Years ago, my dad made an air compressor from a refrigerator compressor, but he couldn't paint with it as it circulated oil in a closed refrigeration system, and it would ruin the paint. For air tools, it might be just fine, but he had none of those back then.

By most standards in my experience, this is satisfactorily quiet.....and considering its size, capacity, and capability....I would say this is a real improvement over the general stock of industrial compressors that are available. Cheers mate.

thats what they are, worthless for a compressor if you want to do anything with it apart from run an air blow gun or a nail or staple gun pretty much. you would never be able to paint with it, use air tools like a die grinder, sanders etc but if you want silence its the way to go unless you have a big budget

Oil changes... Look into acquiring a vacuum extractor. I got one a decade back and wonder how I managed to do it the old fashioned way. I can now change the oil on all the vehicles in fifteen minutes without jacking them up. Every other year or so, the vehicles are up on jack stands for some other maintenance. So, I get around to changing the filters then.
I like the extraction process so much, I removed the oil pan of my 1993 C1500 to weld in some blocking plates in the slosh baffles to keep the vacuum tube from hanging up.
The extractor also makes oil changes on power equipment and my traditional air compressors painless with zero dribble mess. Power steering fluid changes? Piece o' cake! Suck out the reservoir, add in new fluid, and repeat in a couple of weeks.
A helpful tip dealing with the extraction tube. It will be dripping oil for a number of days after use. Make a scabbard out of PVC pipe and let it sit in some corner of the garage to drain into a catch of some kind.
Seriously, once you have an extractor, you'll thing folks doing it any other way are nuts and gluttons for punishment.

I know this was over a month ago, but I have to think that filling up that compressor from 0-bar taking some time doesn't surprise me. What I'd like to know is what is the cycle-time from low pressure to full? I think that's the real number worth knowing because that's your usability factor. Very nice that it also has a moisture/oil trap preinstalled. An interesting design going with 3 low-flow/noise pumps to keep the dB down. Also, have you ever considered adding a buffer tank to get some additional peak volume? Great videos... Especially seeing that B&S engine in the brush cutter come back to life! Those engines are as close to perfect design as can be in their simplicity, so it was beautiful to see that with some tender care it will still work as well as the day it was cast!!

Nice compressor. Buy quality and buy once. Hopefully it should last your lifetime. Even on video I can tell it’s very quiet. Those that are saying it looks like a refrigerator compressor MAY be correct but how do they separate the oil from the air because in a refrigerator compressor the oil circulates through the whole compressor. I have my compressor housed in a box made from 50mm MDF so it’s very quiet too.😂
I also purchased a good quality unit back in the early 80’s and I take it out once a year to service it, change the oil, take off the two big end plugs on the tank and wash it out ect. It still goes well. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺

Wow that is an interesting design and is quiet. You can further reduce the noise by placing plywood on the outside of that shelf on at least 3 sides or 2 sides at a minimum. The more the sound has to bounce around the quieter it gets. Just need to make sure it still gets airflow

It's strange how things are different from one country to another. For that much money here in Brazil you could buy an industrial compressor. I'm talking about up to 40CFM (1132,6 L/m). I myself have a 10CFM outside the shop in a small concrete shelter. It keeps the noise outside and leaves more space inside for me to use. Also it helps with the oil changes etc.

The compressor has a 50% duty cycle. That may limit air operational endurance such as extensive sand blasting. Each one of those low volume, high compression refrigerator compressor outputs goes through a check valve manifold into the tank. They share the load. 5.3 CFM isn't too bad for the kind of work that this gentleman might be doing. Certainly not designed for an industrial shop and it doesn't look like he has one.

  • @roberth58
    @roberth58 3 роки тому

What kind of sandblasting will this very cute compressor handle? A pressurized tank will be approx 6cfm at 60psi, small cabinet is 10cfm at 90, large cabinet is 25cfm at 90. For what that cost why not build a small shed, insulate it, double layer of drywall for sound deadening. Buy a 7.5hp 80gal upright and give yourself a fighting chance with a sand blaster. Also unless prices are really crazy in the UK, you would have spent less money.

  • @liebherr11602

I still prefer my 60gal belt driven unit. Very quiet, 3hp ...the difference being the motor only turns 1750 rpm, which translated into 640 rpm on the compressor. I can have a conversation standing next to it.
It was gifted to me. Its a Webster, built 1984. I only had to replace a capacitor and a rear bearing in the motor.
I cleaned the heads and honed the cylinders, Makes 135 psi all day.

That is a very interesting compressor. They do look like fridge compressors like others have said. Maybe not quite the same since I would think you would have to refill it more often. Rather than tip it up, I see the sight glasses are threaded in. You could drain from there but it would make a mess for sure.

That's all they are fridge motors expensive to run as your only getting 5cfm the reason it has a large tank If using tools that use a lot of air like a 1/2 inch impact drill that will use just over 5cfm in 15 seconds but your only supplying 5cfm its going to take 4 minutes to replace that air
A very expensive machine to buy, might do him for occasional use and won't piss the neighbour's off.
I bought a single stage 14cfm for £500 and built a sound proof box around it with added forced ventilation and it sounds the same af this one.

Best advice, if you use it everyday, drain the tank every night..... Nice compressor.

Very cool new compressor.but why did you not buy a two stage one? They work faster and hold more air then your new one.badvghjng is they are loud and need more space then your new one does

2 stage require 3 phase electric supply. 2 stage will give you more psi and are more economical but will be slower filling the Reservoir tank. Single stage will fill faster than 2 stage but you get a lower psi and more expensive to run. All depends on what your needs are, if you need high pressure in short bursts and you have 3 phase then 2 stage is your best bet but if you need constant large flow at Low pressure single stage would be better.
If your using lots of air 35cfm or above then screw compressors are the way to go.

Nice and quiet but blimey what a price! Found cheap way for quiet air is bigger compressor off inverter in my workshop. Just run it at lower speed, makes massive difference. Run at 30hz so still enough oil splash for lubricating compressor. If need more air for anything can always run it at full speed.

Gday daggerwin keep up the good content im throughly enjoying it. Just a idea for a possible future project, you should try and get a old Massey Ferguson like the grey one on the survival challenge on no mans land and restore it back to its former glory. Just a thought. Cheers

good job compressor brand board meeting, you have successfully tricked another one with money selling him a gimmicky product.

That is all I need at the moment. Eventually when I have a much bigger workshop I can get a larger one but this will do fine plus it's quiet.

I've got a 100l that does 13.5 cfms and only payed £350 for it. Yes its alot louder. So I see your purchase as a waste of money. I'm not being funny by the way.

nice bro, I watch your videos I am, inspired by many things, and you have helped me a lot, with the restoration of old engines, nice air compressor, looks like the air compressor of a refrigerator, 👍 but can you show the scheme that how is the motor voltage, and the capacitor connected,?!

couple of questions if i may? do you know how many amps it draws peak and run? it seems like a whole lot of energy and money burned for 5.4cfm compressor. Most of my air tools require twice that to run constantly so hence all my interest. I've read several silent type shop comps and have never been able to see first hand their performance so i hope you can give me an honest impression now. Thanks in advance. I hope it serves you well for many years.

The one thing I was curious about has no documentation online. Exactly where on the tank is the drain valve? If it’s not located at the lowest spot then the tank will rust from the inside out eventually, even if you drain it properly after every use. I think this compressor is wildly overpriced.
