Did he specify that you should play as Colin? I'm thinking maybe this is a penalty match for that one time when "Head of JTQWN" accidentally picked Colin to play as. He then had to lose to Colin as penance for that mistake. 😆 Or... win against Colin? That part still confuses me, tbh.
I think Sensei has shown that Colin isn't untouchable, and now players are inspired to spam infantry against Colin, negating the firepower he's able to field with SPAM, blocking all of Colin's production by base-locking.
@@epicgamerzfail4575i think what they're saying is that you can use your infantry to weaken Colin's income as much as possible (especially sensei with his disgusting 40% infantry firepower) Pretty much harass Colin's infantry early game as much as possible because he's weaker than yours, if you can't get an income lead to tour properties, then you can never match Colin's income thus increasing your chances of losing the match, you can do this with any CO like here in the vid, with the exclusion of Jess since she has the same infantry as Colin.
I think i see 'how' Koal was able to beat Collin in this, and JTQWN took advantage of the CO Collin's gameplan, where they save money and then spend it on high tech vehicles/strong units. Because collin's cheaper units allow him to spam tanks/artillery/medium tanks and everything else more cheaply, he doesn't spend on infantry on the turns he pops the gold rush even at a income disadvantage, whereas because JTQWN got the income advantage thanks to his capture game. But because Collin likes to spend on stronger units, and doesn't want to build infantry when you could get say '3 medium tanks' on 1 turn with a battle chopter, why would you buy an infantry if your that far ahead? Koal however, 'has' to buy an infantry, notice how he buys 1 every turn, the leftover cash from buying high tier forces leaves him enough just for infantry, so his capture game is still strong even when both sides are fielding tanks/artillary/chopters/even bombers, whereas Collin runs out of infantry quickly as he doesn't wanna spend his turns rebuilding infantry when he could be buying medium tanks and such. so as the going got tough, while Collin was 'still' struggling to finishing capturing the north, Koal had already begun fielding 'more' soldiers and was doing the victory march, using the freshly built forces to reinforce his frontline, keeping up the pressure and 'forcing' collin to slow down his infantry rebuild/capture to build more high tier units... thus catching him in the dooomed if dont/do plan, if he builds infantry to assist his surviving infantry with capturing the properties, he lacks tanks/artillary/anti-air/bombers etc to hold the aggressive, if he builds said forces, his capture game slows down and now instead of being -5k income he's at -10k income, to the point even his massive bank can't save him, which we saw~
This seems like a good summary of the big reasons Koal was able to win, as well as being well positioned to take advantage of every super power he had with the +2 movement letting him get much further than the colin player was expecting and hit units he thought were safe, as well as be able to reach base to block them faster or just capture sooner because of infantry moving farther
That is something I see a lot in games reviewed by Mangs and Deejus - often player winning vehicle fight ends up with no infantry to actually get something out of the win, while allowing opponent to get back in the game. I feel that one of the underestimated reasons why transport openers are surprisingly strong is that people look only on early economical effect from them and not how much more threats it allows to generate. If you do not have infantry on the frontline, you have no threats and cannot win. Maybe one day we will see vehicle walls around infantry outside of Sami shenanigans.
Sounds like a good explanation. I also think Colin's Coms Tower rush at the beginning further weakened his capture game, just to make his units a bit stronger (JTQWN defended the CT quite well) when he was supposed to have the tech advantage anyway. That could have made a difference for his infantry... If he'd sent them to capture properties to begin with. He also probably sacrificed too much to get power charge, trading unit count and positioning for tech.

