I had this music on a 78rpm disc when I was growing up in the 60's .. part of my father's collection ... listened to it every night .. so powerful and beautifully played.🥰
Come on! Menuhin was the most over-rated ever with thin colorless dry violin sound like Black and White tv picture! Jascha Heifetz better violin sound than Menuhin! Leonid Kogan warmer sound than Menuhin! Henrik Szeryng More powerful louder than Menuhin! Itzhak Perlman better technique than Menuhin! Menuhin was only famous!!
Having got a Copy of this Recording Played by Yehudi Menuhin and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Conducted by Wilhelm Furtwangler which was Yehudi Menuhin's Second Recording which was made in 1952 and Published in 1954 on His Master's Voice ALP 1135 Mono only the first one was made 14 year's earlier in 1938 with the Concert Cologne Orchestra Conducted by Georges Enesco on 78rpm and again Recorded by His Master's Voice Record Number's DB-3555 DB-3558 I can truthfully say that both Performances are equally as good as each other along with the later 1958 Published 1959 ASD 334 and the 1971 Published 1972 ASD 2809 as the Music of Mendelssohn suited Yehudi Menuhin and it was Yehudi Menuhin who ran the Campaign to Help Wilhelm Furtwangler back on Stage after the war and being German a lot of Furtwangler's Recordings didn't sell very well because up to his Death on November 30th 1954 a lot of the General Public thought wrongly that being German he was Pro Nazi and it wasn't till after his death that the truth came out that he was against Hitler and the Nazi's and everything that they stood for
Yehudi Menuhin was a rare individual who could hold on to his opinion against the crowd noise echo-chambers, especially when the latter happened to be unfairly hounding an individual unable to defend himself in a given context. So he wasn't just a great humanitarian, but one full of moral courage. Perhaps this is why we hear something in his music heard in few others. It is the sound of truth.
Furtwängler even conducted Mendelssohn during Nazi dictatorship while his works were banned and prohibited, because the Nazis called it "entartete Kunst" because Mendelssohn was jewish. But despite this prohibition Furtwängler conducted it, so it clearly shows us that Furtwängler wasn't interested in politics and this horrible ideology, but in music! Of course he also played concerts for the Nazi elite but he had no choice!
i dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost my password. I love any assistance you can give me
Why would you be surprised? It has exactly those characteristics of large-scale symphonic architecture, romanticism, and depth that Furtwangler was most interested in.
A beautiful performance. Menuhin and Furtwängler produced some wonderful music together.

Brilantní provedení, překvapivě dobrá nahrávka i technicky na tu dobu. Ti dva a Berlínští filharmonici - šťastná kombinace. Zdravím z Česka. A děkuji.
his violin was the best in the world

Meraviglia...!!!

The Best
Lovely. TY
full of mellodies!
A miracle... If you like this work. I'm surprised Furtwängler played it.
Furtwangler conducted the piece, is Menuhin the one who's playing
Why would you be surprised? It has exactly those characteristics of large-scale symphonic architecture, romanticism, and depth that Furtwangler was most interested in.
Why wouldn't he? Furtwängler wasn't antisemitic at all..
Insuperable
