If you waged money you can't afford to lose and you're blaming it on a player or team, you have bigger issues in life than being a sports fan.

I think it’s more about understanding how gambling influences the outcomes of the games… it’s not authentic competition anymore since the rise of sports gambling,, money talks

The problem is that gambling now has never been easier to be apart of than today, and the leagues promote the shit out of it. If someone who has a gambling problem is watching their favorite sport, are we really surprised that after the multitude of commercials and endorsements they would partake in the thing that can ruin their life?

To be fair though, legalizing it makes it safer in other ways. It’s not run primarily by the mob like it was for so long. DraftKings isn’t loaning out money and then breaking people’s arms when they don’t pay.

Not surprised by this. Ken Burns series Baseball highlighted gambling issues in early baseball. Fans would interfere with the game. Gamblers would offer players money to catch it drop the ball. The Black Sox scandal.
There is nothing new under the sun. This was predicable be looking at the past and understanding why sports gambling was outlawed

Brodie if possible you should also look into European soccer betting cases right now. In particular Lucas Paqueta a Brazilian national team star in the English premier league who has pretty damning evidence of intentionally getting yellow cards for betting purposes. In addition other Premier League players like Ivan Toney and Sandro Tonali also received year bans for betting. This betting problem is quickly becoming an international pandemic for sporting integrity

Hey Brodie. It's been a couple of seasons ago where I first seen ads for betting on line....on Golden State
Warrior broadcasts. Perhaps I'm naive. However, is California one of some states gambling is not legalized? Now during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, you see ads for ESPN Bet on the dasherboards. Perhaps I'm naive again. Are there states that have not legalized online betting? Last year, I moved from Daly City to Denver, Colorado. I enjoy the Fan Duel Sportsbook in moderation. Attractive multigame parlays at a modest wager gives an NFL Sunday a bit of excitement. I can see if some puts a big chunk of paychecks on the outcome of a game. Problems are there for everyone on a losing prop. In many situations, the bettors need help.

It is somewhat "uncharted territory" (remember the black sox) for people in the US, but around the world it's not. Players and officials become part of the "action" (gambling actions) on the field. In the worst scenario, it's like the Colombian soccer player scoring an own goal (mistake) in the 1994 World Cup, then getting gunned down when he returned to Colombia. It was all related to drugs and gambling. The love of money is the root of all evil, and this will grow and grow, and you won't recognize sports anymore unless it is stopped.

    • @chrisczech744

Maybe sports leagues shouldn't embrace sports book sites and aps, and instead invest time, resources and effort into helping people find help if they have a gambling problem for the sake of humanity and their players.... Ooooooorrrr... To hell with them, how much money can we make?

The casinos always win. ALWAYS. Online betting is even more rigged than real life because of coding and algorithms. They can eliminate nearly all instances and possibilities of luck - while giving you back just enough to keep someone gambling.

The people that wanted this were driven by selfish reasons-their bank accounts. Gambling always brings this unsavory garbage. This is on the leagues that pushed for it and opened the floodgates. Feel bad for the athletes and coaches.

The umpires are the ones fixing the games. You bet 1,000$ on if a player will get a hit and then the umpire calls an obvious ball a foot off the plate and you LOSE your bet……. Needs to be digital strike zone.

While the legalization of gambling is a contributing factor to the aggression toward players, I think it's more of a symptom of a deeper problem. We're in a period of time where everyone is angry about something. Grocery costs are too high. Housing prices are too high. Healthcare is a mess in North America. Education is a mess in North America. There's the whole Israel-Palestine situation. There are any number of other issues now. Someone online refers to this culture as "ProtestMania", and it's pretty accurate.
There are all kinds of things to be angry about, and social media continues to fan the flames. That's why I see a big overlap between your issues with Twitter and the issues with people saying things like this to player. People are able to complain about things and be angry on social media, realize that there are going to be little to no consequences for being angry, and are subsequently emboldened to go scream and yell in-person at players, managers/coaches, GMs, etc. Add money to the equation, and it's a perfect storm with no clear resolution or easy collective answers. The only answers I've been able to find are individual ones: be the adult in the room, don't gamble on sports and just enjoy them for what they are, and don't take things seriously that really don't affect me personally.

Lmfaoooo tho… start paying attention to first 5 innings betting… it’s magic how teams start immediately scoring in the 6th after first half bets close out.., BetMGM painted on fields with a FanDuel ad behind home plate… followed by a DraftKings commercial… baseball is the easiest sport to fix/rig by far
