SMASHING OUR AVERAGES: On our 40yr old steel yacht - Sailing the Whitsundays

- We're up to Episode 39 this week! Something we've learned from our 1980 version of "The Complete Yachtsman's handbook to the Whitsunday passage' is that resorts may change, but tides don't!
Preparation and planning pays as we average 7 knots sailing into Airlie beach for a visit to reprovision on food and water. With a 'glass out' (almost zero wind and waves) on the forecast for the next few days, Josh plugs up the Portabote and we bounce back out to the Hook Island to be ready for our first passage out to the reef! The Marori Wrasse and Giant Trevally join us for a late dip as we get Mantaray Bay to ourselves. Stoked to have you aboard again this week to hang out with the New Kids for a cracking bit of fun.

really enjoyed the cinematography and music! delightful, think your product is really slick. Thanks
Awesome feedback mate thanks heaps!
Love the Whitsundays! Hope you guys are having a blast!
What a cruising destination. So much to see and explore we could stay here for ages! Always having fun and wish the same to you 😁
Nice sail into Airlie, great conditions.
The fish feeding ❤ed it, The Morori Wrasse feeding was awesome with the GT
That tadpole sea monster looked more like a school of bait-fish to me.
Well done. Thank goodness not all your sails weren't this great, you never would have learned anything. 🙃 I'm very glad that this turned out so well. Your anchorage at the end of this video is out of a story book. Nice recovery on Pheobe keeping you on course Josh, that's not a hill you want to die on. Stay safe. ❤🙏
Awesome Guys - As Always! Marty here, Josh! Love from Guerilla Bay🥰
Great video, but the way you had the mainsail reefed and set for downwind ….eek!
Hand feeding fish is one of the best experiences ❤ almost as good as watching you steering your sailboat with your butt 😂
Not sure but am pretty sure you should also take rods out of rod holders in green zones😅
LOL. Josh gently speaking to Phoebe: "She is sort of keeping us on course". Or similar words. My girlfriend, Karin, is far worse. Last year we left for Vlieland from IJsselmeer (Kornwerderzand). She took the helm. After a while I said: "OK. Apparently you changed plans. We are going to Ameland. Fine with me." I am a very flexible person. However, she said she wanted to go to Vlieland. So I took over, passed her book to her and both were happy. Karin is always easily distracted. Maybe that is the thing with females? 😇
For pity's sake let the main out! That Adams is a reasonably quick boat. If in doubt - let it out.
Hey mate, we face palm over our early sailing techniques often.
The reason it’s not out more is we needed to rig a preventer. Short passage, more effort. Already doing great boat speeds and it was comfortable. If we had a reliable auto pilot I would have plenty more time to tune sails but as is I need to be at the helm constantly when the boats running ‘ok’ we just run with it. No harm done apart from the nervous system 😅. Cheers, Josh
Looks like your boat is aluminum.
Do you get any problems with condensation and have you had any problems with corrosion in the bilges etc.
Ha, yes, the myth of sailboat having "right of way", I would not count on that too much if I were you. Instead have a look at something like COLREG.
Cheers,
a.
Has everyone heard Innerbloom ?

legend 👏🏼 not sure many of our viewers know where the name Innerbloom comes from! We love Rufus :)
Great work guys , some hilarious banter between you both 🤣loved the fish feeding at the end ! 😊👍
Have you seen my videos on my trip around Aussie, including Tassie. My gopro broke while in the Whitsundays so I don't have enough for a video. Sailing Ophelia Compass 29. I completed my journey mid 2021 but are 3yr behind in videos. Perhaps you might go around.
ripper video guys. great speed for that yacht too. how good does that feel? !
Hey Peter, it’s awesome how well she performs considering there is a lot of room for improvement on our sail trimming. Oh well, something to work towards! Cheers, Josh
@@Thenewkidsonthedock yeah, as a sail trimmer on a racing yacht I do cringe sometimes haha. "Kids", keep up the good (hard) work and the channel will grow. A sailmaker company will be calling you up soon
Awesome, you guys are doing so well with boat life. Good on you both. Love it 😍😄. Keep up the good work 💪. SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿
Great content guys. Did you get into Butterfly Bay? That is similarly spectacular. The cod towards the end of this episode is a brown-marbled grouper (cod) Epinephilus fuscoguttatus. Might bump into you when you pass Townsville.
No, they’re not volcanic, they are granite.
You guys lost me in the first 6 seconds.
Scenery is beautiful
Oh shite! It my bloody Kidz!!! How goes it young mistress and master?
Ahoy there sailor! We be bloody good nice to see you back here 😁
🦎
Can I recommend you watching ‘Slim and Soph-sailing Nakama’ and ‘Free Range Sailing’. They have both done what you are doing now; circumnavigating Australia. There are lots of useful hints to be learned from them both.
Free Range are one of our favourite channels! We first started watching them soon after we learned about sailing, they’ve taught us so much! Also love Slim & Soph’s stuff, extremely well made and informative vids ~ we have a lot to learn from many 😊
I have just come across your Channel, I’m no sailor but have been religiously following and living vicariously through La Vagabond and Parlay Revival for years. I’m so stoked to see another Aussie Couple I can watch. Have just binged from the beginning and I’ll tell you now this channel will blow up!
Onwards and upwards well done!
Thanks so much for those kind words mate! Big love!
I think you’re right, I think with just a little bit of time and experience their videos will be Epic .They are a very charismatic couple With a great story to tell.
good work BUT it's Torres STRAIT (not straight.)
Call me crazy, but I had a dream about you guys the other night. Why??? No idea. Anyway thanks again for sharing your experiences. Love your channel. Keep it going. Take care.
Has it really only been 5 months into you journey? That’s crazy!! You guys are doing great!
Figures Australia would have a giant man eating tadpole. Just think of the size of the frog.
Wow! I Love the intro and what a beautiful sail. That was so freaking cool - the shots you got of those stunning fish.
Like always can’t wait for the next video.