Of course I wish you a speedy recovery, but I kinda like this sort of subdued style of commentary. Usually you raise your voice a lot, but here you're keeping it fairly level and I'm enjoying that.
Some games just can't handle certain archetypes. Look at how OP card advantage is in Yu-Gi-Oh versus the Pokémon TCG for example. Offsetting Colin's logistical advantage is very difficult indeed without going too far and making him useless.
i guess to a lesser extent there are characters like Sami, obviously being able to capture better means more money, or Max, who can often get an early advantage with his stronger units, especially when you compare them to Eagle and Olaf who are in the same tier and they prefer to instead come from behind with super strong CO powers even if they fall behind on income before that point
@ I would argue she would drop very far down in tier if not for her D2D. The entire point of her power is to deny your opponent theirs for as long as possible, occasionally get a 10% defense boost (usually playing against CO's like Hawke and Von Bolt who have consistent D2D benefits that outweigh that), and rely on the income advantage to field more/higher tier units against your opponent. Without the income advantage she has no competitive edge. Unfortunately that income advantage is a fixed value instead of percentage, so it becomes far less valuable in high funds. But in standard she is a balanced economic focused CO, and you can't really do more than that without it becoming unbalanced. You could also argue the lower tier economic focused CO would be Sami. Her early game infantry + mid game victory march gives her opportunities to get a big economic lead.
I'd like to see a more detailed analysis on this match, it just didn't make any sense. You did a good commentary, but there were very few deeper analytical insights, probably because of your current condition, but this match would've really needed them. Also, I don't think you noticed, but on day 14 Colin had 5 com towers over Koal's 1. I don't remember if that has ever happened in these casts.
FedoraReshiram's post a few comments up explains it pretty well. To put it simply, Koal kept up the pressure and took advantage of Colin's gameplan. He took away his infantry on a CO that constantly wants high tier units and was able to keep up the capture game while Colin began to struggle at it. Eventually being able to roll him over.
My takeaway is that Koal focused on getting income advantage over firepower, and attacked colins infantry at every single opportunity. This gave colin a dillema. While he has a bunch of money from his power to buy big units, he also needs to replace his infantry that he keeps losing, but he doesnt have enough bases to do both. This to me, proves that unit count beats firepower, especially from com towers.
Beautiful game! Insane to see colin with 4 com towers. Insane how he still lost! Great agression! really fun match. Thank you for bringing it to us even while sick, hope you get better soon!
Wow, what a match! Perhaps another reason JTQWN sent you the replay is because he made the map? Insane to match though--it was almost like watching Kanbei beat up Colin (aggression, income denial), but with Koal! :)
I think AA01Blue's mistake was going for the comm towers so soon instead of getting as much income as possible in the early game. JTQWN exploited that and maintained his aggression via greater income throughout the match.
You better get well fast Mangs. You aren't the same like this. This was a fun map. Unlike everyone else I forced my opponent to resign by grabbing every contestable property on the map. Why commit my forces to a risky base rush when I can just secure the middle and sides and crush him on income instead?
AA01blue already lost by day 5 after building a T copter and an Artillery. JTQWN was making more infantry to have a huge income lead right from the beginning.

Regarding rockets - I don't think there is any other way to interrupt last lab capture at this point, and even then all it does is delaying inevitable by one more day.
I'm nowhere near the level of either of these players, but my gameplan with colin would've been to start tank threats as early and on as many fronts as possible, because your opponent can't respond to them all, and then push the front where your opponent falls behind. I think by going for the com towers he lost the initiative and allowed jtqwn to decide where to fight.
I think the major mistake was going all-in on comm towers. That always bites me hard. Especially on many-tower maps like this one, because you think having 3 or 4 towers will make you unstoppable, but it's usually not worth the big income (and often unit) sacrifice. Also as Colin it seems like you should prioritize income due to how it synergizes with his powers to have high income. Of course this is all easy to say in retrospect. AABlue has a much higher Elo than me.

That Comm-tower advantage cost him a lot in terms of his cap phase. Yeah, he had 2 more comm towers than he should have, but also like 5 less properties. And with Colin, his income is crucial to get the snowball rolling. That and JTQWN attacking his infantry very efficiently forced him into a state, where Colin didn't really have that much money until it was too late and the bases were lost.

That Comm-tower advantage cost him a lot in terms of his cap phase. Yeah, he had 2 more comm towers than he should have, but also like 5 less properties.
