I made an account just to experiment and try it out.
As far as the user experience goes, I loved it. Its fast, efficient, and helpful.
But, unless they discontinue requiring an account and collecting telemetry, I'll never actually use it.
It's a shame. It's a great bit of software and I would love to use it, but needing an account and having data collection on a friggin' terminal is a deal breaker.

So this is neat. I just loathe the eventual discussion with a junior: "What did you do?" "I don't know! the AI said..." anyway how does it work with screen or tmux? I imagine the memory requirement can get pretty large if you're dealing with huge I/O blocks. Can you do a large cpp compilation and still navigate that block?
Don't give juniors access to production.

Looks like an awersome cli tool and I like that the cli does Not share my data with AI.
If there is key binding support to switch focus between the splits and panels that would be awesome. I use tmux and plugins to use vim key binding to switch between splits and even within vim's splits. This is my most requested feature so I can use this 100%!!
Are there instructions on how do I use Ollama as the AI backend?
There are some cool innovations here like blocks. It would be nice to have open source alternatives of those

Legend has it that VIM is still the king. And I can pretty much customize vim to do everything you Mr Warp is here is doing. Also always on internet is a no no

Considering warp was built in rust, I'm curious what you used for the TUI. Did you use the ratatui library or something else?
Very good and tempted terminal. But windows and Linux support is a must.
And running tmux is a must as well.
And running inside a vscode or visual studio or raider, or intelliJ ... that would make me fall for it.
I just got an email from Melanie, who mentioned there is a new version for Linux. And vim key bindings. 😅 that s a very good news. I will give it a try.

Edit: no, it's just DCS parsing like you have in kitty. You still have the same 1970s job control model in warp.

This is great. I use on mac in work but the proxy blocks the IA. I would like to use with windows and powershell at my home.
Ok, I will try it. Ai integration looks nice, and I can't remember every single command, so I buy it. But some of the other features seem redundant. Like, saving most used commands… ¿What happened to sell functions, aliases and standalone scripts? Are not cool enough nowadays?

Some really nice features. But the AI limit is very very low. And a team of almost 40 feels worrying - I'm sure there's investment but that's a lot of overhead on something as small as a terminal replacement. (I like to know an app I use will be around still in a year or two.)
If my keystrokes are being read and sent to the cloud, where is the security ?

Pay for a Terminal? I'm all for paying for dev tools where appropriate, but this ain't one of them. What could they possibly provide that warrants a cost that isn't provided by an IDE if you're going to pay for anything...

Doesn't run on Linux and requires Internet. I've been following this project for over a year and they've been promising to take away the always on Internet requirements but they still haven't. This app completely defeats the point of a terminal because of that requirement. When they remove it, I'll give it a go. Until then, hard pass.
Shame it's not open source. I won't use any closed source terminal tools, even Microsoft knows better than to close source its terminal tools these days. I'm not that fussed about the AI features and I wouldn't create an account to use it, but there are some good design choices.
It is not something that can be released under a free license, as someone will immediately fork offline version, stripping it of any purpose.
@@dkavlakov"Stripping it of any purpose" The purpose is to be a useful tool, ideally one without the ability to spy on you. If people find value in a a version with online connectivity, that's fine, and it's also fine to use a version without that connectivity. I do not trust any company that produces closed source terminal tools, and for that reason I won't be using Warp, even though I like some of the features.

@@dkavlakov It has some utility in its current state, but that's overshadowed by something that's a non-negotiable issue for many potential users (lack of control over privacy).

Many cool features. That's the positive. The negative...This is closed source beeing advocated within the open source landscape. Very dangerous to say the least. Nobody knows what is happening with your data. Sending command strokes now directly to the Mothership? Hell no. Sorry but I even need to add this tool to my scanning list, I can't have my clients leaking potential sensitive data into the unknown.

I am morally opposed to making this terminal development space proprietary and behind closed doors only accessible by a few that can profit off it, so I hope that it won't succeed as a product. We can keep things of free nature and out in the open public with good documentation of internal workings and easily adoptable and improvable. If you want to spend your time better and not get locked into some tool that you have no control over, join us in the free world of modern open source terminals like wezterm or alacritty.

With a terminal that needs login to even use it, no it won't. Don't get me wrong, this is a great project and possibly the biggest updates to a terminal emulator in years but I would highly prefer to keep my terminal not log to a random server.
BTW do check for their privacy policy, you will find more candies there. Also its not even about privacy, it is dangerous for the security.

Pros:

- Innovative
- AI assisted
- Collaborative
- Cloud based
- Implemented using browser-based technology for best performance and optimization.
- Prevents terminal abuse by discommunicated individuals
Cons:
- Manual input is still allowed and in some cases - even required. This can become extremely unsafe!
- No gay and transsexual afro-american integration. They really need to find a way to solve this before releasing for Windows to become purely modern!
