SF Masterworks got me into the genre. The only scifi I'd really read was HG Wells. Found some great stuff just buying them based on the artwork. Loving the channel. You have a really natural and conversational tone to your videos which I love :)
This was such an interesting video!! I haven't seen this collection spoken about too often on booktube so it was really nice seeing them get their own personal video haha!!
thank you!! yeah i feel like i always see one or two of them around on peoples shelves but theres not many dedicated videos, and my penguin classics one done well so i thought why not!
Conner, I also have a sweet spot for war of the worlds. I think I enjoy the Time Machine more, but I appreciate WotW more...if that makes sense. The George RR Martin title is a gap in my reading, so I might look into that. Thats a great collection you have there. Really love Flowers for Algernon. Left Hand of Darkness is one of my all time favorites. LeGuin is one of my favorite authors I love how in Lathe and Left Hand she approaches, "careful what (and how) you wish for" in similar and also unique ways. Great video. I agree with you about her approach to gender. And while that is often what is most noted about the work, I found the relationship between Genly and Therem to be the most enjoyable.
Since I don't buy physical books anymore, I probably won't pick up this collection. But I am happy to know it exists! Dangerous Visions and Again, Dangerous Visions edited by Harlan Ellision is a great way to get into classic scifi! The Word for World is Forest was first published in one of those anthologies. Philip K Dick is one of those authors where I like the concepts more than the writing, though I appreciate the writing.
im looking forward to getting into dangerous visions, although im so bad at finishing short story collections. i think a lot of scifi i enjoy the concepts more than the actual book itself usually haha
I love these collection videos!! I only own one which is Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which I thought was really good!! The Invisible Man sounds v cool :) I still need to read some Ursula K Le Guin :D
id love to hear your thoughts on le guin! i have such a sad relationship with her books because she went from my favourite author of 2020 to all her books ive read in 2021 being two or three stars
Firstly, NICE COLLECTION! Try these: City by Clifford Simak The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester Rendezvous With Rama - Arthur C. Clarke (virtually all of them by ACC) More Than Human by Theodore Sturgeon Blood Music by Greg Bear
thanks! im such a sucker for matching spines, the spine is almost more important to me than anything else haha. inside font doesnt bother me much either, just a small con!
Nice collection! I've been gathering a few of both the SF & the Fantasy Masterworks to try out, though I haven't read many yet. I recently did read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? also by PKD, which is the book Bladerunner is based on, & did enjoy that one. 🙂
I think the one book you were referring to was Roadside Picnic. I have it, and I have read it. It suffers from the same problem the Metro books have... and that it is difficult to read. I always thought it was due to it being from Russian origin and then being translated. With roadside picnic, I had a hard time following the events taking place. But having watched the movie as well as played the game that was inspired by it, I had an idea and a better understanding of what was happening.
russian literature in general usually seems to be a little confusing! ive read quite a few books by russian authors and they always take some time to wrap your head round
I have a few of these editions and I do really like them! I saw they released a hardcover version of dune in a bookshop recently and D: I wish they would release more of their editions in hardcover as well. I really liked the invisible man book and am still looking forward to seeing the film even though I know it is quite different. I have war of the worlds on my kindle to read in future now. Siblings writing together, what a bond! I need to get to the lathe of heaven already, I own it as well D: The word for world is forest
@@ConnorStompanato Very different from what I normally read, but I did enjoy the War of the Worlds which I read several years ago, so I have some hope that it will appeal to me :)
These do all look rather lovely. I really did not like The Man In The High Castle either. It felt, at best, a load of cool ideas thrown at a wall. The original Claude Rains Invisible Man film from 1933 sticks a lot closer to the original novel. It's a cracking wee, campy, film. Smashing video fella :-)
thank you! it is a little annoying but i also dont know if i would have even noticed if it wasnt for making this video, as its rare i read them back to back haha

the artwork on them is definitely eyecatching. thank you so much!

Such a good collection. I don't usually get on well with Scifi, but some of these premises sound good so maybe I need to pick up SF masterworks
thank you! if i could recommend any for beginners it would definitely be either 'the lathe of heaven' or 'the war of the worlds'
I love the covers of these books. Looks like such a good collection as well, there's a few here I am interested in checking out
the covers are always so colourful, and thank you!

thank you for the recs!
Did you finish left hand? Got more into it?
Old collection of SF masterworks has black glossy covers that are numbered. Yellow covers without numbers are reprints.
I'm hoping to build up my own collection of sf masterworks too! ❤️ Awesome collection!
thank you!! would love to see yours when you have more :)
Great collection of books. I love how the spines match up. The inside font differences wouldn't really bother me.

thank you! im definitely going to have to check that one out at some point, its one of his most popular
I read Flowers for Algernon in middle school in 1998 . I do remember it was a bittersweet ending. Love ❤️ the collection overall.
thank you!

I loved seeing your collection!! I’m definitely interested in some of those hg Wells books 👀 they sound interesting
thank you!! hg wells has the most interesting premises
Awesome collection. I haven't read a lot of those books. Though I don't think I'm fond that the font size isn't uniformed.
Though I am reading Flowers for Algernon now

Trust the Martin book to be different hahaha, those covers are so bright and gorgeous!!!
the bright colourful covers are my favourite thing, so eye catching! 😊
I like some of Le Guin's work a great deal, but I had problems with both Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed.
me too, really wanted to love them but they were tough
@@ConnorStompanato I really like her story "The Birthday of the World."
So cool to see your giant collection!
thank you!! sorry i missed this comment before somehow oops
I've found that some of the books finishes are gloss and some are matte which has disappointed me. Have you found the same by any chance?
i only have one glossy/shiney one and i feel like thats from the old original series? i much prefer the matte covers which is the standard now
This was super interesting! I don’t own any of those editions but I always find myself drawn to them. Maybe someday 😊
theyre so colourful and eyecatching, id love to hear your opinion on some sci-fi books! would be quite different from your normal reads

i think im going to watch a lot of the old universal movies this october, our round two of trick or treadathon is themed on them! thank you :D
such a good collection! I'd be bothered if the inside fonts didn't match up tbh haha
thank you! it is a little annoying but i also dont know if i would have even noticed if it wasnt for making this video, as its rare i read them back to back haha
Omg your collection is incredible!
ahh thank you!!
I struggle with Phillip. K.Dick too... he wrote while he was high on drugs, its like I'd have to be in the same state to get into them.
hahaha i do agree
i always enjoy your vids, i love your accent haha :-)
aww thank you haha, appreciate it
Holy moly, that's impressive!
haha thank u!
‘Hard to be a God’ is book 4 of a series, but if you don’t like their style....
Three Stigmata is great.
Book collections 😍
visually appealing!!
I love this collection so much! I've only got 3 myself, I hope to get more eventually, I really love the yellow!
same! i just live for matching spines haha
@@ConnorStompanato Yes! The absolute worst thing is a cover change mid-way through a series 😡
so many 😭
