Umineko is so great and perfect that it's impossible to tell it to others, if you don't read the novels yourself there is no way to understand the story and the real plot.

It have a visual novel and it's amazing too I recommend theanga because it have scary situations.... But overall, the manga also nails the storyline of higurashi

amir shemesh I finished reading the novel. While I liked it, it has some issues. I feel like most of the story arcs ended up not mattering due to the fact that most of the arcs were forgeries and rumors, not actual accounts of events. Don't get me wrong it was still an enjoyable read. I just like more of the story of what actually happened on the island. I really ended up liking lion as a character and his backstory. Same with angie. But for how fun of a ride it was my main gripe is how irrelevant most of the story became in later arcs. When you find out the truth it becomes kinda pointless.
Darkslayer Ryuu I have to point out something, At least from my point of view the point of this VN isn't to give you a specific answer, The point is to give you enough info to conclude something by yourself while you read and gain new info, That's how I got it and that's what I liked about it so much :) but different people have different ways to experience this kind of stuff so I guess it depends only on the individual.

Alex N I must agree :) That comment was made almost after watching serialization of umineko. After that I played all parts of Umineko series and I must admit that anime version was much worse than vn.

Half of it makes no sense, nothing seems to be fully fleshed-out and finished, and there just seem to be swathes of story, character development, and information missing, contributing to the overall experience making little sense and just feeling like a drug trip with no satisfying resolution. I am sure it can be neat for people who are actually familiar with the entire story and characters, but as a stand-alone, it is just fucking terrible.
It was super rough and barely held a strong investment, but stumbling across a vid of a rolling severed head going USHIROMIYA ROSAAAA piqued enough interest to give it a look then properly dive into the VN and Manga when i was unsatisfied with the end- and boy it was worth it. One of my all time fav stories I experienced with my partner as we tried to solve each chapter. Great stuff.

I gave up waiting and recently started reading the visual novel. It is WAY WAY better than the anime trust me!! They left out so much inmportant information in the anime that you'll be confused even if they did get around to making a 2nd season.

@ChocoholicAnimeFreak the other series is higurashi no naku koro ni or Higurashi when they cry (higurashi is the name of the town its in). Umineko no naku koro ni or When the seagulls cry is a reference in the story to the fact that none of the people last till after the typhoon when the seagulls would come back out and "cry" you know, like skuack. The series were both made by the same guy with a similar idea, you know repeating of a certain period of events where alot of people are killed.
@puckers8 It's because this is the third part to the "no naku koro ni" (when they cry) series, the first two being "Higurashi no naku koro ni" (When the Cicadas cry) and "Higurashi no naku koro ni kai." (When the Cicadas cry - Solution) Therefore, we call these the "when they cry" series =P Because when B___ claims that she should return to being F_____ R___ it is TRULY mindf*ck.
They talk about cicadas because this series name is Umineko no naku koro ni (when the seagulls cry) but those that made it also made higurashi no naku koro ni (when the cicadas cry) thats atleast the one i can come up with.
