I like Odin, he always had an eye out for new knowledge
Ba Da Boom.
Good one
Ba dam tSSSS
Ouuhh that's a good one
OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Marvel Odin: Lost his eye in battle against Frost giants.
Myth Odin: Sacrificed his Eye for wisdom.
But in comics odin sacrificed his eye for wisdom as well
Both seem Epic
@@vaibhavzunjare5907 I meant MCU Odin. Excuse me for not writing that in comment😅
@@4pex681 And yep they are.
@@fridanystrom6463 yeah I know what you were talking about ......... I was just telling what odin did in comics .... just for extra knowledge
imagine if the uncle said at the end: true wisdom is knowing not to throw your eye in a well
Bruhhh🤣🤣🤣
In a lot of other myths and possible narrations that is exactly what would've went down.
HAHAHA this would be perfect
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
“Odin gave his eye to acquire knowledge but I will give way more”-Ragnar Lodbrok
Lothbrok*
@@AyaanKhan-lj8jg you can spell and or pronounce them either way. So he and you are both correct
He said "Would" give far more, not "'will" 😜
@@AyaanKhan-lj8jg in old norse it's spelled "Ragnarr Loðbrók", none of you are correct.
@@paean84 Old nordics would spelt it like : ᛚᚬᛏᛒᚱᚬᚴ : so you are all wrong.
To be willing to sacrifice an eye for knowledge, that's such a brave move, worthy of respect. Hail Odin the Allfather!
Bro he never existed
Although we know little about the execution of Norse faith, the Hailing of Odin was something almost definitely not part of it. More ironically, Hailing is a much more submissive way of experiencing god(s) that comes from Judeo-Christian perspective, and from societies in which power was much more centralized, so is a very non-Norse thing to do.
@@НекиЛик-х2г Same can literally be said about any religion they’re just stories
@@НекиЛик-х2г If that’s the case then Jesus/God didn’t either
@@jfoolywitatooly29 thats cap
Rip out your eye to see clearer. What a man! Praise thee Alfather, Odin!

Praise Odens mama
There is only one God
All hail Lord Havi.
Unlike Zeus, Odin is a real *chad* .
Zeus could have been a chad too if he was loyal to his wife but sadly he isn't
Zeus had his chad moments too ngl
That's not true
Not when you see it from the giants perspective no
Yeah but both mythologies are descendants of one same religion.
I like the myth of Huggin and Munnin.
"Everyday the Allfather sends his 2 Ravens Huggin and Munnin across midgaurd in search of knowledge. Odin says he fears one day Huggin(thought may never return, but he fears more so for Munnin(memory)"
That's a powerful message right there especially as we get older and we naturally begin to lose our memory.
Odin fears more losing his memory than his thoughts.
A wise God never seeks war, but must always be ready for it
- Odin (MCU)
Such mythical stories empowers me in a way I can't explain
me too and i'm from the place where these stories came from
Mythology is supposed to be one of two things.
a) Real stories about supernatural creatures.
b) An archetype of the human psyche (See Carl Jung works).
So it makes sense if you connect with some of the characters.
@@humanity600 I kinda do myself, this may be coincidental but i'm half blind in my right eye and sharp visioned in my left eye
@@HaakonTheRayquaza then feeling connected to Odin in some way would make perfect sense. 👍💯
@@humanity600 I've seen his work I'm a psychologist.
Mimer: I was just kidding never thought he actually do it, but I guess I have to keep my word.
This is such a badass story
I love how you portray these stories... Awesome work... Huge fan.. Keep it up💯
In the actual sagas, Oden's eye ends up in helheim, but Oden is still able to see out of it. So the knowledge Oden attains, is the knowledge of what is happening presently in helheim
Correct
Oden died in Wano i thought
What an interesting story.
Actual myth: Odin paid an eye to gain wisdom
God of war: Odin was high and plucked out his own eye
This probably is the most painful myths I ever heard...
Ohh boy you haven't heard of the myths of Karn, Bhishma and many others in Hindu mythology. It's a shame this channel stopped making stuff about Hinduism.
Wait till you hear the one where Odin impales himself with his own spear.
