I watched a person make soup today. He said clearly, “My video today is sponsored by BlueLand”. Then he demonstrated him using the product. He put the sponsorship information clearly in the description box. Just for reference, BlueLand is a company that creates plastic-free cleaning products. Anyways, he disclosed his connection to the company and product, he demonstrated the product, and I purchased relevant products that are useful for my home. I’ve got no problem with sponsorships or ads for companies and products you believe in and I have no problem with purchasing them myself. I have a problem when the person and company don’t disclose appropriately and when the performance is overstated, understated, or misrepresented.

I’ve got to be honest. I am over influencers doing their makeup, showing it right after it’s done, and talking about the product/giving a review. And that’s not even considering the filters and things they use to make it look it’s best. Of course it looks beautiful and buy-worthy. Sometimes even splurge-worthy. This is your job, you put the product on, and generally you take it off in ten minutes. I don’t care about how products look on you after ten minutes with filters. I’m a working person with a skin/health condition who has 15 minutes at most to get ready in the morning, and can be out of my house for twelve hours at a time. I care how products go on, wear, stay on, and feel at every point in the process. I even care about the best way to fully take them off. Those “ten minute reviews” can take a hike.

Agreed!!! I want more in-depth reviews if I’m going to consume influencer content… especially skincare!!!!
It’s bothers me so much when someone uses a skincare product one time and makes a video… like dude- it takes sometimes months! to see results… not to mention they don’t have the skin condition that product is supposedly combating…
And make up REQUIRES a wear test. I truly don’t care if it looks ok after 5 mins. How is it going to react to my face warmth, my sweat, and ✨life✨ for my work shift???

Her transparency and honesty opened my eyes to how manipulative people had been, how much waste was being created, and how many businesses just didn't care (of course they don't, there businesses!) I never like it when influencers use the language of sales people. The clips of Mikaela (sp?) saying "you guys are going to love this, you're definitely going to want to try this" or "I wish I could show it to you, the packaging is so cute" turned me off because she is not giving us real information. I appreciate when people provide objective information about how the make up is working and why. Also, the tone is a big reason why I would want to keep watching. Any person giving an objective review is not going to be fawning over a product with over-the-top emotions. They will be explaining what they are excited about and have facts back it up. I would not describe myself as having a BS meter, it's more like I just cringe as soon as I feel as though someone is trying to manipulate me. Not this time, Mikaela!

No. It should absolutely be on both the company and the influencer. Back when everyone was talking about the mascara, people brought up I think the Maybelline powder. What had happened was influencers bought the product (I imagine), used it in a video, Maybelline (in this instance) saw the video, wanted to use it to advertise the product, compensated the influencer (however they agreed to compensate) and it became part of Maybelline’s advertisement. The video on the brand’s account was clearly an ad- that’s what cosmetics companies do: sell their cosmetics BUT the influencer never went back and properly disclosed the connection to the ad for the brand. That was a perfectly fine way to do business UNTIL the influencer didn’t disclose the ad even on a past ad. Companies and the FTC can say its on the influencer all they want. And I definitely hold influencers responsible. Here’s the deal though… don’t hold the influencers you, as a million to billion dollar company, use to high standards including disclosing ads and sponsorships for the protection of your consumers? I’ll be out quicker than you can imagine. And don’t think I won’t. I just did a mass unfollowing last week of ANYONE who supports JC, CB, or any of the Morphe babes. Give me a reason to stop buying from your company. My wallet will appreciate it.

It seemed like an inexpensive way to dip my toe into that and it definitely was and it works well for me. What you said about small indie brands- YES YES YES. I work with mainly smaller indie brands. When I show something from a brand, If I love it- you’re gonna know. I won’t shut up about it lol But if it’s something I’m not feeling 100%, I won’t tell you it’s great. But I will say ‘I like the color story and the artwork is great!’ I’m not going to say the shadow is wonderful if it isn’t. But I’m not going to be harmful to these small indie brands that I work with. I will usually tell the brand directly (hey your shimmers weren’t the best- the mattes had a lot of fallout- the color story just wasn’t my thing!)
But i don’t accept PR from brands I don’t like or are not interested in… so that’s why I say I’m excited about all the things. Bc I’m excited about all the things 😂😂😂
I think def finding multiple people to check out their opinions and swatches and photos is a great idea!
But ever since makaylah and lashgate, it seems like some people are very against even small influencers like myself on insta. I’ve heard some people say they would never use any influencers affiliate code even if they used their swatches or were genuinely influenced by them. But some people feel as if any influenced is out to lie to them and out to get them… which is so far from how most of us feel. When you work with brands you do need to be personable with them but it doesn’t mean that we are in cahoots with brands to lie to everyone lol it’s really quite disheartening sometimes. When you start out as a creator working with brands people are so happy for you. People congratulate you and say they’re so happy you’re getting pr! Then when you work with more and more brands you end up crossing this invisible line that you didn’t even know existed. You’ve done too much, worked with too many brands, gotten too much PR. And then noones happy for you anymore now they think you’re a liar and a sellout.
I promise we are not all liars and sellouts lol we just love makeup as much as anyone else!

If he had said that he thought it was fine at the time but through education, experience and a change of taste, he now regards it as a bad palette - that would have been totally fine in my books. But to actively endorse something that he thought was bad at the time is absolutely scamming behaviour. So glad I never started watching him!

