so I'll have to make a full mask, so could you please tell me how to make an easy expressive effect with the mask, it most likely will be thick because of the double chin and etc, so if you could get back to me that would be great!!
awesome video
WOW,, love it,, amazing product,,,
thanks!
Hey Mitch, what's your criteria for choosing urethane over silicone (or vice versa) for the skin? I don't have a lot of experience with urethanes, I typically go the silicone route by default.
FP-15 is a good option for haunt props or film props like exploding heads. The main difference, besides cost, is UV resistance. FP-15 and PT Flex 20 are great skin materials for props but they will yellow if exposed to direct sunlight.
How does with compare to latex made props ? More durable ? Longevity ?
Different process altogether. Both approaches have their advantages. Typically a latex skin is used for larger props made from a gypsum mold. 284 is typically used to cast props from silicone molds or fiberglass molds. Self-skinning foam is a faster process but takes a careful casting approach to avoid air bubbles.
can you use a hydrocal mold with this foam?
Yes, but it MUST be properly released. One of the wax releases is best.
@@brickintheyard amazing thank you!
