"At number three, it's the New Seekers with 'You Won't Find Another Fool', down to number two it's Slade with 'Merry Christmas Everybody', but this week's number one... it's Mud... it's 'Tiger Feet'. Alright? Not 'alf!"
That would be early 1974 then if Slade’s legendary Christmas classic had gone down and Mud had taken over at number one.
Slade were replaced at the top by New Seekers for one week, then Tiger Feet took over.
I looked for this bloody tune about ten years ago cos I needed it for a university project. Could not find it. Finally, here I am.
Alan Freemans presentational style was way ahead of its time. In the pre pirate era his Sunday 'Pick of the Pops' was the only place on radio where you could hear the chart rundown presented in non BBC style. (Formal & stuffy !) Even in the 1970s he was still ahead of the game with his Saturday afternoon rock programme on Radio One. A true groundbreaker.
R.I.P Steve Wright.
I have listened to His afternoon show on weekend afternoons and danced to this.
I don't know if anyone will get what I mean, but compared to the original, this one is performed in italics!
Yes! The original is all 90 degree angles and joints, this is smoothed and rounded.
Memories of a magical youth, listening in on Saturday afternoons to the brilliant, irrepressible Fluff. You'll always be with me. RIP.
i wish pick of the pops could be a regular 3 hour show
Love this and brings back happy memories off the late great Sir Alan Fluff Freeman doing the countdown on Pick of the pops ...Alright Pop Pickers ...Not Arf . Thank you Alan ❤❤❤
My copy of the 1960's version has 'Property of BBC record library - Do not remove' stamped on it, I got it years ago from a charity shop for 10p.
"Aaagh - Fluff's about to do the rundown and some bastard's stolen the record!"
this reminds me of going to Beano's record store in Croydon in the 1980s, Thems were the days.
Alan "Fluff" Freeman - so good that he kept coming back.
His BBC R2 mixes were a MUST listen - whenever I hear Neil Young I remember "Fluff".
Thanks, old mate for some AMAZING progs with some stunning music - Not 'arf.
🦒
R.I.P Barbera Moore who passed away at the weekend.
The lady who made this version popular.
Aah. Greetings, Pop Pickers. All right? Not 'arf!! God bless you and RIP Fluff.
When listening to this just now i expected it to be faded down and we to get the voice of Gary Davies, Mark Goodier, Steve Wright, Paul Gambaccini, Tony Blackburn, Dale Winton, and last but NOT least, the great Alan FREEMAN! He will never be forgotten as far as I'm concerned.
Made my day, isn't it amazing how music evokes so much beautiful memories!
Thanks for posting this version been looking for it for ages and a pretty clean track too , so much more suitable than the original for the chart rundown and Fluff had it off to an art
Poptastically poptastic ! Good ol Fluff
Get this on iTunes!!! Or help me if I’m being stupid. Been OCD in love with this since the days of Alan Freeman.
Alan Freeman even opened the very first Radio 1 Roadshow with this his theme tune. 23.07.1973 to be exact, the venue the North Fistral Beach, Newquay, Cornwall.
superb version...surprising no version of this song charted...despite loads of airplay
never miss saturdays at 1.00pm avid listener one of my favourite shows on radio 2
I kind of expect to one day be hearing this while relaxing near an indoor fountain in a lounge suit, being served scotch on the rocks while chatting to a retired boxer as two girls with *loads of mascara* and beehive hairdos belly-dance.
I have just seen this record by Brass Incorporated on ebay . the winning bid was £184.00 . I stopped bidding when it went past £40 . 00 !
I admit it. I came from the furry weight gain animation.
That thing is like a car accident that you just cant look away from.
looking forward to listening to steve wright on it from next week ironic that steve interviewed alan freeman on his saturday morning show in 1997 before alan started at 4.00pm on 5th april sat 1997 radio 2
Fantastic! been looking for this for ages
Remember Saturday mornings on Capital in the 80s; Pick Of The Pops Take 2? Those were the days!