Yes there def is a lot of influencers that only care about about the money… however, influencers like Jen, Juicyjas, Taylor Wynn, and Allie Glines I do trust. They won’t take a sponsorship for something they don’t like. They will do a sponsored post for a brand, but then also be honest about the things from the brand they don’t like❤

You, Pati Alonso and Dr. Dray are the UA-camrs I trust the most with recommendations! And I must admit I do NOT run to the store just because you all say it works, it all depends if I really think it will work for me. Many things you or Dr Day recommend do not work for me, but I find it honest because you guys go into details about pro, cons and ingredients. Been watching you for many years. I loved JenLuvReviews and I know you’ve changed your content a bit over the yeas but I still love your channel and everything you do.

so basically we've gone back to regular commercials, like back in the day on tv with actresses' or models.... we know they don't use this hairspray or eye cream, she's just in the commercial, and the same thing is happening with influencers, they are just lending their face to promote something and that's not why we used to believe influencers, but now it's the reason we don't

Tati did a sponsorship w/ essence about 2 mos ago now which made sense as she’s used & recommended them as long as I’ve watched her. She’s the reason I knew of & love a few things from them. Disclosed first thing but from then to now there’s been all these full face essence videos w/ NO disclosure. Like everyone just randomly decided to do a full face of essence?? Come on! I don’t watch TikTok but if I did I’d never watch mikayla. It’s gross we all know sponsorships happen just stop being shady, lying all for personal gain.

@@kettyca666I 100% agree that the foundation wasn’t the best smelling. But I do like it and I had watched multiple videos of people bringing it up. I think it’s important to note what it is you are doing when wearing it. For example I’m on online meetings all day I don’t go out in the sun. It’s a great looking foundation on camera and affordable

This is why I watch you. I just don't trust so many of them. I made a mistake of buying an influencer's eye shadow palette after hearing SO many channels say how amazing it was. It wasn't. I was so put off by the whole experience I stopped watching the channels that gave the "glowing" reviews. At least when you review stuff you always say WHY you like it and what we might not like too if you see something. Thank you for doing stuff like you do.

At this point... do we even trust that Lipstick Nik is using the exact products that are marketed? I wouldn't be surprised if she used some good products to build a coulor and then slap morphe on top of it. Also, she was besties with Jefree, now is with James? I feel that James got her to just get back at Jefree.
Morphe just tested their influencers who can sell crap so we can hire them more, I doubt that James's palette performed any better than dare to create. I almost bought the dare to create palette. Luckily instead I bought a lot of singles from Polish indie brand and I still love them.

I am a member of a few review sites, within these communities I'll be sent some products to review, in the beginning i was worried to leave a negative review for fear i wouldn't be sent more products. My internal conversation was very torn, i hope I'm honest, but I'm aware that my opinion could be influenced. I try to judge fairly and never give a totally negative review, i will say what i like, who i think this product will work for and finally what i don't like. But the urge to give a good review just to get more is definitely there, and this is just a hobby, for people who depend on reviews for their livelihood i cannot imagine for how tempting it might be.

So funny story about “buying from influencers”: today, my husband said “I’ve been researching Native and I’d like to try it” I asked him what led him to wanting to look in to Native ( I tried it long ago & wasn’t for me ) and he said 😂😂 “ that lady that talks while you’re in your bubble bath every weekend. I’ve heard her talk about it “ 😂😂😂😂 you Jen, you’re the lady that talks while I’m in the bubble bath 😂😂 so, he picked some up and said “if I like it, does she have a link so she gets credit?” ❤❤❤

This makes me so angry. For so many reasons. At him for being a piece of trash, at people for blanketing his trash over all creators. I try so hard to be honest and let people know the good and bad about every product I review. I do skip reviewing some things, like you mentioned, from a small brand that gifted me something, but I won’t say it’s good. I’ll just skip reviewing it all together. The more products I try, yeah my thoughts on something may change, so if you go back 2 years I may have loved xyz, and today I think it’s just average, but that’s a matter of experience. Not if straight up lying. Ughhh. I’m so frustrated and annoyed that anyone gives him the time of day tbh

this makes me think of all the influencers who were paid to promote the Dyson Air Wrap. Admittedly some of them still use it to this day and really seem to love it. But I saw countless influencers push this $600 hair tool on their audience as "100% worth the investment" and "the last tool you'll ever need to buy". Then a year or two later, they're all doing GRWMs and they're back to using the same old metal curling wands. I remember Alana Davidson even admitting in a video about a year after she made her sponsored content that she never really used it after that because she couldn't figure out the technique and her curls didn't last the way the stylist on the brand trip made them. Of course a few months later she was out doing a sponsored video promoting the new attachments...
Lying about your feelings about any product for a sponsorship is always awful, but when you're swaying your young audience to drop $600 hair tool that you don't even use yourself?? That was too much for me, it was honestly disgusting.

That 39A Dare to Create Palette was the last morphe product I ever bought. If I remember correctly every Influencer was really promoting, but of course it was Morphe. I think I bought mine based of Rawbeautykristi, I didn't even realize James Charles was the face for it. I liked the Idea of all the transition shades being bigger in the middle, but it fell short for me. Every Color was just too dark inside of it, and every look became smokey. plus the size made it impossible to store, and I ended up forgetting about it.
