I think the British audience will especially appreciate the drum and base. It's got more of a chance in the second semi final and the girl can CARRY a performance!
Yes. I think this is just the kind of song many British (and maybe Irish?) like and also would send to ESC. That's also why Britain did so badly. Until Sam came along, that is. In the Nordics, this feels outdated and I'm a bit surprised Iceland sends this.
I have a real soft spot for drum & bass because I listened to it a lot when I was younger, so this is really hitting it for me. I absolutely love her energy and how much power her voice has. I do agree that the staging feels lacking.
haha yea i actually said that in the original edit but took it out cos its more for SF prediction video. but yea i think Slovenia are the only country almost definitely through
I don't think you gave Diljá enough credit, but I can understand that since you don't like the song. Her vocal ability and performance chops are absurd for a 20/21yo girl. She is, in my opinion, by far the most impressive vocalist and performer so far this year. This song is VERY DIFFICULT to sing live, it's very hard to even carry it to the finish line with the heavy beat behind her, and she, more than carrying it, elevates it tremendously. She gives it power where it is needed and brings tenderness where it's necessary. Anyone else singing this song would have a much lower impact. She makes it exhilarating. Obviously, personally I really like the song and I really connect with the message, so I have some bias. It really pumps me up. It's perfect for one of those "confidence boosting" playlists. I really hope it qualifies, I can see it struggling, but I think she is too good not to qualify.
Didn't follow Songvakeppin this year, but I really like this. It reminds me of the kind of song I'd hear in the clubs when I was a student in the early-mid 2010s. The staging is undercooked atm, but if they bring a better concept to Liverpool I could definitely see this qualifying: she really does have a lovely voice.
In case you don't know: She actually covered "Hold Me Closer" as one of her favorite Eurovision songs on her YT-channel. So yes, she was kind of inspired by it.
Aww Tom…. Do agree with the staging but this is in my top 5 and can’t imagine it getting pushed out. But that’s the magic of Eurovision! Something for everyone! Cheers! Always enjoy the videos!
Well if they revamp the staging so that it is decent hey might get my vote. I don't think that studio version of the song is anything special but i really like her and her voice.
Btw I love the comment on another reaction video saying that Blanka is shaking and quivering over Diljá's talent and her performance. And it's true, when you put both side by side it's like those "X from wish" memes or "Expectation vs. Reality" ahah
This all feels a bit bland and low key for me Tom, also her stage presence is a bit jumpy and random. Iceland are one of the countries I look out for each year but this could have been from any country.
It's not bad but in a strong yeah like this even in semi 2 it's a not strong enough too dated for me and eurovision by numbers it's a shame as im going to Iceland in a couple of weeks
Are you on drugs? It is weak as hell year and 2 semi is as weak as last year's one which was weakest semi ever Anybody who can sing and will deliver would qualify Also for all televote semis dated or not doesnt matter, and i dont really see anything dated
The song is doing nothing for me and the staging is not existing. Her styling doesn't work at all for a stage like this. I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't even qualify.
Yeah the sound is very 2012ish in my mind, kinda DJ fresh vain but I don’t I mind that too much. I think I would like it a lot more if some verses were put into Icelandic.
