  • 2 miles from Centralia is Pennsylvania's only "geyser". After heavy rains or during spring thaw, the water pressure from flooded mines below, cause this to erupt and spurt water up to 15' in the air. It was about 7-8' today.     there is one in seward pa. and 3 in vintondale pa.

    It's not a good idea if you try to drink the water. I've been told it's become acidic due to the contact it's had with the coal. Some have even say it smells like sulfur. The water has also picked up minerals from the mine, giving the ground it flows over a distinct rusty color to it.
