    Very useful teaching on meditation in the vajrayana. He uses some imagery here that is helpful and new to me. One thing about a spiritual teacher (that I learned from Eckard Tolle) is that often it is not the words he's saying or even the speicific subject...but often it is a deeper subtext or metaphor hidden in the gaps...

    Is it important to be able to see the tip of ones nose? It sounds interesting, especially for those with long noses.
    The nose also presents problems, perhaps, for self image. It is the only parts of ones face that one can see directly. And as such, in my case anyway, it is too big! And there are two of them!
    I will try concentrating on my breating at thte tip of my nose. Thanks.

    Having a teacher can be too personal for some people - but devotion should not be confused with emotional attachment. That's why Buddha gave different methods, keying on the tendencies and capacities of individuals.

    Our style is totally clean - we mainly practice Ngondro and keep this Mahamudra view. We are meditation practice-oriented centers that do not dillute the teachings by mixing or picking out what we want. The historical precendent is there and we can be called Marpa-Kaygus.

    i think it is great that you have such a strong reaction to him, that is really good...i think that you should try to meet him so that you can ask him these questions yourself :) having a critical mind is key to practicing mindfulness..do you practice? you are at least interested in- Mahayana maybe?
    all the best, anna

  • @drtn6206

    Hi anna, yes I practice (Sotozen). But awhile ago Ole was speaking in my hometown, and I went to see. I went to the local diamondwaycenter a little while after to learn some more, and the people there were really nice. But they were idolizing this Ole, like people idolize Sai baba and osho etc, and I felt their practice had a very loose connection to dharma, I would call it new-age at best. No disrespect, but I think it deserves a critical view. Are you a diamondway practitioner?

  • @kilian
    @kilian 17 років тому

    Well... Vajrayana. These techings are the same as all great indian and tibetian yogis were giving to the people centuries ago. Even Karmapa said that if you practice Diamond Way, you can reach enlightment by only a few lifes. But it's not easy way though:o)

    another approach would be to see if the person actually has the title "Lama" or not. Google "Ole Nydahl documents" and you'll find a few letters from very high Lamas addressing this issue.
    Or you could simply see if they have anything to say which is actually useful to you. Personally if I only learned from "Certified Lamas" I would have missed out on a lot of things.

  • @shambu2012

    that's because Buddhism is all about mind and empirical experience rather than dogma and blind following. Goal is to unfold and reach mind potential so adequacy is quality you gain through Buddhism practices. Also technically Buddhism is not a religion, second - it is impossible to "convert to Buddhism" for reasons I just mentioned.

    @drtn it simply works. If you can trust your teacher or the Karmapa himself, it helps you to leave things behind for a moment.

    Is good stuff... eastern teachers have profound spiritual knowledge but limited English skills. Sometimes they have trouble accurately communicating.. for instance, “detachment” is a lesson often taught when what is really being taught is disengagement... training yourself to not “engage” in the mental thoughts or what I call “thought stream” that leads to suffering...

  • @Wassergrab
    @Wassergrab 13 років тому

    @etphonehome2915 Its hard for a western person to drop all the concepts all of a sudden. We need something to feed our intellects on and then only through practice we can start to dissolve illusions. If you say "leave your concepts" you might create concept of "leaving one´s concepts" in one´s mind and therefore create more confusion.
    And if you do not like that some way of Buddhism is attached to ideas, why does a little symbol on Ole´s shirt bother you?
    I am being smart and so are you, haha.

  • @subc71
    @subc71 13 років тому +1

    @etphonehome2915 I am sorry but there is not enough understanding of Ole's message in what you are writting. There is no buddhism better than the other and Lama has always underlined that. If Zen is better for you, that's fine. I hope it will bring happiness to your life. Other people might achieve the same by following the Diamond Way. The second thing is that you can by polos like that in second hand shops,not only designers. I would bet money that it was bought by Hanna ;) stay blessed :)

  • @nihonbunka

    But his body language does not seem to say "nirvahana" to me.

    The swallowing, the inward-looking gaze, shoulder movements, the self-directed expressions, self-touching (that itch) do not look extraordinarily peaceful.
    I can't talk.
    Also this "you are not your body" "they are tools that you take" sounds strangely dualist.

  • @kilian

    :o))) ok, whatever. But "tibetan buddhism" is just a different name for "diamondway". If 16th karmapa seems bad to you, your point of view is opposite to all tibetan and non-tibetan buddhist teachers. Just another opinion, why not.

  • @spinalcrackerbox

  • @drtn6206
    @drtn6206 17 років тому

    Karmapa Schmarmapa. The 16th karmapa seems to me as bad as "lama" ole. you know that diamondway followers meditate on 16th karmapa? for what reason? and during those meditations the teachers says "karmapa chenno" means "may all the buddhas power work through us" which is crap. it means "karmapa, you know". I like tibetan buddhism in many ways, but diamondway.. not at all

      zenmoon3 The Buddha said, "I am the enlightened one" and Lama Ole says, "I'm a lama." Both are the true statements and they shouldn't be interpreted as egotistic boasts. Also, the video does provide accurate information about mahamudra and the mediation practices incorporated in it. So say what you like about Ole but his teachings are clear and precise.
