I'd go as far to say it's probably one of the most beautiful songs written& sang by an Irish artist in the last 50 years . it's absolutely beautiful. stunning . I'm completely blown away by its beauty & will forever be entranced by it .
Declan O'Rourke: "I know, I'll write a song about a famous historic figure. Must do my research..." Opening line: "Galileo fell in love as a Galilean boy.." Yeah well done there, Declan. Galileo wasn't from Galilee, he was from Florence. Talk about falling at the first hurdle.
Dear Declan O'Rourke... how the FNCK did you manage to write something this like? As a former musician... This leaves me in awe!! This is truly one of the greatest songs that has ever been written... Like... I don't think you even... realise how enormous it is!! You are genius... absolutely genius, and I bow to your talent
Just an hour ago I discovered this treasure the last score of the tv series Monroe and was so smitten I looked it up online. Since then I've listened to it several times here and am so jealous anyone could be that gifted to write one of the most beautiful songs ever written by man in any generation, and to be able to sing it too?!!.
This man is a genius and a really nice guy. As an Irishman I feel proud that an Irish man can write something this poetic and beautiful......what wonderful lyrics, mesmerising musical creation and enchanting fairytale elegance
There is not a word or phrase that I can think of to show how beautiful the lyrics or melody of this song is - it sings to your heart and soul. Declan, you are a pure Genius/Song writer/poet, thank you - Orla E.
He did this one on the transatlantic sessions . Not only a delight for the ears but wonderful to also watch it being played amongst a collection of other fine musicians.
I heard Mary Byrne's recording of Galileo and loved it. It led me here to hear the original which I'm so glad that I did. ... Can't wait to hear more of Declan's songs.
So this was written by Declan O'Rourke? Heard it for the first time last night and i googled it and josh grogan came up. Declan O'Rourke has an angelic voice. 💖💖💖
I found this song because Paul Weller, when asked, said this is the song he most wishes he had written. High praise in my opinion, I'm so glad because otherwise I'd have never found it, it's beautiful
Heard this for the first time last week at an Eddi Reader concert in Stockton. Sat there with tears running down my face, holding my wife's hand. What an unbelievably beautiful song. Can't stop singing it, whistling it, etc. Eddi's version was moving but Declan's original is simply stunning. John Perkins

Irishmman here, and with all the wonderful music and poetry that has come from our small country for hundreds of years, this song, for me, is one of the greatest ever to emerge from our island. And I don't say this lightly. Simply sublime.
@@bighands69 I plan to learn it, and I saw it offered in a learning program on Amazon, so many know about it enough for it to be marketable to the niche of language lovers at least.
We used it at our wedding in Italy ..a friend played it for us....used it after a reading by Carl Sagan about Galileo ....and couldn’t have been more perfect
Not just one of the best irish songs of all time, but one of the best songs of the last 50 years sinatra, Cole would have recorded this song it's a masterpiece. Wish I had written it 😀
I first heard this a few years ago. It really is one of those perfect songs. In my humble opinion it’s right up there with nobody knows by Brian Wilson. If he were to do nothing else he would’ve given us this masterpiece.

Found this song in Chloe Agnew's album. She did a cover of the song. I'd say it's one of the sweetest songs I've ever listened to...made me cried. Huge respect to Declan O'Rourke.
Lyrics: Galileo fell in love as a Galilean boy And he wondered what in heaven who invented such a joy But the question got the better of his scientific mind And to his blind and dying gaze He looked up high and often sighed And sometimes cried Who puts the rainbow in the sky Who lights the stars at night Who dreamt up someone so divine Someone like you and made them mine Love can make you ask some funny questions now and then But just remember the alternatives for I remember when I was lonely and unhappy And my lips were cold as ice But you kissed me, and good heavens Now I'm here in paradise So if ever I'm not kissing you or looking in your eyes I won't be blind, and I won't cry I'll look up high and gladly sigh And thank the guy Who puts the rainbow in the sky? Who lights the stars at night? Who dreamt up someone so divine? Someone like you and made them mine? Someone like you and made them mine?
