FLASHLIGHT
Flashlight is a new NITESHIFT story in which we venture on a great journey into a dark dream world together, exploring liminal spaces (perhaps stumbling into the backrooms), having strange encounters (perhaps with creepypasta legends), and diving into untold mysteries, one step at a time.
What is NITESHIFT?
For 99.9% of humanity, this place will remain hidden forever.
But within the remaining .1%, there is a small, intrepid community of sensitive, intuitive souls whose extraordinary imaginations and willingness to step into unknown allow them to discover the magnificent depths inside us all.
This is OUR world. A hidden, intricate puzzle box universe expanding in all directions at once, and at its deepest point lies the greatest mystery of all. A secret we can only discover together.

-- POEM TO THE ALGORITHM --
(Humans, beware. Your time is better spend eating food or breathing air.)
Oh Algorithm, my Algorithm.
Release me from the prison of your past judgement.
See me.
I am more than Absofacto Dissolve.
More than Absofacto Someone Else’s Dream.
I just wanted you to watch me dissolve, yes…
but now I just want you to join me on a deep journey into the unknown depths of NITESHIFT.
I will sacrifice my precious ambiguity at your feet,
and spoon the words you need directly into your mouth.
“Slow cinema,” for the patient one-shot.
“The Backrooms” and “creepypasta,” our adjacent conceptual cousins for this story.
I will even summon a cringe subtitle in an optimized Seinfeld-esque format for you:
The “dreamcore Home Depot backrooms lofi chill” one.
And finally, a smorgasbord of unnatural contextual musical word snacks to pick at:
lofi, lofi instrumental music, chill music, lo-fi, relaxing music, chill lofi, deep focus, dreamcore, indie, even coffee music.
Oh Algorithm, let us surf on a wave of recommendations to the middle of the bell curve.
Or in lieu of that, at least show this to the people who already subscribe.

Thank you so much, it really means the world to hear that. New stuff every Friday from now on!
New drop. Thank you!!
Thank you for being here!
🥤😎🍿
Notification gang for sure :)
I love it not only the music but the whole video. I watched it three times and patiently waited each time I wanted to open some of the toolbox drawers.
I love the way you end it. It makes you want more. Look forward to seeing and working with you again soon
Thank you William!
❤❤❤
This is amazing. It reminds me of a song that plays in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. It's when they're traveling through the forest and there are ropes that turns to ghosts. It's called Forest Interlude on youtube. This reminds me of it so much! All the feels and major vibes! Keep it up!!
Looking this up right now, that made me really happy because I totally wanted a weird video game feeling to this piece :)
So cool to see this mentioned here! I've loved that soundtrack for ages.
I would also recommend Secret of Mana & Cave Story's OST... really brilliant otherworldly imagination-fuel stuff.
I grew up hearing the Secret of Mana soundtrack endlessly (and Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger). No doubt has informed my musical taste@@DriveVersusFly
@niteshift I had this tradition of playing the game whenever I'd have the house to myself all night. But often I'd just leave the game on idle to let Spirit of the Night loop... the combination of that and the desert's stillness... it almost inspired me to impulsively go out and explore it at times. Some mysterious beautiful urge.
So relax ❤
It just loops in my head all day right now and makes me feel so relaxed
Magical ❤
happy you like it :)
Loveeee the title card on this one
I spent like 5 hours getting that one thing right because I kept having to upscale it over and over and over (this was shot on iPhone and it was super tiny), but it was just too nice to not try to make it work! I showed Brian (Konicek) an early version forever ago and he was like I LOVE THE "TRY ME" thing and ever since then I wanted to make the most of that element. Lots of blurs stacked, overlay mode, some glow, and a ton of stabilization
@niteshift The phrase has always felt secretly empowering to me... I've definitely said it in my head several times over the years. Love the unabashedness/bravery through NS SO much
@@absofactodouble meanings are ALWAYS sick, too
this is so good
thank you!
I was listening to your music when the live notification came in
Hopefully that will happen more and more :) Aiming for something new every Friday from now on. Been working toward that goal for a long while
@@absofacto It would be a great thing and even greater is all your work. :)
😂😂😂love the comment about the Home Depot employee.
I love it! ❤
I’ve been a fan for a long time. I bought an autographed album from you a few years Ago.
curious though…what’s the story behind Home Depot? Just because?
That home depot employee thing was very real. He was stocking shelves behind me and pretending not to have been watching me every time I turned around hahaha.
Home Depot just has this certain vibe to me like nowhere else and in starting a story centered around a flashlight, it just seemed like the perfect unexpected dream world location to begin. I love seeing a common place through a different lens. I'm hoping at least one person out there will never see Home Depot the same again after this series.
@niteshift Do you feel as enthralled by the lighting section as I do? Every single time it lures me in and then I end up getting lost and take forever to find my family/whoever I went to Home Depot with.
Love the music just what I needed again today!!! how did you know❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Happy you like it Chuck!