@@abhinavneoharysvarma8551 it’s just too ridiculous, I tried to get into it but it’s just too ridiculous in a way I can’t even explain it.
@@HazWolverine Aight tell me which part you read or watched, I'll try to help you a bit.
Is anyone gonna tell them how Loki attempted to make Skadi laugh?
I truly love your channel. Keep doing the best work.
The point of this old norse story is that to achieve full wisdom you have to go through pain and suffering
I'm absolutely loving this series. The art, the narration, the story is all just so great. I found myself on an adventure searching different names and key words i'm hearing in the video, and I've ended up with 11 tabs worth of reading. It's so much fun, thank you for this.
Thank you for making these videos I've learnt quite a bit.
I love the human aspects of the gods. At times, their actions seem grandiose and otherworldly and at other times they seem like ordinary people. They require apples to keep their youth, they aren't immortal, they're fooled every so often and are always met with other god like entities with no clear origin. In my mind, Odin could've simply have been tricked into gouging out his own due to having killed Ymir as revenge. If I had lost an eye and was expected to be king of gods I'd definitely say something along the lines of "i see way better than before." Mysticism aside, a lesson was learned and likely never to be repeated. One could claim to "see more clearly" and not be lying!
the fundamentals of the story is that looks may be deceiving. in order for someone to acquire true knowledge, he must not always believe what is to be seen, because it may be biased by one's own views or by a hallucination. in order for someone to seek true knowledge, one must see behind the curtains, without having to move the curtains. that is the truth about wisdom.
or
the truths that the well would provide, could blind odin, metaphorically or literally, and with having "less eyesight", one could not be blinded by what one's perceive.
@@constantinebougioukos2175 a fantastic follow-up! The mythos is so jarring, I suspect people miss what is to be learnt. Epic nonetheless 😅
respect to both you you for such keen observation
Who does the artwork for your videos? They're amazing!
Marcus aquino does them it say it on their description page
Moral : Wisdom has a very high price tag
Odin: I’m not like Zeus I won’t hook up with you for 4 hours, impregnate you, leave you, and then let my wife torment you. I prefer smart woman, and I can take it as slow as you want, only problem: eye kinda need to know everything
from what I know (the edda) Mimir isnt Odins uncle, just a troll who'd found the well beneath one of Ygdrasils roots (the root reached into the well giving it its powers of wisdom) and became Odins best friend after their encounter, Odin even send him to aid another aesir god rule over the vanir after their second war with them but still super dope video
Mimir is Jotunn and is Bestla's Brother, so that does make him Odin's uncle.
I thought Mimir was already beheaded by the time they reached the well.
The art is so awesome.👍👍
I love the classical music
I love norse mythology
What’s the music in the background?
I learned so much of Norse Mythology from playing God of War. Thanks Mimir.
So much of the Norse mythology provoked in God Of War is inaccurate
@@nooooplease7060 their own version of North mythology and it's up to interpretation
If all I had to do was give my eye for infinite knowledge I would.
Mhm, I realy love this myth about Odin and always when I read it again I ask Myself, if it would be worth it to sacrifice an eye for wisdom. Most of the time I think it would.
Even if it wasn't. You will be wiser afterward
Very good!
I like this kind of short video, very well explained
Odin plucks out his eye. My eye says "Hey I'm just going to be itchy right now."
Is there any Nordic name for Odin's lost eye
Yes I’m so excited I can’t wait to watch this I am so excited seriously these comics are the best
Name of background music
Yes
There is a dialogue in Thor the Ragnarok movie where Odin tells Thor that with both eyes he saw only half and the view is now clear with one eye or something like that (even though he lost his eye in a war with frost giants in MCU)
So the head that dangles from the bloody ghost of Sparta is Odin's uncle? Awesome.
awesome video and may i ask what the music is called?
some of the videos i watch about various mythologies have really good music
The background music is just awesome. Where I can find that music/song?
" the eye of the high one, has seen the dawn of gods, in the well of Mimir, Through the flight of Ravens....
this guy prounonces names as if he was still in fifth grade yet has the info capacity of a grand library.
This needs to be released as a comic! Take my money
I really don't mean to be "that guy" but... it was his right eye which was sacrificed :)
Not only that but Odin hung himself for 9 days at the roots of yggdrasil for even more knowledge.
