Kitchen ke liye u can use glossy laminates. Now a days acrylic and crystal laminates are a very good option. Counter top ke liye the oldest thing is granite. But with change in time now Quartz and G5 nano white is a very good option.
Pastel shades already gives u a colourful concept of ur room. so u can use neutral light shade wallpaper or if u love colours in ur room then u can go for maroon or dull red wallpaper.

I think this is not a good option. Chess board texture is very heavy in nature and it creates illusion too on wall
