I'm really thankful for you Alex for doing this video! I have my first trial lesson with my first student on Preppy tomorrow, and I was a bit confused and anxious before watching this video. But not anymore after watching such an amazing video
Hi there, Glad to hear the video helped put your mind at ease before your first class. Hope the class went well and you're continuing to enjoy teaching on Preply.
Awesome, thanks very much. I personally think one hour is too long for a trial lesson, it would be better use of both the student and tutors time if it was around 45 minutes.
Thank you SO much! I am about to start teaching on Preply, and this has been most helpful. I'm sure that the information is going to prove invaluable over my first few weeks.
It’s good to know this bc I tend to like to get to the point of things and this probably makes me appear cold and unfriendly but this is bc I get so nervous talking to people I don’t know. Thank you for sharing this video so many things I could went on doing without knowing thank you!
Thank you very much. This video is really helpful, I'm planning to teach online and have no idea on how to go about, but your video is motivating and encouraging...think I can do this. Thanks once again
Hi Jessica, I use readings primarily from onestopenglish and linguahouse. They cater for all levels and have been my go to for the past 3-4 years. Hope this helps
Thank you so much for the video.I am a new French tutor on preply.I have a question please : can the student use the white board when opening the icon and sharing my screen. please
Thanks for the kind words. Good question, I rarely use the whiteboard in my classes so I'm not entirely sure but I know sharing my screen sometimes poses a few problems. If this is the case, there are plenty of websites that offer free whiteboard services and so maybe you could use a good third party one instead and take a screenshot of it at the end of every lesson and post it into the chat with the student. Hope this helps
I'm curious to know your trial to paid lesson ratio over time. Did you eventually find enough regular students or did you find yourself doing trial after trial for weeks on end?
Hi there, great question. I found that in the earlier days it was around 80% but this depreciated over time with a lot of students taking advantage of the 'free trial lesson if you're not happy with your original tutor' promotion.
Absolutely! In fact, I would encourage it. If your student has had trial lessons with other teachers, chances are they've been using Preply materials too, so it's a great idea to use your own materials to stand out and teach YOUR way
As you would for any regular Zoom meeting. Just make sure to take one or two screenshots during the Zoom meeting as sometimes Preply ask for proof that the meeting took place outside of Preply. By teaching on the Preply site the lessons are automatically confirmed since they can see that the lesson took place.
But what if the student just wants to focus on having conversation and not read anything? Cases where they just want to talk about anything and everything Because they don't get to speak in English with the people around them
Hi, In this case it's totally find to keep the conversation going. Overtime it gets easier and easier just to develop relevant questions in your head for students who just want to converse and these are actually my favourite type of lessons as it's much more laidback and often a learning session for both you and the student as you also get to learn about their culture and lifestyle.
Hi Alex. I'm enjoying your videos. However its 2024 and your vodeos are 3 years old. There are many changes since then on yhe platform. Coupd you make a more recent video pls for newbies like me. Btw i haven't got even 1 trial class still.😅
Hi there, I'm glad you've been enjoying my videos. Not all of my videos are 3 years old. I made a video just two months ago talking about some common mistakes on Preply. You're welcome to check it out

3 be fun 😊
You understood the contents of the video well! Thanks a lot for watching
Support for the new channel! Love the "jump right in" clip in the intro and that you're sharing tips with other teachers 🙂

Especially since it’s unpaid!
Agreed.

I'm just starting my preply and youtube journeys, and have just came across your channel! You have a new subscriber 🙂
Awesome! Thank you!
@@teachercook-e2572 both are hard gigs as it takes a while to build up subscribers / students respectively
Very interesting! Perhaps a video about the teaching niche would be useful as well?

Would you be open to sharing the readings you have collected?

Thanks for this video, very helpful. It's a pity Preply doesn't pay anything its tutors for the trial class.
Thank you for the kind words, always appreciate comments like this. I'm glad you found it helpful
Do you get paid for a trial lesson?
Are you penalized for rescheduling a class on Preply?
Can you make a sample video on how to effectively use Preply material to teach sir
Hi there, if I'm honest, I very rarely use Preply material myself so I wouldn't be the best person to make such a video, sorry about that
How many trial lessons should you teach?
As many or as little as you like, that's the joy of being a teacher on Preply, you can be your own boss!
Hey I would love to ask is preply giving out teaching material or you have to have your own
Preply provides their own materials but you're welcome to use your own too. Preply doesn't make you use their resources
good tips. thank you. :)
Glad it was helpful!
Hello. Do you still get paid even free trial?
No, teachers don't get paid for any trial class
Hey there I am new to preply, does the student choose the subject or you?
It depends on the student. If a student would like to learn about a specific subject then by all means they're welcome to suggest it.
I'm curious to know your trial to paid lesson ratio over time. Did you eventually find enough regular students or did you find yourself doing trial after trial for weeks on end?

Can I share my own screen and use my own material this way with students ? Have first trial lesson on Monday 😅
Absolutely! In fact, I would encourage it. If your student has had trial lessons with other teachers, chances are they've been using Preply materials too, so it's a great idea to use your own materials to stand out and teach YOUR way
Are you assigned students?
Thank you so much Alex.
I am looking for a tutor

The worst teaching platform. Absolute rip off.