Remind me of rune king thor marvel comic
0:20
My brain started yelling "ITS GANDALF" 😂
Gandalf's appearance was inspired by descriptions of Odin in his wanderer guise. So technically, Odin was the original wizard.
Sadly he was boiled to death by the yonkou named Kaido and now his son is avenging his death and tryining to open the borders of Wano kuni
This looks so so so so so crazy I can’t wiat for thsi story love it
Odin : and that's how I lost my eye. Thor and Loki being traumatized
Even more epic is how Odin lost his car keys…
Mimir himself was blind he wanted Odin's eye so he could see
That's some banging background music 😅😂
About 60 years ago I had a Newfoundland..a friend had a Great Pyrenees.. we were about 10 years old. Friend named her dog Odin. we sure turned heads when people saw 2 tiny young girls w the HUGE dogs.
I'd love to know the background music name its so epic
Music name??????
You should do a continuation of this by telling the story of when he hanged himself on Yggdrasil for knowledge.
You can actually play the entire scene in assassins creed Valhalla
Mimir: Gee thanks, it's not like I don't still drink from there!
I red a book called Viking boy
... and henceforth Óðinn was called 'Helblíndi', 'Hel-Blind', for he could see beyond the veils of Death Herself and gaze where few others could.
And then he killed Sigmund for no reason 😎
So does anyone know how to explain, how this story taught the children of sailors how to use the moon to navigate.
What's the name of the music in the background
Zeus flirts around
Odin faithful to wife
Rune king Thor from the comics gave both his eyes
The way he says mimir is bugging me
Can u make one norse story about thor and the walls of asgard
"It's all fun and games, until someone loses an eye."
i wish my teachers would put on videos like this it would make English way better.
To be able to sacrifice an eye is to be able to look at oneself from the inside. The water is the emotions, the water is what's unshaped and yet moves freely. From the water many things grow: a tree, the air your breathe: that's why the air to be breathable it has some hydrogen. That's why the water is also breathable.
I guess we now can….SEE why Odin tortures Mimir~
YAAAAAAAAAAA 😎
Hail Odin!
Odin all father he is such a curious like ragnar lothbrok
is 'Mymar' the smartest man alive Mimir? like pronunciation
Kratos: now time for the second one
Kinda remind me of naruto, how eye plucking is just another day for them
You know something they never tell you what happened to Odin's eye after he threw it into the water
That explains his missing 👁
Sources?
Eye for wisdom
If Odin met Tai Lopez, he would still have both eyes.
So what is actually the correct pronunciation? MEEmir or MYmir?
please i need to see this comic book, whats the title
Curiosity blinded the cat
Even after having nearly Infinite wisdom, the supreme lord of the universe couldn't see through the end of time....so much for being the God of Gods
What about the crows?
This how Odin is one eye Odin is also Godrel or God G also called as Zeus and Enlil I'm sumerian also hadad and Baal or bel in Canaan also crom in cimmerian and also indra in ancient Hindu and tengre in ancient mongol also Jupiter in ancient Roman he was the storm deity and thunder of destruction the supreme arch angel cherubim who gave eve the fruit of knowledge,,,the rival enemy of sea water deity of life and preservation samyza also called as Enki and posiedon also Neptune and yam in ancient Canaan also Vishnu in Hindu the supreme arch angel who guided Adam and his children .
All hail the mighty all father odin
100 th one to like
Like how Eren Jaeger stabbed his own eye. Crazy.
Eren can heal his eyes in seconds. You should see how many times Sasuke sacrificed and lost his eyes like many times even been stabbed by a child
God of War version of Odin scares me
The good news and bad news for Oden.
The bad news he pull out his own eye, OUCH!👁🩸💥💥
But the good news he didn’t pull out his right eye out and got some Wisdom!!👍🌌🌌🧠😎
Ah, Odin the mad bastard that did anything for knowledge such as strangling Gora in her own library while hiding the dead corpse of her husband, hanging himself on Yggdrasil with a spear through his gut for 9 days, became a hermit and got imprisoned for a couple years by a king, gouging out his own eye, and even imprisoned mimir in a tree for all eternity.
"Mimer" it is mimir
Mimir?
