Thank you very much for the video! This video proves that the quartz clock moments can be repaired. By watching this video I had understood that if the motor and electronic circuit board are functioning and the gear wheels are not functioning we can disassemble the gear wheels, clean them and reassemble them so that the clock will function again. So that throwing old dead clocks into garbage or by the side of road or street can be avoided.
You gave me the confidence to take my clock movement apart. And now it's working! Not the greatest of camera work, but who cares? As long as it works for me, that's fine. Thank you very much.
I usually end up dropping one of the gears on the black hole that is the kitchen floor. So many things lost after just falling on bare tiles! :( However, notice that the clock on the left is a smooth motor one with a constant drive to the second hand, AND the two halves of the second hands are either the same length, or weighted at the short end. Many clocks do not have a balanced second hand, so it falls fast down the right side, and then struggles up the left side, making louder ticks as it falls back. When the battery runs down enough, the unbalanced second hand stops half way up the left side and the ticking continues with the hand flicking back and forth. A partial solution is to make a second hand like the repairer is testing his work with, where both ends are the same weight. If you can actually get a balanced hand or add weight to the short end so that the down end and the up end cancel each other out, your clock should run quieter and keep going longer when upright. My problem at the moment, is that my 'silent' movement clock has started making faster burbling noises, and I don't know why yet...
Care should be taken to avoid damage to the teeth of the delicate gears, as the plastic teeth are likely could damage with slight pressure, which may affect its engagement with other contacting teeth
Just buy a silent smooth movement which costs about USD$2 from aliexpress.com, remove hands, take out old movement, put in new movement, install hands all at 12 o'clock position. Size of silent movement is same. The only thing to take note of is the length of the shaft, be sure that it is similar in length.
Most likely it is bad battery contact to circuit board. The part where the metal touches the circuti board often corrodes when Alkaline batteries are used. U can try soldering some small wires from circuit board to metal battery contacts. It is very rewarding to be able to bring a dead movement to life, but like what Mariano says, these days, if u are able to order a new movement, it's much easier to just go buy one. Costs about USD$2 with shipping.
If it ever does die ,ebay and Ali express sell those clock motors for under 2.00 ,but that oil will make it quieter, and it will last londer ,I would use synthic super lube oil with teflon.just a thought it thicker and would hold on to the places you oil

COOL! If that was the “Easy” repair, I’d hate to see the “Hard” repair! Do a cold fusion reactor next!

never use high viscosity or thick oils on watch or clock movements
I would use clock oil personally. Sewing machine oil in a pinch but not ideal
