  • This song is about my struggle growing up undiagnosed with autism. Autism is a disability that disables someone in terms of understanding social cues and norms. I have always had a hard time making and keeping friends because I was "too weird," "too slow," "annoying," "different". It hurt me deeply and it still does. It's hard, and no one deserves the way they are treated just because you aren't "normal". This is what that song is about.

    *~Lyrics~*
I’m five years old on the bus again
Wondering if you were ever my friend
Why does this happen every time?
Why is there no one to call mine?
Playing with dolls and clapping hands
Not broken they just don’t understand
    You’ll get through it somehow
    You’ll get through life somehow
Do you think you could hate me less
If I kept to myself all my mess
The things inside that you can’t buy
    Crowd me out again
Bullying’s learned but so is respect
I guess that part’s the hardest
    “No empathy, can’t communicate”
Will everyone give her a little space?
It was all just a trick, a game, a joke
I never thought you were that slow
Losing who I once was when I was perfect
There’s still time to be me
Do you think you could hate me less
If I kept to myself all my mess
The things inside that you can’t buy
    Crowd me out again
Do you think you could look inside
Find it in you not to mind
My quirks and flaws and all your doubts
About how this might all work out
    Do you remember a time
When love wasn’t earned and hate wasn’t learned
    Do you remember a time
When you weren’t afraid to reach out a hand
    Now we’re all blind
To the flesh, skin, and bones that we share inside
    It’s what’s inside
I thought it was what’s inside
Do you think you could hate me less
If I kept to myself all my mess
The things inside that you can’t buy
    Crowd me out again
Do you think you could look inside
Find it in you to not mind
My quirks and flaws and all your doubts
About how this all might work out
