Now very expensive - because he fry big wok - the lap cheong & prawn not evenly distributed + also no more cockles, though it taste alright. My last order tar pau was a big plate for $7/- but only 2 thin slices of lap cheong & 3 small prawns - not worth it.
You all can try his elder brother's stall at the old BM market taxi stall - taste classic.

Many years ago he cooked it plate by plate, and the taste was superb.
nowadays inflation problem. If plate by plate , his business income will be influenced especially the cost of charcoal, so no more plate by plate

Looks really nice, but I really hope he puts the Prawns and Cockles (if available) in first before the Rice Noodles so that they come out well cooked...
I like my Prawns and Cockles really well done to the point that they are really rubbery and bouncy...also you don't have to worry about any bacteria or parasites infecting you...

The last time I had cha kuey tiaw in penang was the last time I had food poisoning. I never had a problem with teochew kuey tiaw though.

This is the original way. Use duck egg to fry. Used to have it in the past many decades ago. Now I can't find it in Singapore anymore. Only in Malaysia.

@@davidchiang100 wok hay is smoky smell from using iron wok (wok is griddle, frying pan if you're familiar with those words) and big flame.. Usually Chinese Food has this wok hay, smoky smell..

Per plate shouldn’t be too expensive in Malaysian ringgit in Penang. So, I guess may be around RM5 selling per plate or take home packet🎉😂.

It's Kulim in Kedah, not Penang! Different state and the cook is not even Hokkien! I can see the prawns are added later so the flavor is from the bottles of black soy sauce probably infused with either oyster sauce or msg. There is no cockles and green chives, sacrilegious! People outside of Penang shd stop calling their dish PENANG Char Koay Teow, just drop the Penang name. Will still go and try and comment if good or bad...tourists from out of state or country will not know the true taste like eating pineapples on pizza!

This is called an expensive version of economy koay teow. Cook a batch of koay teow just like economy koay teow and put aside. The only difference is he put prawn, duck egg and pork lard.