And Tony Blackburn does the show really well. Though at first it was like a Harry Einfield show sketch where Smashy had taken over Nicy's show "all-right"
@Jeremy Preece I remember hearing Blackburn admit when he first took over the show, the countdown was the one part he dreaded and he practiced over and over numerous times until eventually he began to grasp it. Fluff made it all flow so effortlessly and anyone taking over his show had a hell of a lot to live up to. I admired Blackburn for having the honesty to admit that though.
@@Bulletguy07 I wish that Blackburn was still doing this show, rather than pushed out to a 6-8am dead slot on Saturday. TB can still interact with the listeners and his shows have that feel good factor. POTP rarely do 1960's and never cover 1950's these days. I like this type of radio to be fun, and I think that the present incumbent is too serious.
I'm sorry
remember this on a Saturday afternoon pick of the pops with Tony Blackburn
"Pick Of The Pops" was started by Alan "Fluff" Freeman- what a programme - Tony Blackburn took over from "Fluff" , but it was never the same!
a rare occasion where a cover version is better than the original.
@@pyrodoll2422 Goldbug's version is good and rather intriguing with the cheesy electronic effects and the screamed out girly vocals. It got slagged off heaps here in Australia when it was released back in 1996.
Awesome! Wish I could get a copy of this, there's little info on Brass Incorporated or Barbara Moore.
Memories!!!!
im having this played at my funeral
we miss you FLUFF. aright? right. STAY BRIGHT.
This song has been covered by the propeller-heads and is called " Crash " (1998). It has a great video and good bossa nova beat to it and watch out for the Scooby Doo slippers. The link is below.

Моё любимое. Мне 70 yeas old.
Btw, the version used in *the video* is this one here ua-cam.com/video/I7-HaRezJgQ/v-deo.htmlsi=DRH-EsaXKBQHIW-Q. While this version is beautiful big band jazz, the one linked is the exact same to *it*
Whenever I see the Crystal Palace transmitter, this tune pops into my head for some reason...
Freakin' FAB!
still used on saturday afternoons pick of the pops with tony blackburn not arf
Top stuff mate, super 45rpm magic mate...
this is me brothers pop channel mate, he forgot password to it.. so been locked out of it for years now
The late great Barry Morgan on drums
It's Ronnie Verrell on drums. He played on the old version too. Barbara Moore mentioned that in an interview.
on the b side was terry wogans breakfast show theme
Kevin Parrott Do you have the B-side? I would love to see it uploaded to UA-cam in its entirety. :)
As well as a faab trip down memory lane, I was (a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away) guilty of thinking that I could play the drums and did actually play a few gigs, anyway, I tried like f£@# to play this, didn't even get close!
From the golden age of Radio. Light Programme Luxembourg Caroline London and Radio one and two in the early years. Alright Not Arf and Stay Bright
Anyone know where I can get a good MP3 copy of this track?
And its next sunday at 5....alright.......stay bright.
You’re either here for your childhood, or from furry fat fetish porn. I personally am here for the latter. It is like a car wreck you can’t not look at
Music’s good though
That beginning bit sort of sounds like Simpsons opening theme to me for some reason.
Rearranged from the Brian Fahey original in 1969 by Barbara Moore.
And recorded at Chappell Studios in Bond Street in April 1970 - both tune done in one day!
Why? My father Brian’s original version- which he wrote one lunchtime - was better Mike Fahey
can not find this version anywhere , where can it be got please ? I have the Brian Fahey Orchestra version released in 1960 on Parlophone label , but cannot get hold of this version on sky blue Pye label , it seems really rare !
This has been included on various compilation CDs, including on one made for Winchester Hospital Radio. Check their website.
Huw Jones If it’s any consolation i’ve got one on ebay at the moment! if you see this within the next week search recordandsleeve Thanks
Where can I obtain a copy of this single please?
