It's Jason, but DBT is still around. In fact, they just released new stuff. You should do yourself a favor and listen to the album "Southern Rock Opera" in its entirety. It's one of the most underrated albums of all time. I usually watch your videos on my TV, so I don't comment a lot. However, I had to jump on the laptop to tell you that.
As been said yeah this is Jason Isbell. The live version he did on Live in alabama is a bit clearer with the lyrics. I heard that Jason said the story is true and that it was his grandfather and that they had a history of fighting. Outfit is another song by DBT which is worth checking out with Jason singing as is TVA and never gonna change.
Jason before he got sober. It'd be great if you could do some more of his stuff. He's got so many songs to choose from - some of my personal favourites are Songs That She Sang in the Shower, Cover Me Up, or Last of My Kind but you can't really go wrong.
Awesome you did the truckers from the Isbell years. Now you gotta do one for Hood and one for Cooley. I would recommend the Austin City Limits version of Righteous Path or 18 Wheels of Love and Gravity's Gone for a Cooley song
DBT and Isbell. Wow! I still remember exactly where I was first time I heard them. 3 guys that are serious songwriters that also sing lead/backup and play rhythm/lead. Their first 5 albums/cd's are as good as anyone ever. I admit I've kind of lost touch with their current catalog since Isbell departed but they were just so prolific at the time. When the Pin Hits the Shell is one of Cooley's greatest.
it was shocking to watch this and see Jason "before he was sober" perform with DBT on this song.. Based on where he is now - this is cringeworthy and it's testament of his progress on sobriety... thank god....
I'm going to see DBT live in November and I've seen them quite a few times (only once with Jason, sadly). And I have to say that they're still rocking and releasing music. If you want a taste of country, check 'Gangstabilly' or 'Pizza Deliverance' by the Truckers. Gangastabilly has some gems on it but I haven't heard an album yet I couldn't listen all the way through.
Eh brighter than creations dark is as good as anything they put out with him in the band, and Southern Rock Opera was before he joined the band. After creations dark they did fall off pretty dramatically though and Isbell is on another level. I just take exception to the idea that he was the band when he got maybe three (exceptional though they may be) songs per album
This is a pretty bad performance. He was hammered. If you listen to the album version, it's soooooo much better. Jason has always been a great songwriter but when he found sobriety, he upped his game to a lyrical genius.

Crimsontide2186 Roll Tide, buddy.
Hell yes! Outfit, Dress Blues, Goddamn Lonely Love!
God damn loney love, yes!
Crazy that Jason was like 23 in this video
This live version is Isbell at his drunky best. It’s about his own family history. They are real folks.
He is soooo drunk here. Sheeeez
Facts! His songs by the DBT are my favorite!
Man, I forgot what Jason looked and sounded like back when he was fat and drunk. I’m so glad he got his shit together and is thriving.
DriveBy Truckers Not country. It’s pure D Grade A Southern fuckin Rock. Hard livin band right there.
"Outfit" is a great song written by Isbell off of this album. He's always been a great lyricist and songwriter.

Outfit will always be one of my all-time favorite songs. Worth noting that the vast majority of DBT songs sung by Jason were 100% written by Jason.
Jason spent a few years with the Truckers and wrote several great songs while a member.

You picked a good one here.

How about Zip City for Cooley:

Yes, it sure is a young Jason Isbell!
This is Jason Isbell’s old band. There’s a live version of Isbell playing this in Alabama that is soooo good
Jason was in the band. Not necessarily "his" band though.
P Daniel that’s what I meant
Top tier music right here!
Check out any of their first five albums for some gems

Yeah he was really off the rails at this point. This was around the time that A Blessing and a Curse came out and was soon out of the band.
The texting while listening killed me a little ngl

DBT might have been one of the best bands anywhere while Jason was a member. I sure lost intest in them following his departure.
