I definitely need to chop and prop my oldest plant soon. It's a 10+ year old Rhipsalis spec. (possibly cereuscula) and it's getting out of hand haha. It's definitely not my favourite plant as I find it a bit too chaotic looking, but I had it for over ten years now, so at this point it has become a family member lol.

I would take the polyneura out of the bag. It’s well enough started it doesn’t need to be in a bag. Both linearis and polyneura love to be kept moist so pon or leca work well. I don’t have any of my hoyas in a cabinet and they are in room conditions. Very nice video
I have no proof for this assertion. But I’ve had plants like your chiapense that show signs of a pest (e.g., yellow leaves), but there’s no bugs to be seen on it. I believe these plants may also have flat mites on them! I’ve done pest management on them and seen good results!

I've rooted hoya in just soil before, even without the plastic bag situation! They're like succulents, in my experience. They just grow baby!

Yea, Your Cheapense doesn’t need to be in a cabinet an will probably do better out in reg room with good light. I use sphagnum moss to root Linearis all the time, so yours should do fine. Your Albo is gorgeous. Good luck with the props. 💚 Hope you do updates.
I recently chopped my Polyneura and Linearis too!! I actually used those same clear pots to do soil props on them both and water rooted some Linearis too for fun. On a whim, I turned a hurricane vase upside down over a clear saucer that has deep grooves to keep water in. Then, I sat the whole thing on a brightly lit shelf that gets some direct heat from the *DREADED* air vent! My Polyneura went bananas and I feel like it rooted so quickly! I haven't had any trouble propping my Linearis but it was slower going. Fingers crossed it'll take off more now that it's in the same spot as my Polyneura!
the first time I used sphagnum moss I was NOT prepared for the smell of seaweed/nasty ocean water, it does go away after the initial hydration, but boy was I not prepared for that.

I like to cut the bottom of planks to fit snuggly into the pot and the soil alone is usually enough to hold it in there. Sometimes I add some rocks if the plank is particularly long or the plant is top-heavy. Just go with a rot resistant wood and it will be great for years.

I would not recommend looping the twine around the stem first before you tie it to the plank, there is a chance the twine might choke the stem and leave a march when the stem thickens. It is always better if the plants leans against it instead of being trapped by it.
I move the ties around so often that that’s never happened to me but definitely for long term ties i wouldn’t do that. Also it’s very loose!
Loved this vid, thank you for sharing!! The good wicking cords are made from nylon, due to the fiber core inside (that's the bit that wicks). But, in my personal experience cotton cord works just as good when the water only has a short way to travel.
When I was new to sphagnum propagating, I let a few get too dry. I don't have them anymore lol.
I also have a bunch of syngoniums and find that they get root bound very very quickly! When mine start to get yellow leaves a repot usually does the trick!

I really enjoy your videos and have seen every one that came out since I subscribed last summer. Please show how you transfer the monstera cuttings to soil after they have rooted. I have a collection of rhipsalis I bought rooted in sphagnum moss about five years ago. I transferred them to soil and one died (waaah!) so I put them back in moss. They all made it but I think soil would be better for them long term. I bought a rhipsalis paradoxa last summer and it came in in soil. The paradoxa is fine so clearly they don't need sphagnum.

The pot you have your Linearis in is gigantic. Hoya like to be in smaller pots. I think that could be why yours doesn't look so good.
For the hoya linearis props, you shouldn’t put it in a terracotta pot. Keep using the butterfly method, put them in a clear pot, chunky soil and then put it in your IKEA cabinet. You’ll have huge success. I’ve propped mine big momma 5 times using this method.

Your Syngonym Chiapense looks SO different from mine. Mine is a deep rich matte, darker green. I have it on smallish a homemade fan trellis, in my living room, about 3 feet from a northeast window. It is thriving. It does have a longer bottom stem but looks so bushy, attached to this fan bamboo trellis. Your plant looks bleached out maybe too much light? Idk.. Thank you for the video!

Mine probably looks like this because too much light, yes! My grow lights are a bit strong I’ll be honest 😂
I recently chopped my El Choco. I have like 6 wet sticks and they are all showing new growth points! And your Chiapense looks like it may be getting a bit too much light...mine is so much darker! Maybe that's why you are getting yellow leaves? (That happens to me with my Frosted Heart when I miss a watering...)

Becca your syngonium chiapense should be completely fine out of the cabinet 😊 Mine sits in the kitchen, about 5 feet from a west window (gets some late afternoon sun) and it’s loving it’s life. Mine is about 5 feet tall now & the leaves keep sizing up!

I really want a non-variegated dark leaf Syngonium. Can the Chiapense trail like a vining plant or do they only grow vertically?
I agree. I think it’s getting too much light in a cabinet. Mine is a real dark green. It’s about 8 feet away from a grow light

@@writegirl2937 Right now it’s only 3 leaves. I’ve seen people have it on moss poles or some sort of support.
@writegirl2937 honestly I have never seen anyone grow these as a vining plant, mine is growing vertically with the support of a small bamboo pole :)
There’s no harm in trying to get it to grow as a vining plant, if it doesn’t work or you end up not liking it you can always grow it vertically :)

I have heard that Syngonium Chiapense need a LOT of nutrients. Maybe it is under-fertilized? I know you fertilize regularly but might be worth trying! 💕

Question: why use the wick if you fill the water up past the slots in the plastic cup? Also I believe Linearis is from the Himilayas so they like it cool; and need to not dry all the way out. Just info from other sources on line
It’s just so I don’t have to constantly fill the cup when the water line goes down, which happens quickly!
My mother in law gave me a bunch of cedar strips, like 3/4” wide and 1/4” thick. I use them for support on smaller plants but recently used them as the legs for one of my stakes. They have been very stable. Granted, I am not sure how much they would cost but if you have scrap wood, you can cut it to size which is what my late father in law did and then I cut them shorter to accommodate my pot depth.
I'm apologize in advance if you've covered this in another video, but is there a reason you use planks instead of moss poles? I've just heard so many people praise moss poles for big, mature growth so I'd love to hear your opinion on the matter!
I don’t want to have to water moss poles and I get the same big growth with the planks! They just need something to lean against, in my experience.

Not planning on selling them as of right now. I’ll probably gift one of them to a friend and pot the rest up with its mama!
I find that I need to bottom water my hoya otherwise the leaves don't unwrinkle when I water them. Mine have been much happier this way

It's confusing because sphagnum moss and "peat moss" are the same plant, but in different cycles. From what I've read trying to figure this out, sphagnum moss is considered reasonably sustainable in that it can be harvested and regenerated within a few years, without permanent damage to bogs and wetlands.
But digging out sphagnum peat moss is environmentally disastrous. That's the dead sphagnum that has died and sunk below, decomposing very slowly to form bogs over thousands of years, and those bogs are destroyed when the peat moss is removed. We need them to trap carbon. Mining peat moss releases the "greenhouse gas" carbon dioxide, and worsens climate change.
