Sounds like Brymen may have a fix. I'm surprised that they responded this quick, but it also sounded like they had a good idea where the problem was when I first wrote them.
While I offered to change the microcontroller, they have shipped a new meter. I should have an update in a few days for you.

Awesome response from Brymen....I personally think it is primarily because of YOUR initial findings Joe. I wonder if Dave has actually had a chance to even find similar issues as you have.
I am now pretty convinced that Brymen is keeping a very close tab on what you are reporting about these meters and they also are probably getting some substantial and valuable info from you on how to bolster up their products...👊🏽...awesome job Joe. You earn my respect more and more with every post you make on these meters...🙂👍🏼

Fluke 87V has Bar Graph Zoom Mode. In the mode bar graph shows relative value when rel-button is activcated. Zero value is at center of bar graph and range of bar graph is tenth of meter's active range. This helps when tuning a circuit to zero or peak.
You can enable Zoom Mode by holding rel-button while turning the meter on. While you are measuring value you want to set as zero press rel to activate relative mode and relative zoom bar graph.

The Fluke 189 can also scale the bargraph using the Rel.

I was waiting for the battery to drop out when making this video. Takes overnight to recharge it. Of course, I have to use my AC wall adapter because they don't supply one with it for the USA. Of course, you can't use the meter when it is charging so maybe we could just drop in new batteries.... Oh wait.... Besides the UT210E, this UT181A is my favorite UNI-T product. It's pretty well made and with it being a clone of the Fluke 289, it's easy to drive. It has a lot going for it. Too bad they just didn't go the extra mile.

Looks like Brymen has made another good one, although that auto range problem is a odd one. I do hope Dave picks a Brymen. I'm not into the 121GW it seems to have a lot of little bugs that a meter at it's price point shouldn't have.

The BM786 isn't made to order like the 121GW, it's an existing Brymen model.

Very scary & surprising that BM786 shows a 50V+ signal as < 5V. That could be dangerous! Also the Crest factor rating of BM786 (only 1.6 @ Full scale) is surprising. I would have expected 3 or more.

    Great videos Joe.
Have you seen new Uni-T multimeters? UT191, UT195, UT17B PRO? What do you think about them? From inside inspection looks like they have upgraded protection. Any chance you could have a look at them in the future?
Thanks for your hard work, very educating.

I haven't considered looking at another UNI-T product as they have always performed poorly against my tests. Just a quick glance at the 191, I see the shared current voltage input. I have my doubt already.
I have looked at more UNI-T products than any other. If they were to improve the UT181A, I would invest the time to revisit it. That's really the only meter they offer at this time that I am interested in. Well, if they would make a higher quality version of the UT210E I would also be interested. Switch failures are becoming more common now as they age.