I actually like her moving through the smoke but I agree that the flowers are weird imo. I think LED that gives off like galaxy-vibes and maybe some laser could elevate the staging a lot
Tom tom tom, she won!! I think she won because people liked her and the song and the way she portrayed the song, she fought to go to Liverpool I saw Iceland's final. You wanted someone else to win and it's you against the song, but you do you, love you still. Whether she goes to the final we ALL don't know. Drum and Base is still here and kicking it!! I just think her base needs to be up more clothing wise, keep the suit, she has the power!! She's young let her have her moment we know she had fun on that stage ☮❤
honestly, the song i liked in the final, i didnt even like that much😂, i havent even downloaded it. so i literally have 0 resentment against Dilja 🥰. i hope she kills it in Liverpool (but with better staging)
I agree with your point that it’s hard to pinpoint what doesn’t work. She has a lovely voice and is so energetic, but the drum and bass sounds like early apple studio laptop stuff or something. Can’t place it. I like her space buns and energy! I hope they can fill out the stage more for ESC. It seems like there is a lot to improve and I’m not sure a revamp would cut it. Unrelated note: both Dublin and Dallas have DART as public transit! Thought you’d like to know since you’re comin to us from Dublin and not somewhere in China or Guatemala! 😂
I think the melody is kind of repetetive. I agree the first 30 seconds are getting my attention but for me, it just feels a bit like the chorus is neverending. There isn’t much else for me but the beat and the chorus that just contiues the same way and doesn’t kind of evolve. Not my favourite this year but she has very good vocals.
i find the song and the performer cute, i kinda put this in the same bag with DK but at least she can sing but yeah i have to agree that objectively speaking it sounds kinda dated. would i vote for it? definitely not, it's just mid of the table and it will probably be for most people which might be the nail in the coffin; anyway, anybody who gets 10/10 in their semi 2 Q prediction this year is a monster 🤣
I see the strength of this entry being Dilha's personality Tom She seems fun Personally, i find her vocals, a little "screechy" and the song pretty basic but she "sells" the package as best as she can Musically, i don't mind the drum and bass. At least it gives energy. Will this qualify? If it was in semifinal 1, definitely not But semifinal 2?.......that's a maybe. Would bomb in the final though imo I wish her and Iceland well though 👏
Easy fix i reckon - just add some compressed electric guitar through the chorus and make it basically a Veronicas song. Still mostly like it how it is tho! Just a little flat in the chorus
I agree it was a mistake to switch to English. Any uniqueness was lost. She is trying too hard with that vocal. Maybe they should have chosen the skiffle band.
i loved their sound but that song was so poorly written. if theyd just had a good producer work with them, they could easily have made it less repttiive and workable
@@ESCTom Maybe they'll heed your advice and enter again next year! They were very likeable. (And, what was really weird, was that they were all of indeterminate age. Each member could have been anything from 21 to 61)
Fab voice, nice song, though not something novel, great interpreter. I agree with you with the drum beats and staging. They feel cheap. The staging does not tell a story. It feels a bit random. I just loved so much Systur last year, that this one feels quite underwhelming.
This is absolutely not Iceland's year. Sorry Tom, but our trip to Reykjavik will have to wait at least a year longer. Söngvakeppnin overall wasn't very interesting, and the winner is just.... there. As you say: who will vote for this? It feels dated and there's way too little progress after that nice start. She sings pretty well, she has a good energy, but staging looks very dull and I don't really see what they can do to elevate it. Might qualify from semi 2, but I feel it will struggle to come top 20.
yea i can see people liking it, but im still struggling to see how its going to have enough people who have it in their top 3 and actually vote for it. slightly similar to Ireland
I wish the song wasn't so tonally incoherent. To compare it to Cornelia Jakobs: her lyrics were about a doomed relationship falling apart and the mood she was projecting was resigned, all in harmony. Here, the verses are about her holding on to a doomed relationship, and the chorus is about sticking it to her partner (''you hold no power over me'') and she's really defiant, but we were given no indication how they wronged her.
Well actually this song is written about fear and mental health and is not a break up song so compairing Diljá's song to Colnelia's is not really possible
@@selmasbjornsdottir5204 ohhhhh, that makes a lot more sense 🫨 I googled the song a little to try and find English language explanations about it and I didn't see anything about it, so I just took it at face value

According to my current evaluation, Slovenia's entry appears to be the strongest among the entries competing in the SF2.

pls let Slovenia win this semifinal already I'd be so happy 😭
It was way better in icelandic because " Po po po power" Sounds really cringe and the same part sounds haunting and misterious in icelandic
yea i wish she'd kept some icelandic
