Omg I am absolutely convinced plants get lazy when you water and fertilize them at all times...!!! You speak truth. Over years I noticed, the plants I keep guessing when my care is going to come (I neglect and forget them multiple times a year!) do so much better overall!

The waste water from cooking is a great tip, I have something to add: Don't throw away the banana peelings after you eat your banana, instead put it in hot water for 10-15 min, wait for the water to cool and use the water on the plants, its great for the plants.
Also the moisture meter is AMAZING, its super helpful to monitor my watering schedule from my calathea.

I bought a ZZ plant for my darkish foyer based on another YT plant “professional” who said “just water it when you pay the rent”, i.e. once a month. Yikes! I’ve had this plant 1 yr. Obviously I stepped up the watering schedule, but she’s not a happy plant. After finding your channel, I realized my mistake and have moved her to an area with more light. At least I kept her alive, barely. I have high hopes for her success now that I’ve moved her! 😊 I’m so glad I found your channel. Thanks for your knowledgeable advice!

Something about light that I don’t see people mention is that most windows in newer homes (particularly double pane) have UV filters built in which further reduces the amount of light our plants receive. I have lots of happy plants in a west facing window that receive direct light in the American Southwest, and I think that can partly be attributed to the UV filter. Just something to think about!

Ficus can be "convinced" to branch out by notching the stem at specific spots with a sharp and clean blade. There's some videos about it. Hard pruning is successful at causing the ficus to branch, but usually that branching looks wonky and may be concentrated in a single side. Notching prevents that by keeping the main stem

Plants do well with a decrease in temperature during the dark cycle as well.

I subscribed a couple of months ago, and I can't appreciate your channel more. Fantastic job, man. I'm wondering how much time your plants receive light from grow lights. Is it the same period of time every day, or is it managed by the sun? In the summer, the lights are turned on longer than in winter, just as the days are longer in summer than in winter?

Thank you! They get 12 hours a day from 8 til 8. I have timers on them so I can set and forget.

I recognise the growing tip of most plants but I really don't know where to find on a pothos....I've looked but just 🧐🤓 not sure. 😢

I have south, or North facing windows. So it’s either death due to the sun, or death due to not enough.
Good thing is that the south facing window is 3 meters wide and 2.5 meters high.
I have cacti, succulents and Musa on the windowsill. And excellent indirect light.
All me crazy, but I’m experimenting and have Alocasia Zebrina and caladium miss muffet in that windowsill. Let’s see how they hold up🤡
It’s been weeks and haven’t seen any scorching yet. I occasionally close the curtain and sit behind the window to get a “feel” and must say that it isn’t pleasant. I’m left feeling scorched and with a headache.
Zebrina just put out a new leaf, and miss muffet is putting out a new leaf every two days.

well. the dark part of photosynthesis is called like that coz it does not need light to go on, not coz it needs darkness 😅. however, darkness and it's amount sure are necessary and the light cycle regulates intracellular processes.
also, indeed the respiration ( when mitochondrias are using glucose to make energy) happens in most plants at night. because during the day they are too busy with photosynthesis and making glucose. so if a plant is 24/7 under the light - it might get tons of sugar but no way to consume it and thus - starve.

How many grow lights do you use for your indoor plants? I have 30 ,would one suffice if I were to group them up in one place? When I am holidaying?

I’ve got 4. I wouldn’t worry about the light when holidaying unless it’s for many weeks. They’ll be fine

When I had an aquarium, I used the fish water after tank maintenance to water plants. I now use a fish emulsion based fertilizer. Do you have experience or an opinion on those?

turns out my crassula ovata et's fingers (or whatever it's called) will actually start puckering just like wet fingers, except it's when it's getting dry but the moisture meter shows not quite dry. starts looking like green raisin fingers lol. so i water it when it starts doing that. it's still alive but it is an alien i reckon

I am very scared of only watering when the meter shows "dry" and have killed my beginia rex by overwatering because of this. Can you make a video about this type of plant? I love them, but can't seem to make it survive!! I do have a baby I managed to make from her last leaf though and am nervous about killing it again 😭😭

Do you have a treubii moonlight? Mine is always yellowing and I've done less water, more water, natural light, led light and under the grow light... It acts the same everywhere. When I ask ppl I know had one they often say it didn't survive, after battling symptoms like mine. It's been doing this the year I've had it but it would be nice to have a plant that looks like it wants to be alive 🤷🏼‍♀️ I've done the hair pins on it to get it to root more and it does actually root, but even with more roots it is just looking sad.
