My mother would slice up tomatoes, cucumbers and grate carrots. She would arrange them in a circle on a plate. Salt and pepper and then make her own vinaigrette to put on top. The last thing she would do is grate two eggs over the top with a cheese grater.

Emmy can you please try different "weird" seasonings like black Himalayan salt, everything but the bagel seasoning, nooch, that thyme salt from Aldi that's a cult favorite, tajin, butter seasoning (like for popcorn) etc! You could do it all on avocado toast as a base since that takes seasoning well. I eat black salt all the time it's my favorite but most people don't know about it or think it's weird because it smells of sulfur. I think it's deliciously eggy and goes great on potatoes, tomatoes, and oddly enough with eggs lol.

I can't wait to try all these flavors! My go-to for my avocado toast is mash half an avocado and spread it onto buttered toast, then sprinkle some Himalayan salt and onion powder, and nestle a soft fried or poached egg on top so I get that runny yolk. Grating looks like a great way to get some yolk into every bite

But, I usually just use my egg slicer and place slices of hard boiled egg on top of my avocado mash on the toast. I lightly smashvtge avocado with a fork so the avocado will adhere better to the toast and not slide off...as always, I throughly enjoy your videos.

I make a sandwich with grated egg and salted butter. I pound some pepper in a pestle and mortar and I add that to softened salted butter. Then I add coriander/ cilantro leaves to the butter. I whip it a bit to make it slightly frothy and incorporate all the ingredients. Then I add grated or finely chopped boiled eggs(2-3) and gently fold it in the butter. Then I add the filling to the plain or toasted bread and eat it.

Another little trick I learned from my dad, was to add a little vinegar to the water when you boil eggs, and if they crack, the vinegar will seal it up to stop the white from escaping out. I also use the spoon to remove my egg shell ,which I learned from my dad as well! 🙂

The thing about steaming eggs is that the shallow amount of water needed for steaming comes up to temperature a lot faster than a full pot of boiling water. They have very similar cook times and results. The difference is how much water you need and how long that water takes to boil.
I'm impatient. So I prefer the steaming method.

    That looks lovely
I wonder how it would be with parsley, too.
    Maybe with Worcestershire or lemon?

I use a box grater for boiled eggs when I make egg salad, it's so much faster and easier than mashing them with a fork... and also if you like celery or pickled anything in your egg salad, grate that in too too!
Also the instant pot makes very nice consistent boiled eggs, once you figure out how much water for how long. Mine always crack when I start with boiling water (even when I poke a hole in the end with the air bubble) and I find it's inconsistent for soft boiled eggs to start with cold water. Instant pot for the win, taking the guesswork out of it...

Hi Emmy. If you like marmite, you should try Bovril. Bovril is my favourite. I spread a thick layer butter and then the bovril or I mix the bovril and butter together before speading it on crackers.

Ok Emmy you might find this as a surprise but had to find your newest video. I hope this finds you and your family well and happy as I am a new grampa. I love to cook and was raised to cook only my brother and I but we learned canning cooking and all household chores. I watch your videos for cooking of course but as a combat veteran with PTSD I find your videos very helpful lol. When you posted the thrift store bread maker I was shocked I used this very bread maker years ago as I'm 55 now old guy but found one and it's great thanks for the memories and wonderful bread. I paid more for mine but used the old one for years can't remember what happened to it but never the less thanks. If you still use yours or anyone else that might have on try this recipe.
    1 1/4 cup milk
    2 tsp salt
    1 1/2 tbsp butter
    2 tbsp maple syrup
    2 cups bread flour white
    1 cup wheat flour
    1 pack yeast active dry
    White bread setting
    Thanks again Emmy

I have an avocado tree so I have all the avocados I want when they're in season, about 4 months of the year. Over the years I've tried avocados all kinds of ways, but my favorite is avocado toast. I have almost every morning. I will definitely be trying these variations.
I've added wasabi to guacamole, mainly because I'm allergic to chilies and tomatoes, so my guacamole needs something to give it a kick.
I've got some Marmite, so I'll give that a try, too. I generally only use Marmite to add umami to meat mixtures. Marmite toast is a bit salty for me, but the avocado would help cut the saltiness.
I sometimes make egg salad with avocado in place of mayo. It's tasty, once you get past the green eggs vibe, Sam-I-Am.
I sometimes have avocado toast with a hardboiled egg on the side. I don't know why I never put it on top.
You know, I bet some capers on top would be good, too.

Steaming eggs is the only way I can consistently get them to peel easily. I wish I had learned to do it this way 30 years ago. Even fresh eggs peel easily.

Ever since my childhood my parents have made a dish they call pepper pot, I think it’s Indonesian? It’s a rich tomatoey beef stew served with egg noodles, then we add grated egg, cashew nuts, sliced banana and little cubes of apples to it. I think my parents had it in a restaurant in Leicester (uk) in the 1970s and have been making it ever since. It was a regular on our table growing up so I never thought it was strange to add these bits to a dish, but now I’m older it does seem a bit of an odd concoction!

I worked in a restaurant that had Avo toast as a brunch item. We would put an herb pesto below the avocado. It was really really good. Would highly recommend.
If you want an egg on avo toast, I would suggest a fried or poached egg with a runny yolk, because the bread soaks up the runny yolk. Have yet to try shaved hard boiled egg though.

Sounds similar to grating Spam. Grated and pan fried Spam is awesome in so many ways. I add a tsp of cilantro and use it in sandwiches with provolone and mustard or in fried rice!
